Chapter 106
Eva’s POV:
A small smirk played on my lips as I stepped into the bleak and lifeless walls of the jail. George sat on the other side of the metal bars, his once smug expression had now changed into frustration and bitterness. His clothes were wrinkled, his hair disheveled.
He no longer looked like the confident man that was on my side. He now looked pathetic.
“Eva,” he sneered at me, his voice laced with contempt. “I didn’t think you would actually
come.”
I leaned forward, “Oh George,” smiling sweetly and letting him believe, for a second, that I might still be on his side. “I thought I should see how you are doing here.”
He glared at me, his gaze was cold and calculative. He looked like a caged animal, one that was cornered and desperate, and he was ready to explode. “You think you can just abandon me here after everything I’ve done for you?”
“Abandon you?” I raised a brow, feigning innocence.”
“George, you’re here because you couldn’t keep your hands to yourself. I am not to blame for that.” My voice dropped an octave, adding a layer of coldness. “Why would I want to associate myself with a criminal?” I asked, smiling cheekily.
“Don’t you dare try to wash your hands off this, Eva. You dragged me into this! I was your partner, remember? And now that I need your help, you’re going to act as if I mean nothing?” His eyes narrowed at me, fury flashing in them.
I shrugged, tilting my head to the side. “I never dragged you into anything. You decided to play this game, George. And just like any game, there are winners and losers. You, unfortunately, have lost.” I chuckled.
“This isn’t over, Eva. I’ll make sure you go down with me. You are just as guilty as I am, and I’ll prove it. You think I don’t know what you are doing? I’ll make sure they see you for the bitch you really are.” He wrapped his hand tightly around the bars, his knuckles turned white as his anger became even more evident.
An amused laugh escaped me. I straightened, brushing an imaginary piece of dust off my sleeve as I met his furious gaze. *George, the only thing you can prove now is your own desperation.” I laughed even more.
“You’re nothing, George. Do you think Damien or Lenora would even believe anything you say?” I asked him and the fury in his eyes grew darker, but there was nothing he could do. He was helpless, caged, and at my mercy.
The power I held over him was so huge, and that’s just a reminder of just how untouchable I really was.
Turning on my heel, I gave him a final look over my shoulder. “Enjoy your time here, George. And do try to stay out of trouble.” I walked away, letting my heels click against the cold floor, each step was a blatant declaration of his irrelevance.
As I exited the building, I felt a sense of satisfaction spreading through me. George was exactly where he belonged. Out of my way and powerless to interfere. I didn’t need someone who knew some of my secrets hovering around me. And now, with him taken care of, I could turn my attention to the next phase of my plan.
The air was fresh as I stepped outside, the chaos I had watered was blossoming beautifully around me. The crack I had created in Damien and Irene’s relationship was getting larger by the hour, and it thrilled me.
But I also needed to make sure Damien was guided to make the “right” decisions. Decisions that would ensure Irene’s departure from our lives.
I didn’t waste any more time and headed to his office, knowing he would be there alone, probably lost in his own thoughts.
When I arrived, I knocked lightly and waited for him to let me come in. It was a pleasure to feel the tension radiating from him as he opened the door, looking exhausted and, just as I had hoped, miserable and vulnerable.

“Eva, what are you doing here?” He said quietly, looking wary.

“I just wanted to check on you I know that things have been hard. For all of us.” I offered him an empathetic smile, letting my voice soften as I closed the door behind me.
He sighed, running a hand through his hair as he sat back down. “Hard isn’t a word that covers it, Eva.” He rubbed his temples. “I feel like I’m failing everyone. Lenora is suffering, and Irene… I just don’t know what to do anymore.” He admitted.
I stepped closer, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder, making sure to keep my expression one of sincere concern. “Damien, you’re carrying a burden no one should have to bear. But it’s clear to anyone who cares about you that Irene….well, she’s not making this any easier. Lenora’s mental state is fragile, and every day she sees Irene here, the tension just escalates.” I began.
Planting the seed of doubt.
He sighed heavily, looking down at his desk, as though he couldn’t bear to meet my gaze. “Irene is my wife, Eva. I can’t just ask her to leave. And the same goes for Lenora, she is my sister.”
“I know, Damien. But sometimes love is all about making hard decisions. Lenora is your sister. Family, And her suffering is real.” I let my words sink in, watching as his brow furrowed, the internal conflict written plainly on his face.
“I just don’t know what to believe anymore,” he murmured, his voice filled with exhaustion. “Everything is falling apart. I love Irene, but Lenora…”
“Lenora needs you,” I interjected softly, taking advantage of his hesitation. “She’s lost, Damien. She’s hurting, and she needs her brother’s support. But every time she sees Irene, it’s like she s reminded of everything that’s gone wrong.” I told him, and even if I was only trying to take advantage of the situation, that was also the truth.
“You really think Irene being here is hurting Lenora that much?” He looked up at me, his eyes
conflicted.
I nodded slowly, choosing my next words carefully. “Yes. It’s weighing on her heavily, Damien. I’ve tried speaking to her and comforting her, but Irene’s presence only makes things worse. She can’t heal if she’s constantly reminded of her pain.”
Damien sat back, his face was a mix of emotions. “I don’t want to abandon Irene, but I also can’t let Lenora keep suffering. She’s my sister, Eva. I can’t ignore that.” He said to me and I quickly agreed.
“Of course not,” my voice came out soft but persuasive.
“But maybe Irene just needs some time away. A chance to reflect, to understand what her presence is doing to the family. Perhaps, if she sees how much her being here is affecting Lenora, she’ll understand.” I smoothly suggested.
“I don’t know how I can ask her to do that. It feels wrong.” He shook his head, a pained look crossing his face.
“It’s not wrong if it’s for the right reasons,” I pressed, my tone laced with understanding. “Lenora’s mental health is in your hands, Damien. As her brother, you owe

I leaned in, my voice a whisper as I delivered the final blow. “Then maybe you should consider asking Irene to leave, just for a while. Give Lenora the space she needs to heal. And perhaps…” I paused for a bit, “- perhaps that will be the solution we’re all searching for.”
Damien closed his eyes, his hand running over his face as he absorbed my words. He looked so tired, so ready to surrender. I knew he was wavering, that my suggestion was pushing him toward a decision he never thought he’d have to make. And it was deliciously satisfying.
For a brief moment, I almost felt a pang of guilt. But I brushed it aside, knowing that this was necessary. This was all part of the game, and I was winning.
Damien was silent, staring down at his desk. He didn’t speak, didn’t move, lost in the turmoil I had carefully stirred within
him.
I stood straight, smoothing my dress as I prepared to leave, leaving him alone with his thoughts. I had succeeded. I could see that he was already crumbling under the weight of them.
“Just think about it, Damien,” I said softly, offering him a final, sympathetic smile. “Sometimes, love means letting go.”
And with that, I turned, walking out of his office with a triumphant smile playing on my lips. I had planted the poison, and now I just had to wait for it to take effect.
Sweet. I internally cheered.
