Chapter 16
Irene’s POV:
“Will you marry me again?”
As those words fell off Damien’s lips with a serious expression eithed on his features, I couldn’t help but question my sanity.
Was I dreaming or hallucinating!
Was this a joke or a prank?
It has to be one of those options. It couldn’t be happening for real that Damien would ask me such a question.
So I did the only thing my rational self could do- laugh.
My laughter sounded shrill and deep from my guts.
“Irene, I’m being serious. That’s the only solution. So will you marry me?” Damien said to me, trying to grab my hands again.
“Don’t f***ng touch me!” I yelled, getting up and moving away from him.
Who do
you
take me for?”
What do you take for me, huh?” I shouted at him, astounded by such a proposal.
“This is not to insult you, Irene. This is to save you and me. Especially you. You need to stop thinking that I want to hurt you at every chance I get.” Damien got on his feet and challenged me back.
“Oh, yeah?” I chuckled, ‘I need to stop thinking that you want to hurt me. You really think that is possible for me?” I laughed
even more.
This has to be the biggest joke of the year.
Marry my ex-husband who is getting if I meant nothing?
married tomorrow? The man who chose my step-sister over me and kicked me out as
That same man is who I should marry just to save my face and my business?
Oh no f**ing way!
“It is. If there’s anything these past days have shown you it’s that I’m no longer the man I used to be. You can trust me to do right by you and protect you. Please, let me protect you.” He said, pleading at the end of his speech.
“Like I said, I’m grateful to you for saving my son. But that doesn’t erase the fact that you are the kind of man to hurt me without remorse.” I countered, feeling so tensed from this whole situation.
“I regret it, okay?” He said, moving closer to me. “I regret everything I did. And my words alone can’t show you that I do. But if you also don’t give me the chance to prove my remorse and regret, then how will you really know how I feel and the kind of man I am now.” He said softly, his eyes full of emotions I don’t even want to understand.
I don’t want to believe them. I don’t want to believe a man like him
Once bitten, twice shy. I can’t be fooled for the second time.
I barely recovered from the first heartbreak. If not for Charlie being my reason to keep going.

Chapter 16
“My answer is no, Damien I refuse to marry you. Marry Eva. She’s the love of your life. I will sort out my issues myself.” turned away from him, going to sit on the edge of the bed.
“Irene, please be reasonable. Damien said from where he was standing, facing me, “You need to set aside our differences and focus on the damages at hand.” He spoke as if I didn’t understand
“Damien, please leave my room. My answer remains no. I need to rest, I’m beginning to have migraines because of this conversation.” I lay on the bed, my back facing him.
“Irene…” He called.
“Damien, leave.” I deadpanned in a growly tone.
“Just consider what I said. I’ll leave you to think about it and you will see that it’s the best solution to this problem.” He said and finally left.
Once I heard the door shut, I shot up on my feet and dashed out of the hotel without looking back. I ensured my face was covered with my hair.
I couldn’t risk those lurking reporters to catch a glimpse of me.
But I needed to get out of this place. Once I stepped out of the hotel reception, I hailed a cab and boarded it to my rented apartment.
I knew Delores and Charlie would be there, waiting for me.
Various thoughts filled my head as the city flew by my eyes. I began to consider abandoning this job and fleeing the country with Charlie.
I could do well to run away from my problems instead of staying behind to face this battle.
Things keep escalating. Why did fate have to be so brutal to me? Why did it have to make Damien and Eva have to be the next client that was supposed to save my dying business?
Why did things even go wrong in the first place at my last catering service in Los Angeles?
The police couldn’t find the source of the poison. I was just thankful no one died. But it ruined my reputation which I’ve been working hard to build for years.
Life was unfair. Fate was cruel. As if all of that wasn’t enough, now I have to be tortured with the idea of being Damien’s
mistress.
The wedding ruiner, or sort.
It freaking sucks and I feel like crying from just how badly things have been working in my favor.
“We’re here.” The cab driver announced, snapping me out of my depressing thoughts. I realized my cheeks were stained with. tears, so I quickly wiped them off as I stepped out of the cab.
“Please, hold on. Let me grab my purse quickly.” The driver nodded. And in a swift manner, I told Delores to pass my credit
card.
Once I sorted out the cab fare, I went back inside. Charlie was already sleeping, after I gave him a forehead kiss, I went back to the living room.
“Irene, how are you? It’s crazy everywhere: Delores with her Spanish accent, asked.
Her familiar voice soothed me a little after a day that was full of unfamiliar voices of those damn paparazzi.

Chapter 16
It was certain that Eva wasn’the person who informed the reporters because she didn’t know Damien was there. If she knew, she wouldn’t have locked us together.
“I don’t know, Delores,” I replied, feeling like the weight of the world was on my shoulders. My head was pounding and my mind was heavy.
“I heard some directions from Steven, Damien Chad’s personal assistant. Is it true what he said?” She asked. “What did he say to you?” I asked. But before she could respond, my phone rang, interrupting our conversation.
I saw it was the owner of the daycare Charlie was attending here in Miami.
Picking up the call, I said, “Hello,”
ΠΕ
“Miss Boden, good evening.” She said and returned the greeting
“I just wanted to let you know about an urgent situation that just came up.” She said and I told her I was all ears.
“The parents of our other kids are complaining that Charlie must withdraw. They said they can’t allow their children to attend the same daycare as your son due to the recent scandal. Im sorry about the way it sounds.” She explained apologetically.
I couldn’t believe the words I was hearing. How can people be so quick to judge and believe what the media is saying? “Can you give me some time? I will call you back.” I told the woman and hung up before she could say anything.
was furious. And I felt a tad bit stupid for not remembering the fact that my son was in the picture, and whatever affects me will surely affect him.
My phone rang again, and this time it was the school principal of the kindergarten Charlie was attending in Los Angeles. When I answered the call, she also said a similar thing to what the other woman had just said.
Literally meant my son couldn’t school anywhere unless the air was cleared.
And, it is either I let people believe I
Chad’s legal wife and allow him to “as a crazy ex, who was after destroying Damien and Eva’s love. Or I become Damien’s
sort everything out in his own way,
“Fuck!” I cussed out loud when I realized the obvious option I would have to choose.
A lot was on the line. And that choice was my only saving grace.
“Just fuck!” I cussed again.
Delores was already beside me, understanding my dilemma while patting my back, so I could know I wasn’t alone in this.
“Can you call Damien’s personal assistant? Tell him I need to speak with Damien urgently.” I said to Delores, as I was slowly coming to terms with my fate.
“Sure, Irene. Just try and breathe, honey.” She said in a comforting tone..
I nodded to her words and was happy to have her by my side.
“Damien, I accept your proposal,” I simply said the moment Delores passed the phone to me.
I was not happy with this situation. It felt like a bondage. It felt as if life was just forcing me and Damien together. And it was all unfair to me.
“Really?” I could hear the excitement in his voice. He was happy about this. It’s obvious.
