Chapter 121
He was deal
The man who had single–handedly taken care of me see I worn was dead.
I walked towards his grave, my chore cinking into the graves 1 dwched a rose. He took a part of me with him, dar’s the only logical explanation for the void ich in me
The white rose I was holding fell on his grave stone as I let it go
Sobs racked through my body. Each tear was a tribute to the man who’d been my universe.
test
I wished that I did more, maybe if he had the heart surgery earlier he would have survived.
The doctor did say that age wasn’t on his side, but still…
“I never said goodbye,” I rasped, whispering against the wind. “I promise you I’ll visit as much avt can, dad” Empty words, but words were all I had.
A promise r’couldn’t keep, whispered to a man who couldn’t hear
Finally, my tears ran dry. My knees shook, the weight of his absence an ache in my bones.
I stood, legs jelly, the cemetery a blur of gray tombstones. Each step towards the car felt like wading through mud, my body heavy with exhaustion and a new, raw loneliness.
Home felt like a punch to the gut. Each familiar corner screamed his absence. My feet, on autopilot, led me towards his study.
Then, a sound. A murmur caught my attention as I neared the entrance to find the door to the study ajar.
My breath hitched as I took in the sight in front of me,
Chucks, my husband, his and Bianca, his secretary.
“Hey…” The blonde haired woman pulled away from the kiss, “You are going to tell her today, right?”
“Of course,” Chuck’s husky voice almost made my knees buckle
Her hand, delicate and pale, rested on his arm, her other inching towards his face. “That’s what you said last week, give her the divorce papers and let that old hag stick her-”
“Old hag?” I choked, and their heads snapped in my direction.
“Daphne…” Chucks breathed.
I walked into the study, each step a stab in the chest.
“You chose today, today of all days?” My throat ran dry as my stomach churned. “My father isn’t even cold in the ground…“I paused, tears stinging my eyes.
“And you’re here; making out with your secretary in his office?!” I snapped.
“Don’t act like you’re surprised. Besides, aren’t you tired of this?”
“Tired?” My shoulders slacked.

Chapter 121
I had almost forgotten that this marriage was a chore for him.
“I am tired.” A sob threatened to tear through my throat. “I have always been tired, tired of your lies and your infidelity, but this is the limit…”
The scent of pipe tobacco, Dad’s signature aroma, hung in the air
It was no secret that Chuck preferred his secretary over me; in fact, everyone knew. Our marriage was just one of convenience; we’d been childhood friends, so it just made sense But I never felt loved by Chuck.
My father had just passed, and he wouldn’t even have enough decency to wait.
I stepped forward, my voice shaking as I asked, “Where did I go wrong, Chuck?”
“I have been a good wife, a good friend and i even… I put up with this…” I gestured to his half baked secretary.
“Don’t talk to her like that-”
“Oh?” I let out a low laugh. “It’s okay for her to call me an old hag but i can’t call her a slut?!”
“Hey, you witch!” The blondie lunged at me but I slapped her across the face.
“I have had en-‘
“Even I have had enough!” Chucks boomed and I flinched as a stack of papers hit my face.
eyed the document, hands trembling as i picked it up and asked, “What is this?”
Chuck, still unfazed, responded, “You should read it.”
As I skimmed through the pages, my eyes widened.
Divorce papers. Chucks was actually doing it, He was divorcing me.
“W–what is this?” I croaked.
“A divorce. You said it yourself, we are both tired of pretending like this marriage was actually going somewhere,” He breathed.
“Three years, Daphne, isn’t that enough to realize that we will never be compatible in any lifetime? why don’t you just let me go?”
My chest tightened, heart shattering into a million pieces.
As much as it hurt me, he was right. I didn’t need to cling to a loveless marriage anymore.
“You’re heartless, Chuck,” I whispered, my voice quivering. He merely smirked, the lack of remorse evident in his eyes.
After I signed, I turned to face him.
He had the audacity to ask, “So, when will you be leaving?” My eyes instinctively caught his hands as they were wrapped around Bianca’s waist.
“I’ll leave tomorrow since you’re so excited to kick me out,” I retorted and exited the room before could kick me out from
there too.
Entering my room, I closed the door behind me, the reality sinking in.
I couldn’t hold back the tears any longer.
Chapter 121
Pressing my back against the door, I slid down to the floor, the weight of the situation crushing me.

With tears streaming down my face, I began packing my belongings, each item a painful reminder of the life that was falling
apart.
In one day, I managed to become an orphan and a divorcee.
The next morning, I woke you feeling a bit nauseous. My bags were packed and I was ready to leave.
As I dragged my luggage out of my room, I heard giggling from the other bedroom.
I headed towards the source of the sound and saw Bianca in one of my old night gowns, drawing circles on Chuck’s bare
chest.
He raised his head and our eyes met. “What are you standing there for?” he asked with raised brows. Bianca snickered.
“Don’t mind her baby,” she said, kissing him.
I swallowed, fighting the tears that where gathering. “I- I just wanted to say I’m leaving,” I stuttered
“Okay, bye.”
I nodded, accepting my ill fate as I wiped the tears that spilled from my eyes. I wouldn’t break down in front of him, in front of them
As Lugged on my bags, the sound of their laughter faded. I stepped outside and hailed a taxi.
I settled in the back seat, “airport please,” I told the driver. I picked up my phone and called Veronica, my friend.
She’d accompanied me to the clinic a few weeks ago for a test, it sickened me that I was even trying to bear Chuck’s child.
“Hi Veronica, I’m on my way to the airport, can we meet there?” I asked.
The other line screeched with noise for a bit. “Yes, of course, I’m on my way and I have the test result!”
I rolled my eyes.
When we arrived at the airport parking lot, the driver helped me offload my bags, I paid him and then started to make my way towards the entrance, ready to leave Miami, for good.
“Daphne!” her familiar voice called. A small smile formed on my lips as I turned and she pulled me into a hug.
“So this is it huh?” she asked.
“Yeah, I guess so, you arrived just in time, I thought I’d have to wait.”
“Oh! Before I forget she pulled out a file from her bag “– here she shoved it towards me.
–
“What does it say?” I asked.
“I don’t know! It’s the result from the test you did last week…”
I sighed and opened it, sharing a look with her before reading the words.
I glanced over the document, dread coursing through me.
I shot my head up, my eyes widening.
“I- I’m pregnant.”
