Chapter 17
Irene’s POV:
Adrenaline. I’ve always been curious about it. The rush, the feels and the thrills. That spontaneous way of making a decision without thinking it through, I’ve always wanted to experience it, but making irrational decisions.
And at this moment, as I agreed to marry my ex, just for my sons sake, I wonder if it was a particular rush of hormones I’ve been running on since I got locked up with Damien in the Cold roomTI.
“Leave Eva to me, I’ve already handled her. And she will be learning a lesson through this by messing with you.” Damien’s voice snapped me back, and it was then I remembered I was still on a call with him.
I had asked him what would happen to Eva. And that was his response, except I didn’t quite understand him.
I don’t want any more drama or trouble. I just
ust want to fix this whole mess.
“What do you mean she is going to learn a lesson through this? asked him, curious.
“Don’t bother yourself about it, Irene. Let’s focus on how to get you a fitted wedding dress tonight,” he said, shifting my mind away from Eva to my second wedding with him
“How will we get a dress this late?” I questioned, wondering in my little head how that would be possible.
“I will take care of it. Just return to the room I got for you at the hotel. Don’t forget to disguise yourself so those reporters won’t know it’s you. I’ve already assigned people to help Delores with the catering. And one of my trusted secretaries will also help with taking care of Charlie while Delores keeps a close watch on them,” Damien explained, and I can see he has everything well thought out.
“Charlie goes to Daycare until evening, so you don’t need to worry about him, I informed him, smiling at the fact that those parents would be shut up and put in their place for being so inconsiderate.
“Oh okay, that’s nice. And has everything been fine with him since the hospital visit? He asked. “I miss him,” he added and those three words pulled a string in my heart.
‘Damien, what are you doing to me?’ I internally questioned myself.
“Charlie has been stable. The meds are working. And the carers at the daycare know about his situation and the insulin shots. So everything is covered,” I replied to him not wanting to talk about the part of him missing my son- his son.
“That’s good to hear,” he said, but I could sense he still had something to say, so I kept quiet and allowed him to speak. “Irene, there’s so much I want to tell you, but I’m sure once you get back to the hotel, we’ll be too busy or too tired to talk. So, I’d just like to say a few things before we hang up,” he said and I hummed for him to keep talking.
I do not want to be moved by Damien’s words. I do not want to like that we are remarrying. I do not want to like the fact that he will be a part of my life again.
Yet, I fear my unstable emotions will cause my heart to sway in the wrong direction. The direction that leads to Damien Chad.
“You might not believe this, Irene, but I love you. And I’ve always loved you. I know it’s coming late and all, but I also wanted you to know that I am really happy to be marrying you again,” he began, and I didn’t know what to feel about this
confession.
I realized too late that my heart belongs to you. I was just hanging on to old feelings that no longer dwelled in me. But now I know for sure that it is you I love. His voice was confident as he proclaimed his feelings for me.

Chapter 17
“Okay, Was all I said, not wanting to give a damn.
“But we are marrying for the sake of saving our a**s, nothing else.” I stated, just so we can both be on the same page.
“Yes, Irene, I know. But, I just want you to know what I feel and low I’m going to be treating you in this marriage, not as someone I married to save my company, but as someone I love he countered, but in a soft tone that almost made me feel
Warn
“Okay,” I said, nonchalantly.
“And Charlie will be treated like a son. We’re already buddies, so you can rest assured that all you will get in this marriage is peace. It won’t be like before. I promise you, He declared.
“Thank you for the words of assurance. But so far, I’ve learned that life is unpredictable. So let’s just do our best to be civil. Okay?” I said to him, waiting for his reply.
“Okay, Irene. I’ll see you in a bit. He replied.
“See you soon,” I said and we hung up.
“I’m supporting you all the way, Irene. I know this isn’t easy for you, but you are a very strong woman, Delores said, and we hugged each other briefly.
She helped me pack my essentials and I gave Charlie another peck on the forehead before leaving.
“I’ll take good care of him. Don’t worry.” Delores said before I could say what was already dancing on the tip of my tongue. Thank you. You are saving me more than you know. I appreciate you, darling,” I said to her and hugged her dearly.
“We’re the only friends we both have, so this is nothing.” She said with a huge smile.
“I don’t know what I would have done without you. You are such a blessing.” I smiled back at her
Delores escorted me outside and waved me off in the cab. I headed back to the hotel, preparing my mind for marrying my ex-husband, the man I used to love and silently still love. Damien Chad
What does tomorrow hold for me?
