Chapter 39
Irene’s POV:
It’s been a week since we got back from our honeymoon and it’s just been one blissful moment after another blissful moment. The house was filled with everyone and we had fun and worked at the same time.
Everything was aligning together and was beginning to make sense for me.
“Delores, how was your date last night?” I asked her as she and I both cleared up the dining table we just used fo eakfast.
“Steven is a gentleman.” Was all she said while trying to hide her smile. But the visible blush staining her cheeks made me chuckle to myself.
“Why do I feel like there’s more to the story than that?” I teasingly asked and she carried the plates she had stacked on top of each other and rushed to the kitchen, leaving me still cleaning the table just so she could avoid any further questioning.
But in the book of our friendship, there’s no such thing as keeping such details to oneself. If she had forgotten the rules, I would remind her because she was the same person who asked for all the details of my honeymoon.
“Steven’s baby!” I hollered as I walked into the kitchen. Damien and Charlie had gone out this morning immediately after breakfast.
And God help me because all I want to do is tell him that Charlie is his biological son. Not just my son that he had to bond with, but also his own flesh and blood.
The love I see in his eyes for Charlie is already natural. Talk more of when he knows that Charlie is his son. And I am beginning to feel guilty, but I push down those weary thoughts for now.
I’ll deal with my dilemma later because right now is all about Delores and her new love interest.
“I’m not his baby.” She argued, washing the dishes while her back was facing me.
“Then you are Steven’s woman.” I teased and she splashed the water running from the tap at me.
“I’ll tell you everything, alright? But don’t tease me.” She said with a reddened face. And for her to be blushing this badly, then they must have gone to a higher base.
“Okay,” I said, allowing her to breathe a bit before I threw in the title that kept making her blush.
We were able to finish all the cleaning after a while since I stopped teasing her and that was distracting her. And afterward, we grabbed soda drinks from the fridge and a potato chips snack that was good enough for both of us.
Once we settled in the living room, we dived straight into gist. And like a storytelling master, she gave me all the details that happened. And it was official.
Delores is now Steven’s girlfriend. But I was quite wrong about them touching the base. Instead, they only kissed and smooched. And the rest was left to their imagination.
“I can’t wait to see him again, and you know, do stuff.” Delores had said at the end of the talk that caused me to laugh. She was falling fast and I was happy for their progress.
Their attraction to each other was natural.
I had to quickly dress up and head out because I had some ingredients to get for a new dish I wanted to try and make. Delores would have followed me but she had a video call meeting with her family today, and due to the time difference, she had to take advantage.

“I’ll be right back. Although I might need to visit like five different grocery stores to get all I want.” I informed her and she was already sucked into her phone to pay attention to my words so all she did was say ‘okay‘ with a nod.
She must be texting with Steven.
“See you later!” I shouted and she waved back without even sparing me a quick glance.
Stepping out of the house in my flowery patterned short dress, the cool afternoon breeze hit my skin and enveloped me. I took a deep sigh and enjoyed the freshness of the air.
“Today looks pretty.” I chirped as I gazed up at the blue sky that was dotted with white fluffy clouds.
I ordered a ride and it didn’t take up to a minute of me waiting outside for the ride to arrive.
Getting into the car, I told the driver where I was heading and he reared the engine of the car into life and drove us there.
“Thank you.” I paid the cab fare and once the car drove off, I took some seconds to look around the area. It’s been years since I came around this particular store to get groceries. It used to be one of my favorites..
There was a fresh look with new store designs. It made an automatic smile appear on my lips as I remembered just how this place held so many memories of me and Mother doing grocery shopping. We were like two peas in a pod.
So it was a no–brainer when becoming a caterer came from a place of passion. My mother and I were inseparable before she passed.
Eva had always lived the life she wanted. She was all girly and wanted all the luxurious things she could lay her hands on. Most especially, she always goes after things that belong to me.
Envy was her true nature amongst many others.
I decided to go get the things I needed instead of standing in the middle of the street while recalling emotional memories of my loved ones.
Once I stepped into the store, I got straight to what I had to do. I didn’t even know an hour had gone by until I checked my phone for time and any messages.
But I’ve also been getting this sick feeling that someone is intently watching me. And whenever I turned around, I wouldn’t see the shadow of the person, not to mention the person himself.
The hair at the back of my neck was beginning to stand so I rushed to the counter and paid for what I bought. I still had to visit other stores but I’ll do that next time.
Rushing outside of the store and trying to wave down a cab, I felt something hard poke my side as two men stood by both my sides.
“Scream and you die right here, right now.” One of them said in a low but dangerous tone that made cold chills run down my spine as sweats instantly beaded my forehead and filled up my back. My hands tightened around the two plastic bags the store used for packing what I bought.
I was fucking scared and threatened by two unknown men.
What was their intention?
“Co–operate and you will get to see another day.” The other said and when a black van pulled up in front of us, I knew that nothing happening right now was fine.
I am being kidnapped. And there’s no beacon of rescue in sight,
