Chapter 33
Irene’s POV:
Damien stared at me with softness in his eyes but beneath that soft glimmer was a glint of determination that I couldn’t understand why it was there at all.
I looked at him and waited for him to merge his lips with mine in perfect harmony for the camera to capture it.
He cupped one side of my face with his large hand and continued looking at me, causing my anticipation to rise more and more. Each swell of my chest was with a deep need for his touch and his lips. I didn’t care if it was a public display of affection.
Or the fact that cameras were directed to our faces with zooming lenses that could very much capture everything that Damien does to me.
“Sorry, my wife seems to be shy today.” He glanced at the camera and said to them.
Shy? Do I look shy?
He gazed back at me, noticing the surprised expression on my face. But he ignored me and instead pulled along into the airport. He looked like a man on a mission whereas I was swelling with annoyance, because why would he lie on my behalf?
Who told him I didn’t want to kiss him? Or that I was shy?
We’ll be boarding our private jet soon.” He told me as the airport staff escorted us to a lounge so we could sit down before our flight was ready.
Everything else happening around me suddenly felt meaningless and blurred out when all I could focus on was Damien, the man who was turning my entire universe upside down.
Why did he have to change now and be a gentleman when I wanted him badly? With him, it always felt like a spell was cast upon me, controlling my emotions and hormones to be all about him.
So as we sat down in the lounge, it was just us. I sat opposite him and shamelessly stared at him. But Damien was not even sparing me any glance, he was so damn focused on the magazine in his hands. He looked like he was so invested in whatever the magazine was all about.
The only question was, was this a game to tease me too much? Or was he really just being respectful?
I couldn’t help but wonder.
“You keep staring at me? Is there something on my face that I don’t know about?” His deep voice which seemed close yet distant jerked me out of my thoughts.
“Huh?” Was the only thing I could quickly utter.
“Why have you been looking at me?” He asked again, setting aside his magazine and giving me the full attention I’d been seeking all morning.
“I wasn’t looking at you.” I lied smoothly, feigning nonchalance.
“You sure about that?” He asked, lifting one of his eyebrows up.
“Yes. You probably just thought I was. But there’s a painting above your head that I was looking at.” I lied even more, pointing above his head. He turned back and saw the artistic painting and there was a look of realization on his face.
He nodded, “Alright.” And he took out his phone.

I knew he might want to play games on his phone and retract his attention from me. And that was something I couldn’t afford.
“So what’s the magazine about?” I asked, trying to start a conversation.
“Nothing important. Just checking through the season collections.” He answered without looking at me and flipped the page
to the next one.
Oh, I think he’s playing a game. Or maybe it’s just in my head?
“What brand is that?” I asked and he replied, “L V.”
He was really trying to put a bridge between us. And it was the bridge I asked for, but I no longer wanted it.
“Can I see?”
“It’s time for your flight.” Steven walked in and announced, interrupting my plans. I internally groaned but got on my feet and followed Damien out of the lounge.
He held my hand and a smile unintentionally spread over my lips. Till we got to the hangar, my hands were still in his hand as he eloquently spoke with Steven about things that should be done once we leave. He was in full business mode and it was another thing I feel like I enjoy watching.
“I really hope you guys have a good time even if it’s for a short visit,” Steven said as he waved us off.
“Thank you. Please take good care of Delores and my baby.” I replied to him and soon enough, we boarded the plane and were ready to leave for Cancun.
It was still a bit surreal but also thrilling. I couldn’t wait to see what Cancun looks like. The flight shouldn’t take so long since it was in Mexico. It was one of the most highlighted and hyped places for a vacation. And aside from the pictures I’ve seen online, I have never been there and don’t know much of what to expect.
And now that I thought of it, I would have loved to spend more than some hours in that beautiful city.
“So there’s a change of plan, Irene.” Damien sat opposite me in the private jet that was now up in the air and flying us to the location for our fake honeymoon.
“What’s that?” I asked, hoping all was well. Or maybe he was going to extend the vacation.
“We are not staying long in Cancun. So we’ll be returning tonight instead of tomorrow.” He said to me and spoke to one of the air hostesses to get us a bottle of champagne.
“Why?” I queried immediately because that’s not what I wanted.
“Isn’t it logical to keep enough distance between us as you wanted us to be?” He asked as if I was supposed to automatically understand what he had just said. And I should since they were just simple words that were straightforward with their meaning.
“Are you saying you don’t want to spend time in Cancun because of what I said before?” Lasked him, feeling frustrated that everything wasn’t going according to how I wanted it to go.
I wanted to go to Cancun. I wanted to have fun in Cancun with Damien. I wanted Damien to not stop chasing after me. Greedy, I know. I also wanted to confirm if it is worth giving another try or if I should just move and go back to Los Angeles once all of this is over.
But with this attitude, he was giving, I wasn’t so sure if I’d be able to achieve any of that.
“Did you say something before?” He asked, and it was then I knew he was playing a game with me.

