Chapter 44
Irene’s POV:
“Irene!”
“Mummy!”
A smile graced my lips as they both yelled for me delightfully, Ciarlie climbed the bed and hugged me tightly. I wasn’t even sure if he witnessed how I passed out or not. But I strongly hoped he didn’t, especially with the way I must have looked.
“Wifey.” Damien stood beside me and pecked my forehead with Charlie still in my arms.
“Darling.” Delores came as well and pulled me into a quick lug. Thank God you’re fine.” She added and I nodded with a grateful smile.
“You all must have been so worried,” I said to them and Delores tried not to talk.
“It’s okay love, Lenora explained to us all that happened. We are just happy that you are safe and sound” Delores replied with a smile that made me feel assured.
“Delores is right. All that matters right now is the fact that you are awake and healthy. Damien said as he sat by my side and grabbed my hands. Normally, being surrounded by everyone should make me feel stuffy as I was just getting back my breathing pace, but instead, I felt at peace and I felt loved.
And most importantly, I felt safe.
“Thank you,” I said to them and my son was still hugging me tight without letting me go for even a second.
“He missed you. We told him you weren’t feeling fine. He was asleep when we rushed you down here.” Delores whispered. into my ears and I shot her a grateful smile for taking good care of Charlie in my absence.
“Thank you both,” I said to them,
“Mummy, I miss you. When are we going home? I want you to cook my favorite pasta for me.” Charlie finally pulled apart and said to me, he cupped my cheeks with those small hands of his
It was nice to feel his touch after thinking I’d never see him again. It was relieving to see the faces of my loved ones after being on the brink of death. All because my step–sister hates and wants to see me perish at the hands of monsters that are hiding in the skins of men.
“My baby,” I kissed both his cheeks, “you are so cute.” I squished his cheeks and he giggled, “Once the doctor says I can go, I will. And we’ll buy all the ingredients for your favorite pasta. And mummy will make it for you.” I said to him.
“Don’t you like the pasta I made for you yesterday?” Delores asked him, playfully glaring at him which caused him to laugh so cutely.
“No!” He squealed as Delores attempted to tickle him.
“I won’t make them for you again.” Delores playfully threatened. Don’t worry. My mummy will make it for me.” He poked -out his tongue at her in a ‘duh‘ manner.
“Oh my God! Such betrayal Delores feigned being shocked and Charlie, who knew her so well, laughed at her.
After some more playful banter. Delores was able to use food to lure Charlie out of the room, knowing that Damien and I still needed to talk about a few things. And the other thing that is called lip–locking.
So the moment the door got shut, Damien Instantly pulled me into a hug. I could instantly feel the emotions that were

coming from him in a rushing manner. He was scared. And I am still scared.
“Irene,” He called but his voice broke into a silent sob that kick–started mine. “I thought I had lost you.” He cried into my neck, and the tears kept spilling from my eyes.
“Me too.” I wept, our tears soaking our clothes as we remained in each other’s arms. “I thought I was really going to die and it was all Eva’s doing,” I said to him and he instantly broke the hug with widened eyes as shock was etched on his features.
“Eva?” He exclaimed, “How?” He asked incredulously.
“You know what she is capable of when she locked me up in that cold room before. This time, she went so far as kidnapping me and leaving me in the hands of some men who wanted to have their way with me. Damien,” I broke into more tears, “I was so scared. I thought it was all going to be over if Eva accomplished what she wanted to accomplish.” I cried louder, my tears blurring my vision.
“Love,” Damien called but I couldn’t stop crying. I felt like I needed to let it all out. The fears, the anxiety, the pain, and the Trauma that I know will become a stigma that will attach to my life for a very long time. Damien’s broken voice also didn’t help to make me feel calmer.
He was also affected and I can’t even imagine what must be growing through his head.
“I’m so sorry you had to go through such a terrible and horrible experience. It’s all my fault.” He sobbed and I couldn’t help but feel the way my heart twisted in pain because of those kind words he just uttered.
“No, Damien, it’s not your fault.” I countered but he vehemently shook his head in disagreement with my statement.
It is my fault. I failed to protect you from the harm I promised wouldn’t come your way. Eva must have escaped from where I locked her up. She’s evil. How could she just want nothing more than to hurt you?” He asked in a soft but angry tone.
“You locked her up?” I asked, surprised.
“Yes, so she wouldn’t interrupt our wedding ceremony and to avoid more scandals.” He replied, still looking frantic at the
entire situation
“Did you hurt her or anything?” I asked, worried if he had gone so far at dealing with her. Because this felt like a vengeful
comeback.
“I didn’t. I only restricted her freedom.” He replied and I nodded, glad that she was locked up. But knowing Eva, just that fact alone that Damien went to that length because of me must have angered her greatly.
“And I made her watch a live celebration of our wedding.” He added and that’s when I gasped in disbelief.
Was I surprised? Yes.
Was I mad? No.
Was I oddly satisfied? Yes.
“You are a menace,” I commented, my tears already ceased.
“I need her to feel the cruelty of being wicked,” Damien said and seeing my reaction, he smiled.
“Just grateful that a lady like Lenora was sent to save me. Did you get to appreciate her and her boyfriend? I even think there was a mix–up somewhere, I could have been hallucinating as well I said in a go without giving him any chance to respond to any of my questions.
“Oh, Lenora?” He said as I nodded, “Lenora and George saved me.” I said as well, so he could grab my words. But the next sentence that came out of his mouth left me utterly surprised.

“Lenora is actually my sister,” He simply said and for the second time this morning, I gasped.
