Chapter 41
Irene’s POV:
My heart skipped a beat just when the bullet flew past me and hit the tree beside me. If I hadn’t swayed a bit, the bullet would have gone through my waist, possibly coming out from the other side.
“The next bullet is for your legs!” They shouted angrily as they missed their shot.
“Get her!” Another guy yelled, and the more I kept running, the faster the adrenaline rush was increasing. All that was ringing in my head was to survive. I can’t just die now.
I still had a lot of things to do in life, most especially to be there for my son. So I absolutely cannot give up and just let Eva and her goons kill me or hurt me.
The moment I burst onto the major road, I had a relief wash over my soul. But I knew that wasn’t the end. The road was dark and there was no car in sight or any vehicles in sight.
Surviving this night was paramount. I wonder how far these people brought me. And exactly where we were. But those questions didn’t need an immediate answer..
What I need right now is an angel in disguise. Someone who can aid my rescue and get me away from these men. And due to my constant fretting and looking back at the goons after my life, 1 tripped and fell.
My knees instantly bruised, causing pain to shoot up my already weak body. As I tried to stand up, not wanting them to catch up to me, I discovered that my ankle got sprained in the process.
“Fuck!” These men can’t catch me again. Tears kept gushing out of my eyes as I was feeling pain all over my body.
I tried to hop forward, but it was almost impossible. The ankle hurt so bad, and I turned to see if they would soon catch up
to me.
“Fuck,” they were getting close. I muttered and kept limping. It was better to do that than just standing in one position, waiting for my fate to catch up to me.
My horrible fate.
“Hey, get in with us!” A car suddenly pulled up to my side and it was a woman and a man in it. The woman was driving and. looking frantic.
I looked back at my tormentors and I looked at the face of the woman, my only chance to get away. So I chose her.
What are the chances of me getting kidnapped by this woman too? But however it goes, I know I made the choice that I thought was best. How do I run fast with a sprained ankle?
“I know they are after you. Get in. Hurry.” The woman said and hurriedly got into the back seat of the car. Before I could even slam the door shut, she sped off, not giving those men any chances to catch up to us.
A sigh of relief escaped my lips before I shut my eyes and rested against the headrest of the seat. I know I shouldn’t be relieved just yet because I was just rescued by strangers who I knew nothing about their intentions for me.
What if that entire area was operated by different groups of kidnappers and I was just rescued by another group? I couldn’t
tell.
Yet, I knew my chances weren’t as low as with those monsters Eva left me with. My bag and phone were with them, so I couldn’t even straight up call anyone.
I don’t know the new number Delores used here in Miami off the top of my head, nor do I know Damien’s number because

we rarely called or texted each other since we were seeing each other almost every day.
“Who were those men? Why were they after you?” The lady asked. “And my name is Lenora. This is my fiancé, George.” She introduced.
“Hello.” The man said, and I politely returned the greeting.
“I’m Irene. And those men kidnapped me today. I had just managed to run away from them. They wanted to take advantage of me.” I replied, still feeling the pains from running, falling to the ground, bruising my knees, and spraining my ankle.
“I’m sorry to hear that. You are such a strong lady for escaping such men.” Lenora said to me and I nodded, short of words because everything still felt fresh and scary.
“Th- thanks for rescuing me.” I managed to say even if I wasn’t all certain about them being real helpers. I couldn’t just trust them because they don’t look dangerous.
“We are glad to help. I know you might not trust us as we are practically strangers. But there’s nothing to be afraid of. We are driving into the city now and we’ll take you to our home for the night because of your condition. Then tomorrow, we’ll look into how you can go back to your own place and call your family Lenora explained, and the softness in her voice made me want to believe her.
But I couldn’t fully believe her.
I’d be a fool to trust her.
“Thank you. But once we get to your place, I’d like to call my family. I need to see them and assure them that I’m fine, I’ve been out since this afternoon.” I said to them, trying not to sound rude but polite.
I don’t want to sleep in a stranger’s home.
“Okay, we’ll do just that. We’ll help you in any way we can” Lenori assured me and I nodded, fidgeting with my fingers while silently praying that nothing bad would happen again
And true to their words, we arrived in the city and soon we got to their house. There was only one thing that instantly threw me into confusion as I leaped out of the car.
The house they said was theirs was also the same mansion I was currently living in with Damien.
