Chapter 11
“No, Delores knows I came here. She’ll come get us soon.” I said to him as I continued banging the metallic door. I can’t be stuck here with Damien. I wonder what Eva wants to achieve by locking me in here.
“I doubt anyone will hear us because the door is titanium and soundproof, Damien said from behind me, chuckling as if all this was fun and game to him. I turn around, shooting him glares because this is actually not a funny situation.
“Damien, you realize that this isn’t something to be laughing about?” I questioned him because I couldn’t understand his reason for laughing as if, if we don’t get rescued on time, we wouldn’t freeze to death.
“I’m not laughing.” He said, but chuckled again.
“You know if no one comes on time, we could freeze to death, I said, reminding him of the obvious fact because he seems to have forgotten.
“Well. I’m here to keep you warm if that happens. But it won’t, we have phones we could use to call. So save your energy and stop acting all cute by banging that door.” He said to me, and I suddenly realized that I hadn’t thought of that option before.
“Still, you could have just pointed that out instead of making me feel like a fool,” I told him, but removed my gaze from him.
Checking my pocket, I realized that my phone was not with me, I had kept it in my bag earlier before I started the dishes.
‘Damn it, I didn’t bring my phone with me,” I said out loud.
“Mine is here. I will call my assistant now and he’ll open it for us. Also, why would Eva want to lock you in here?” Damien asked me while operating his phone.
“Just focus on getting us out of here. Leave Eva to me.” I replied, feeling the cold seeping into my system. I blew hot air from my mouth to my open palm and rubbed it on my arms, hugging myself.
“There’s no service.” Damien groaned, and now it was time to laugh.
Oh,
so now you understand the consequences of being stuck.” commented, laughing even though I knew the situation had only gotten worse.
“No, really I can’t reach my assistant. There’s no bar. I can’t even browse.” He said, looking frustrated.
“Then, we should keep banging hard on that door. That’s the only option we have now.” I said to him and went back to hitting the door.
“Someone help! There are people inside here!” I shouted. “We’re locked up in the Cold room!” I yelled
“Let me do that. You’ll hurt your hands. You need them for tomorrow’s catering.” He said, and he started banging the door hard.
“And you’ll need yours too for getting married tomorrow. I’ll do it. I argued, nudging him away from the door. But our stubbornness made us both bang the door together without stopping.
We did that for at least ten minutes before tiring out and breathing heavily.
“Irene, you’re looking pale. You must be cold.” Damien said, noticing how I was shivering and my teeth were clattering against each other. He began pulling off his jacket.
“You also have smoke coming out from your mouth” I pointed out, still shivering-
“Wear this. You are more fragile than me.” He said, trying to put the jacket on me. But I pushed him away, angry at his

“What do you mean? Are you saying I’m fragile?” I quizzed him,
“I didn’t mean to belinle you. I just mean that as a woman, your body is more prone to cold than mine. Please, wear the jacket. We need to survive this until someone comes. He pressed, not giving up.
I allowed him to put it on me. Accepting the real fact that I needed it. And it seems to be getting colder. I hope Delores
comes to rescue me.
“We should save our energy. Let’s sit in that comer.” Damien pointed to an empty space.
“But everywhere is cold. It won’t make a difference if we sit or stand. Our butts could even freeze.” I replied, shaking my head at the idea.
Damien kept quiet, a look of contemplation or deliberation taking over his features. I hugged myself tighter and started bouncing lightly on my feet.

Some minutes of silence-passed except for the sound of the freezer working in the cold room. Fear was settling deep into my soul, and I started off with crazy thoughts that I definitely shouldn’t entertain.
My son. My business. My life. Everything coming to an end just because my step-sister hates me to the deepest part of her soul
“Irene, Damien called me, pulling me out of my thoughts. His voice was shaky, and when I looked at him, I saw he had started to shake.
I must have been so lost in my thoughts to have noticed him.
“D**n, you are shaking really hard.” I rushed to him, grabbing his hands into mine and blowing hot air from my mouth to
them.
“Why didn’t you say anything
I asked, fretting
“F****k, what are we going to do?” My voice came out hoarse. The cold was beginning to affect me and him.
“Irene,” Damien called again, his hands cupping my cheeks making me focus on him.
“What’s that?”
“Can I hug you?” He softly asked.
“Hug?” I questioned him, the word suddenly sounding strange to me but at the same time, it sounded good to the ears.
“Yes, Irene. We need to share our body warmth. It’s getting colder.” He explained and I looked at his face to check if he really was saying that because of our situation, or because of what we had discussed a week ago.
“Irene, we need this. Otherwise, we might pass out soon.” He explained in a weak voice that went straight into me and touched me in a way.
Was it empathy? Was it survival? Was it the old flames? I couldn’t tell.
But all I knew and was sure of was that I needed his warmth, so without responding, I wrapped my arms around him and rested my head on his chest.
“Yes, you
can hug me, Damien.” I said to him, and hoped rescue comes