But what was his goal?
“Are you playing a game with me? What’s the purpose?” I questioned him, quirking my brows at him.
of our house.” He replied, a smirk playing on his lips as he stared at me intently.
“I have no idea of what you’re talkin
a rene. I’m only doing exactly what you asked of me two days ago in the kitchen
But I remained strong and didn’t cave into his game.
I almost cowered under his piercing gaz
“But I didn’t intend for our plans to change. I just wanted us to remain civil. But you’re treating me as if I’m not even there.” I expressed to him while still trying not to sound desperate.
“I see you, Irene. I held your hands and I’m currently talking to you. So I’m not acting that way.” He responded as if he had all the replies to every word that would come out of my mouth.
And I didn’t know how to say the things I really wanted to tell him. It would seem desperate. It would be the reverse, it would seem as though I’m the one after him now.
“What’s got you silent and thinking?” He chuckled as he kept watching me.
“What about when the reporters requested a kiss for the camera Why did you lie that I was shy?” I managed to say, it’s better that I say a bit of what is on my mind.
“Weren’t you shy?” He laughed and the air hostess came back with what he ordered. She poured our drinks into the glass cups and left after asking if we needed anything else. And I replied that we didn’t.
She was trying to linger, purposely shooting flirty gazes at Damien even when the entire Miami knew that we were the newly married couple.
“Was that you being jealous of what?” He asked, his gaze calculated and his words cautious yet daring.
“No, I am not jealous. But we were in the middle of a conversation before she arrived with the drinks.” I replied defensively. “Alright. Now answer my question because I’m curious as to why my actions are affecting you when I’m only sticking to your request.” He said in a voice that was more bold than before.
But I didn’t let that faze me.
“I was not shy, Damien,” I stated clearly so he could hear even though he was just opposite me.
“So are you saying you wanted the kiss?” He asked, now looking at me more seriously than before.
This was it. This is my chance to seize the opening and take advantage of this honeymoon. In a way that, by the end of it, I have known what I really wanted with Damien Chad.
“If I say yes, will you kiss me?” I replied with a question instead of a straight-up answer.
“That’ll be amazing. But I’d like for you to be clear.” He replied, taking a sip of his champagne and I mimicked him.
Alcohol always gave that confidence boost.
It was now or never. But before that, I should make a deal.
“If I say yes, will you extend our honeymoon?” I asked and he nodded while mumbling a deep yes that I didn’t have to struggle to hear because of the timbre of his voice.
And now is my turn to express myself.
“I wanted you to kiss me in front of those cameras, like a public claim on me. So yes, I want you to kiss me.” I replied and the

look in his eyes made me unsure of what his reply would be even if he had already told me that he would give me what wanted if I said it.
“Are you sure that is what you want?” He asked as he got on his face and beckoned for me to get on my feet, his height towered mine effortlessly. I had to tilt my neck up to look at hin
“Yes,” I said and nodded, biting my lower lip.
And the next thing I felt was Damien’s lips on mine.
On the first touch, I could already guess what my entirety wanted without arguments. The only question is, will this play out well?
