Chapter 37
Irene’s POV:
I couldn’t hold myself from continuously eating but still tried to compose myself. By the time we were clearing out the appetizer, the waitress and another one brought out our main course.
The aroma alone already got me salivating. Thankful I wasn’t drooling like a bulldog would. I watched the waitresses do their job but honestly, I couldn’t wait for them to finish their explanations and leave for me to dig into the meal.
They looked so scrumptious already. And it looked like a meal that was prepared with love and meticulousness.
“The main course which is our special for tonight is Mexican Noodles Casseroles, Grilled Steak Tacos, and Yucatán–style Chicken and Onion stew with your bottle of Dominio De Pingus Wine.” The waitress explained and they both bowed and left after chorusing “Enjoy your meal“.
“Thank you.” Damien and I also chorused and before he could say anything, I was already diving into the food, moaning and singing songs of praises to the head chef. It felt like I was eating a glorious food that shouldn’t even be consumed.
But I also couldn’t resist the urge to keep filling my stomach and satisfying my taste buds with such deliciousness.
“You are definitely enjoying your meal. I don’t need to ask anything.” Damien had commented at some point, but with this tasteful dish, I paid his words no attention.
The next thing I saw was a flash on my face. Damien had just taken a picture of me stuffing my cheeks with good as if I’d been starved for ages.
“You’re so cute.” He commented and continued eating with me.
“Food makes a sad man happy.” I replied to him, “Talk more of someone who was already happy.” I added.
“So are you saying that you are happy?” He asked and that made me take a pause to think about his question and what I had said to him.
Was I truly happy? Or was it just the moment?
I don’t want to say what I’m not feeling, and at the same time, I don’t want to be sheltering my feelings. So I decided to say what I really felt.
“I think I’m happy,” I told him, smiling warmly.
“I’m happy that you feel that way.” He said to me and my smile spread even wider.
We kept on eating and by the time we were done, we had taken many pictures and videos to commemorate the night. We told them to pack the desert to go for us.
“I want us to go on a walk around the resort so it can aid our food digestion while we also enjoy the night.” Damien had said and that’s why we told them to pack the dessert for us.
It was a plain velvet cake. An entire cake just for us. These people just wanted us to become food–pregnant. And it was said that when food is very delicious, you don’t get full easily.
So I was not entirely complaining.
“Let’s go, wifey,” Damien said and we laced our hands together as he carried the fancy bag with his other free hand.
The moment we stepped out of the restaurant, the nightly breeze hit our skin as if it had been waiting for us to step outside
since.

“It’s chilly. But I like it.” said and Damien hummed. We spent the rest of the walk in silence. And it was oddly comforting. After so many chit–chats while eating, it was a welcomed difference to remain quiet while enjoying each other’s company.
These were a new side to Damien Chad that I was just witnessing. It felt extremely refreshing. And if this is how it’s going to always be, then I would never get tired of being with him.
Maybe I did make the right decision to give my ex–husband a second chance. Maybe, that was how our story was supposed
later. to go. Maybe, it is just our fate to get hurt in the start, so we could appreciate each other in a better way
Maybe this is how our story was supposed to go.
Just maybe.
“How was it?” Damien finally broke the silence when we got to the front door of our building. It was just a bungalow with one huge bedroom and a large living room.
“It was lovely and peaceful,” I answered honestly.
“And the dinner?” He asked, now facing me fully.
“That was the highlight of the evening. Every meal was delicious and very well enjoyed by me, I loved everything. Thank you.” I smiled sweetly at him and he leaned close to peck me on my lips.
And the next thing I heard was the sound of mariachi playing and surrounding us.
“The night wouldn’t be complete without good Mexican traditional music.” He said as he gently placed the bag of cake by the doorway and grabbed me to start dancing.
I was not a big dancer but with Damien dancing with me, the skill came from nowhere as I found myself moving and swaying to the rhythm and flow of the music. It was full of life as an elderly Mexican man serenaded me in that deep Spanish tone.
I was full of smiles as I began bouncing lightly on my feet. And clapped my hands. The night was truly awesome and became so perfect with the mariachis playing.
“You are dancing so well!” Damien hollered as we both began dancing wildly.
“You too!” I laughed.
And after some minutes of burning more calories, the music ended. And Damien surprised me by speaking Spanish to the men. I believe he was thanking them.
And I said the best I could by saying, “Muchas Gracias. Encantado.” to them. Which simply meant many thanks, nice to meet
years. you. It was the little I’ve been able to pick up from Delores after all these
I was the epitome of having a Spanish friend for four years and still being unable to speak or understand Spanish to an
extent.
But my comment made the men laugh and greeted me back.
“Adios!” I said as I waved them off.
“That was just super lovely.” I jumped into the ready arms of Damien, who spun me around and our lips melded into a sweet
kiss.
Like a magical feeling, the fire he lit up earlier this afternoon in the pool of my belly lit up and was now burning again. Way brighter and hotter than before.

“Are you tired?” He asked and I knew where he was headed. “We could just sleep if you are.” He added.

“Take me inside now and I want you to take me to cloud nine.” I glared at him.
“And don’t you even fucking dare tease me!”
