Chapter 3
Damien followed suit in the next elevator and met us hurriedly it the hotel lobby.
“Wait, I heard his cold voice command which stopped me in my tracks as I turned to face hirm.
“He’s your son?” Damien raised a brow at me, glancing between Charlie and me.
“Yes, he is my son.” I gritted my teeth and pulled Charlie from him.
Damien snorted
“I should’ve known. Only a careless woman like you would leave her child out in the lobby while she went to do who knows what.”
I clenched my fist at his words but ignored him, my eyes still focused on my son.
I wouldn’t let Damien Chad get to me,
It’s all my fault
Everything was my fault. My little boy was suffering so much because of me.
“Im sorry” I whispered. “It’s all my fault, Mommy is sorry.”
Charlie’s seizures were getting worse because I couldn’t afford his medical bills.
What would’ve happened if the insulin hadn’t been given to him on time!
“Who is the child’s father, huh?” Damien’s cold voice dragged me back to reality, his emerald green orbs dug holes in my
skin.
“None of your business.” I spat and made to leave but his grip on my hand stopped me.
“You don’t walk out on me when I’m talking.”
“And you don’t put your filthy hands on me either!” I snapped, yanking away from his grip.
“I am not the weak woman you abandoned years ago, Damien Chad.” I seethed. “Make the mistake of touching me again and I promise you’ll regret it.”
My little outburst made his jaw drop but he was quick to mask it. His green orbs traveled to Charlie before settling on me.
“You’re yet to answer my question, Irene. Who is the father of the child?”
I snorted.
“I’ve been with so many men after you that I can’t even remember who my
son’s father is
A low growl slipped out Damien’s throat and his eyes turned shades darker. “You-”
Damien froze and our gaze dropped to see Charlie clinging to him.
I hadn’t even realized when he slipped away from me and clung to Damien, his green eyes staring up at the sturdy man in adoration.
“My hero.” Charlie giggled, hugging the taller man. For the first time, I watched Damien’s expression soften.

Chapter 3
A soft smile tugged on his lips, and be reached out to hold Charlie but I was faster.
“Don’t touch him!” I spat, s****g my son away.
“Charlie, I’ve warned you not to talk to strangers. Don’t go to anyone without my permission” I rebuked the small boy and pulled him closer to me.
Something flashed across Damien’s face and he opened his mouth to talk
but I beat him to it.
“Stay away from me and my son. Damien Chad, I’m warning you.” I hissed, my voice dripping with venom.
“Irene!” I turned to lock eyes with Delores who was marching over.
“Everything is ready.” She informed me when she reached me, lacking a strand of her hair behind her ear. “We have to leave for the venue now.
I nodded and threw one last glare at a star-struck Damien before storming away.
Damien Chad was bad news.
Was meeting him some sort of bad omen?
I hoped not. I hope I never have to set eyes on that man again.
I took deep breaths and got into the car waiting outside along with my son and Delores.
The deal would go well and as soon as I got paid, I’ll be on my way to Los Angeles and out of this d****ed city.
After what felt like forever, the car finally pulled up in front of the wedding venue- a grand resort with pristine beaches as far as the eye could see.
We walked past several pools and gardens teeming with beautiful flowers before slipping into the grand lobby.
“Irene?” My personal assistant called behind me..
“Yes, Delores?” I answered, searching my bag to make sure Charlie’s insulin was there for the hundredth time since we left the hotel, and sighed in relief when I saw it.
I couldn’t afford a repeat of what happened earlier.
“The couple we’ll be catering for requested to see you earlier, I forgot to mention it to you.” Her Spanish accent broke through.
“What?” My eyes widened. “How can you forget something so important?”
“I’m sorry.” The brunette tucked a strand of her hair behind her ears. “I was caught up with work and I-”
“It’s okay.” I loosened my long hair from its bun and allowed it to cascade down my back. “I’ll go meet them now. Where are they?
“Fourth floor, left wing.” The petite woman replied, squinting her eyes at her tablet. “Royal Suite 101”
“Got it, please keep an eye on Charlie. His insulin is in the bag in case anything happens. I’ll be back real quick.”
Delores nodded, pulling Charlie and the bag from me before I hurried away
I took the elevator to the fourth floor and navigated my way to the left wing. It didn’t take time for me to locate the suite as it was the only one there.
Chapter 3
Come on, Irene, you can do this. I took deep breaths and smoothened my hair one more time before putting on my best smile and stepping in
1 foer, heart twisting in my chest and throat dry as I took in the scene in front of me.
Of all the people, of all the **m of the earth and the worst of the worst
Him? Him?!
Damien
He was not alone, he had company.
A beautiful blonde woman was in his arms, dressed in the most pristine wedding dress I had ever seen, their lips locked i passionate kiss
The movie in front of me, as that was all I
could describe it as, came crashing into me like a stack of bricks.
Of course fate would play such a sour trick on me. Of course, I would end up catering for my ex-husband and his slut of a bride, my step sister.
Damn it.
