Chapter 79

It was once again silent. And Eva was enjoying being the main character of the night. The fact that she had everyone’s attention and her words got me especially tensed was making her feel all high and mighty

She then gazed at me, hardly and threateningly. I was teetering on the edge of begging her for mercy to keep her mouth sealed with any secrets. She was playing this so well and so good

But suddenly, something unexpected happened

Eva bursted into laughter

What the fuck? Has she finally lost all the nuts and screws in her head

Oh my God!She laughed even harder and we all stared at her in more confusion, while I was fuming with frustration

You guys should have seen your faces! She laughed, pointing at our expressions

I’m just kidding. Does that mean you all have skeletons in your cupboards? She cackled and Lenora and George joined her in laughing while the rest of us kept watching her

Everyone does. It’s just a matter of how bloody the skeletons could be.Lenora said and slowly the tension diffused. Everyone’s shoulders sagged and their faces relieved

And that only made me wonder just how true Lenora’s words could be, but that wasn’t the major deal for the night. All I wanted to know was what Eva’s surprise was all about

Well, I’m sorry for pranking you all. I just had to be dramatic. I guess that part of me can never leave me.” She giggled and I tried to smile when Damien looked at me again. He shouldn’t know yet about the change of heart I had

So what then is the surprise? I’m curious too. Delores said, but with a serious expression and it was then I saw what the surprise was going to be

Eva secretly wiggled her toes and it instantly clicked in my head that she wanted to get out of the lack of freedom she had by being in a wheelchair

Eva dangled the flash drive for dramatic effect, but I knew that wasn’t the real surprise. Not even close

Now, she wants to reveal something that would make everyone feel happy and sympathize with her

This womanthis liarhad an entire room captivated, as if she were some sort of good woman overcoming trials and tribulations. But I knew better. I knew what she was hiding behind that smirk, behind that innocent act

She wasn’t helpless, never had been. It sucks how bad people still get favored in life

And now, with all eyes on her, she was about to twist her lie into something heroic. I clenched my jaw, knowing what was coming, yet powerless to stop her. Not with her threats hanging over my head like a guillotine. One wrong step and it’s cutting off my head without hesitation because machines don’t hesitate

I’ve been waiting for the right time to tell everyone,Eva began her voice trembling just enough to sound genuine and pathetic. It’s been a difficult road, butthe specialist I’m seeing told me something in my last therapy session.”

Lenora gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. Oh

my God, Eval What is it? What did the doctor say?”

Eva lowered her gaze, the perfect picture of being that good perion, and thenslowly, deliberatelyshe gripped the arms of her wheelchair. She pushed herself up, her legs trembling in the most convincing display of struggle. Everyone around

the table gasped as Eva stood, her frame shaky but upright

The room fell into stunned silence, and my heart pounded in my cars. I wanted to scream. To expose her for the manipulative fraud she was. But her words echoed in my mind, the threat she had whispered to me just hours ago

Say anything, and everyone you care about will suffer.”

So I watched, trapped in my own silence, as Eva stood there with fake tears welling up in her eyes. She let the moment. stretch, basking in the awe and admiration of the others

This was what she wanted, the attention, the care, the love. Everything she always craved, and she was finally receiving it. Even Delores and Damien believe her, happy for her healing progress

The doctors said. I may never walk again, she whispered, her voice quivering. But I never gave up hope thanks to all of you in this room Showering me with the love, affection, and care that I felt like I did not deserve. You took me and supported me emotionally, physically, and financially. I’m so grateful to you all. Thank you for giving me a second chance, and I promise not to fail any of you anymore.” She gave her speech that only I could smell the lies that reeked so badly

Aside from George, who knew about her lies, I was the only other person

A round of applause broke out around the table. Lenora wiped away tears, Damien looked on in amazement, and everyone else had that lookpure admiration. They were eating out of her hand

But not me

I knew the truth. I knew that she had never needed that wheelchair. Even though I also only found out this afternoon which made me feel like the biggest fool of the year. And this was just another move in her twisted game. And the worst part was, that there was nothing I could do to stop her. Not yet, anyway

But one day, I would. One day, her lies would catch up to her. And I’d be ready

And if the lies don’t catch up to her, I’ll make sure to unravel them. I’ll make sure to expose everything, and protect my family

But for now, I just have to play her games with her and abide by her rules

So, I smiled. I forced itthe kind of smile that stretches your cheeks but never reaches your eyes. The whole room was clapping and cheering, and I needed to blend in. I stood up from my chair, walked over to Eva, and threw my arms around her in what must have looked like a genuine embrace

You did it, Eva,I whispered into her ear, my voice dripping with false admiration. You’re amazing.”

She pulled back slightly, her face still wet with those crocodile tears, but her eyesthey were glinting, sharp with victory. She knew exactly what she was doing. And I hated her for it

Thank you,she said softly, her voice fragile and full of gratitude. The room practically hummed with the energy of her miracle, and everyone else seemed none the wiser

Lenora came bounding over, practically shoving nie aside to get to Eva. This is unbelievable! Oh my God, we have to celebrate! You’re a fighter, Eva. I always knew you had it in you

I stepped back, giving them space as everyone crowded around her, offering their congratulations, their praise. They didn’t see the trap they were falling into, the web Eva had spun so carefully. But I did. I watched her soak up the attention like she had earned it. Like she hadn’t lied to everyone’s face

I had to laugh and joke along with them, pretending that my heart wasn’t pounding with rage. I couldn’t let anyone see the truth in my eyes, especially not Eva. She glanced at me over Lenora’s shoulder, her lips curling into the faintest smirk. She knew I was faking it. She knew that I was trapped

He nodded, his eyes still wide with amazement. It really is. Can yo
