Chapter 52
Irene’s POV:
The table went silent and we all awaited to hear exactly what Geige had to a He smiled and gazed lovingly ar
Lenora before clearing his throat
“My biggest dream in life was to find a love that will never fade or wither, and Lenora happens to be that love. She found me at my lowest and renewed my hope and light in life. I want to use this moment to thank the stars that made our paths align It has been more than sweet with you. Lenora ChadTM” He raised his glass and we all cheered for it
“And in light of things, I want to announce that Lenora and I will be getting married this summer. On the 20th.” He announced and we all cheered loudly for them.
“Wedding bells!” Delores hooted.
“This is good news. Steven said, shaking George’s hand.
“Wow, so my little sister will be getting married in two months. Damien reacted, gazing at her with a not–so–happy face. And that’s an expression I will question later.
Congratulatory comments filled the air until we all called it a night. Steven went home because he had to oversee some ongoing projects. Delores and Charlie slept together in their room. George and Lenora also went to their room, and when they were bidding us a good night, the look in Damien’s eyes was not that of a supporting brother..
So the moment we got into our bedroom, I couldn’t help but ask “Why didn’t you look so happy to hear that your sister will be getting married to George soon?”
“That?” He asked as he began undressing himself
“Yes, that. It was so obvious. Didn’t you think Lenora would notice and feel somehow?” I asked him, and he clicked his tongue, not replying.
I walked up to him and placed my hand on his bare chest. “Look at me.” I used a stern voice that still had a lilt of softness to it. “Is this a brother being overly protective?” I asked as he looked at me with a scowl deepening his forehead.
“No, it’s not that, Irene.” He answered then looked
“Then what is it?” I asked, tilting his face so he was looking at me again.
“It may sound silly but I don’t trust that guy.” He said and I could now see that not that he was not supporting them.
was worry that was glimmering in his
eyes,
“Why do you think he’s not trustworthy?” I asked, genuinely concerned even though I never knew Lenora until recently. But she’s my savior and 1 will do my best to ensure her happiness. Its the least I can do to show her how grateful I am.
I just feel like he is that kind of man who wants to marry Lenora because she came from a wealthy family. The way he talks seem like he has planned everything. Too sweet and too smooth. He poses as flawless. And they had only recently met. Why are they rushing to get married? Lenora, who even vowed to not return home until she was finished with her schooling. came back home.” He expressed his feelings and I could only understand him slightly,
George has been respectful and proven to be a good man for Lenora. And the heart wants what it wants. If they love each other and none of them is forcing each other, then I don’t think there’s any reason to be worried.
But as her brother, I know he knows his sister more than I do. And I can’t butt so much into their personal family affairs. I can give unbiased advice and render unwavering support to them.
“Am I overthinking this? Do you think I am overreacting?” He asked me as he noticed that I went quiet. But I didn’t want to

say what I was thinking, I needed to be careful with my words.
“No, you are not,” I replied and he let out a sigh, taking a seat at the edge of the bed.
I walked to him and sat beside him, “Your worries are valid, Damien. But you have to also think from Lenora’s perspective. She is happy and she wants to be with George. Whether or not he’s a good guy, let her be the judge of that. If you try to come between them, it may result in something else you are not ready for I told him, even though the best thing for Lenora would have been him interfering.
“What if she never gets to see it?” He asked me, “If it’s meant to be, then so be it. But Lenora is an adult, let’s leave her to make her decisions. But there’s always room to interfere if there is evidence or it’s really crucial. But for now, let’s see how things pan out.” I said to him and he slowly nodded his head.
*What would I do without you?” He asked as he wrapped his arm around my waist, and pulled my side closer to him. “You are the balm to my pain. The calm to my storm.” He said and I grinned instantly.
*And you have a way of always making me smile and feel special Mr Chad,” I said to him and he pecked my
forehead.
“Go freshen up and come join me in bed.” He said as she lightly spanked my ass and pushed me towards the bathroom.
By the time I was done and ready to join him in bed, Damien was already out like a light. I chuckled at the cute sight of him peacefully sleeping.
But deep down, I couldn’t water down the worries that he expressed about Lenora’s fiancé, George. I tried to think deeper into all the moments we’ve spent together since I got back from the hospital, but I couldn’t find any crack that could pinpoint that he was a bad guy.
But if he truly was?
Or what if Damien is just wrong and overthinking things?
I guess with time, we will find out.
But as for tomorrow, I need to mentally and emotionally prepare for my first therapy visit.
