Chapter 42
Damien’s POV:
I hurriedly parked the car in the driveway and hurriedly got out helping Charlie as well. He was pressed and I had to drive fast while trying not to break the law.
He refused to use any restroom on the road except the one at home. Nobody told me he was that picky about things like
this.
I lifted him in my arms and rushed inside, beading straight to the nearest restroom which was the one for guests, close to the living room. I saw Delores sitting in the living room watching a movie.
Before she could even wave a hello at us, I had rushed Charlie into the bathroom. Once he was done and relieved, he finally smiled at me.
“I’m done!” He said excitedly. “I see that, picky boy. I chuckled at him and we exited the restroom together.
“What happened?” Delores asked, giggling at us.
“Oh, it was Charlie being picky and pressed.” I answered, and the said boy had rushed to change the movie to his own favorite show.
“Oh, he does that sometimes. It’s only Irene that knows how to handle him.” Delores laughed.
Talking about Irene, where is she?” I asked, missing her already since it’s been like five hours since Charlie and I went on a playdate at an amusement park.
“Oh, she told me she was going to get some groceries. She wanted to try a new recipe, but I expected that she hould have been back though.” Delores replied, glancing at her phone’s time
“How long has she left?” I inquired, checking my phone just in case I had missed calls from her or text messages.
“Oh, it’s been four hours now. Let me call and ask where she is Delores said but I quickly interjected and said, “I’ll call her instead.”
I immediately unlocked my phone and dialed her number but after ringing for a bit, it went to voicemail. I dialed it again and this time it was already switched off,
“Her number is switched off. Could you try it?” I try not to worry because her going off shouldn’t be a big deal.
“Sure,” Delores replied, immediately dialing her number. But with the expression she made, I knew it was the same thing the robotic voice told her.
“It’s saying the same thing. Could her battery be dead?” She asked while trying the number again.
I didn’t want to let worry consume me, but she would have gotten back if she only went grocery shopping.
“She should come back soon since you said it’s been a while since she left,” I said trying to calm Delores while also convincing myself that any moment from now, Irene will walk in through that door.
“You are right. She should get back soon.” Delores was looking sure so I decided to be like her, remain positive, and stay
calm
But as each hour passed and the door wasn’t being pushed, my worry for Irene began to climb up in my chest. I couldn’t just stay still and do nothing. I couldn’t just let various bad ideas develop in my mind without putting a cautious stop to them. My imagination wouldn’t give me peace so I knew I had to take action.

Chapter 42
“Let’s call the police, I announced and immediately grabbed my phone. Sensing how worried I was, in my peripheral vision, I saw Delores also dialing a number.
Once the emergency number answered on the second ring. I immediately dived into lodging my complaint. The worry wast etched into every syllable that came out of my mouth.
“Sir, we’ll send a dispatch to your address in a few minutes” The respondent told me and it calmed me a bit that I had involved people who could help me look into what was going of
She couldn’t have lost way
And who knows if she was robbed?
“Damn it. I hope nothing happened to her,” I said out loud, pacing back and forth as I listened to Delores explain what was happening to Steven.
“Where’s my mummy?” Charlie walked up to me and asked. It was then I realized I shouldn’t be acting so worried.
“She’s fine, champion. She will be back soon.” I said in a soft tone to him and accompanied words with a smile so he could really believe me that nothing was wrong.
Lonly hoped he didn’t overhear all I had said to the emergency respondent.
Then why did you look sad before?” He had asked and I quickly squatted to his level and pulled him to a hug.
“Oh my boy, you’re so insightful. But everything is alright, yeah!” I lifted him up in my arms and walked towards Delores.
“Okay” He said but I knew he could also tell that everything wasn’t alright.
“Steven will be here soon,” Delores informed.
The police will be here soon as well.” I told her and tried to remain calm for Charlie’s sake.
Some minutes later, the cops arrived and Delores explained all that had happened. They began looking into the nearest stores, and they couldn’t find anything from the feedback they gave me.
They were only helping me out so swiftly because of my status. But as the results were negative, I don’t consider them helping me..
“Sir, this is not easy. We have to go into each store and check their CCTV cameras.” One of the two officers said to me but I wasn’t having it.
“It’s already night time. She could be in extreme danger.” I complained, but all my complaints didn’t move them to do more than what they can do.
So we had to wait for the camera’s check–up until tomorrow, and trying not to get Charlie all panicking. I’m trying to remain calm. But it was hard. I was jittery and pacing all around.
Delores and Steven were just as unsettled as me.
The police literally told us there was nothing we could do until the next day. Anything could happen overnight. Irene was not a kid and I was so scared to lose her just when I just got her back after five years.
This wasn’t supposed to happen when we just started our new life together, building something more solid and trustworthy. Something assuring and something much more beautiful than ever.
And when strength was slowing fleeting from me as

door to the house was pushed open.
My mouth opened in amazement when I saw the people that entered the house.
The love of my life, Irene.
And my darling younger sister, Lenora.
