Chapter 78
Trene’s POV
Everyone’s attention perked up the moment Eva said she had something to say and that it was also a surprise. They all stopped eating and focused on her, some with amusement and others with curiosity about what it could be.
“Mmmmn. I’m curious. What could this surprise be about?” Lenora was the first to talk, and she gazed at Eva with amusement dancing in her eyes. I wish she just knew already what kind of person Eva truly was.
“Do I have everyone’s attention? The bitch asked and 1 had to try so hard to resist the urge of rolling my eyes. She rolled herself on the wheelchair backward, pushing herself away from the dining table and moving away to the center of the living area so everyone could see her.
All I was wondering was what she could have up her sleeves. And I hope it doesn’t affect anyone I love and care for in this
room.
So with eyes full of intent. I watched her, and ready to jump into action just in case she did something out of the ordinary. Like the crazy witch she is.
“Come on, the suspense is killing me.” Lenora whined and I giggled at her comment, “Me too.” I said, while locking my gaze on her, using my eyes to warn her even though I was currently the one at her mercy.
But she paid me no mind as she removed her gaze from me and focused on the others in the room.
think it’s better I show you.” Eva’s words hung in the air, a smirk curling on her lips as she pulled something from her lap. a small box wrapped in glossy black paper. The air in the room felt thicker, like everyone was holding their breath, waiting for whatever bombshell she was about to drop.
Including me. I had no freaking idea just what this surprise is all about.
I clenched my hands under the table knowing I wouldn’t like what the surprise would be about, my pulse quickening as if a rush of lava was currently flowing through my veins.
My instincts screamed that nothing good could come from this, not from her, Eva lived for moments like these, when she had all the attention, when she could twist things in her favor. She loved being in control, and this surprise of hers had the stench of manipulation all over it
“What’s in the box, Eva?” Damien asked, breaking the tense silence. He was seated next to me, his posture was stiff just as uneasy as I was, his eyes flicked to me for a second, his brows furrowing in a silent question as if I might know about what was going on. I gave a small shake of my head, my gaze glued to Eva. No idea.
I had no freaking idea. And it was killing me slowly on the inside
The ticking clock on the wall became so loud it felt like a ticking time bomb.
Eva chuckled softly, her fingers caressing the edges of the box like it was some precious artifact. “Oh, Damien, you’ll see soon enough. I promise it’ll change everything.”
I couldn’t help the chill that ran down my spine at those words. Everything?
What did she mean? What was she blabbing about now?
I was on the verge of screaming and doing something stupid jus to put a stop to this freaking charade. My inside was boiling madly.
Eva glanced at me then, her dark eyes locking onto mine with a knowing glint. She was enjoying this far too much, that sick game of hers. I stared back, refusing to flinch, refusing to give her the satisfaction of knowing just how much she unnerved

me- and how much I felt threatened by her.
“Well,” Eva began slowly, Tve been holding onto this for a while now, waiting for the right moment. And I believe now’s as good a time as any.” She opened the box, and almost everyone in the room leaned forward unconsciously, captivated by the suspense she wove around herself.
My heart pounded in my chest, the anticipation almost unbearable. I wasn’t sure what I expected–maybe something trivial.
something devastating. With Eva, it could go either way, but it would never be insignificant.
Or could she know about the true identity of my son and she was trying to break Damien and me apart? Because that would very much break what I have with Damien.
It is the only weapon anyone can yield against me to break me and Damien apart.
Oh fuck! What if that is truly what tonight’s surprise is about? Was everything going to end here?
Then, she pulled out the thing from the box, halting my haywire thoughts.

Everyone’s faces morphed from curiosity to confusion as they must be wondering what could be on the flash drive just like I
Eva held it up, turning it slowly so everyone could see like a perfect show master. And in a millisecond, I envied her theatrical skills.
This little thing” she said softly, her voice almost a purr, ‘contains something very, very interesting. Something about each of you. Secrets… truths that you’ve all been keeping.”
And I felt the blood drain from my face.
“Secrets“” Delores, even looking more confused, asked out loud, She had never liked Eva, and with the way she was glaring at Eva right now I knew for certain she would never like my step–sister.
I was the only fool that got duped and deceived. I was the only one with a soft and tender heart that Eva found so easy to manipulate.
How can someone who knows nothing about me still know where to attack? She knew the right weapons to wield and use against me. And it makes it seem as though she was once a best friend that later turned into a foe.
All of this could have been avoided if only I had just chosen to be brutal and not believe her.
If only.
Because now, my fate totally lies in the hands of my worst enemy. And I don’t know how I would survive the next minute in this room with everyone.
Especially with Damien.
