She let go of Barbara’s arm and said, “If you want an autograph, go ahead. I’ll wait for you.”
“No.” Barbara shook her head, feigning indifference. “There are so many people lining up. It would take forever to get to me. Besides, I guess I’m not that into her anymore. Let’s go eat. I’m starving Barbara then took Seraphina’s arm and led her
away.
Seraphina felt a warm gratitude. She knew Barbara had skipped he autograph for her sake. She felt like having such a steadfast best friend was more than enough.
After signing one more autograph, Catherine looked up and noticed Seraphina and Barbara walking away arm–in–arm. She gave a slight smirk, tossed her hair, and announced, “My dear faris, I have another appointment to rush to, but I’ll come back another time to sign more autographs. Gotta run now. Love you all, muaht”
Catherine blew a kiss before she left, and the crowd of girls erupted in screams.
Seraphina didn’t know why Catherine had suddenly appeared at their school gate and had no intention of finding out. She needed to focus entirely on the SAT now.
It was as if Clarence had vanished into thin air. He hadn’t contacted her at all, not even a text message. Yet, Seraphina still returned every day to the apartment he had rented for her until the day of the SAT,
After more than a decade of school life, many students hugged and cried together as they left the exam room. They tore their books and tossed the pages into the air, releasing the stress of the past weeks.
After a brief celebration, Seraphina and Barbara headed to the cake shop where they worked. They hadn’t been there for the past few days due to the exams. The shop was particularly busy today, and the manager called them in to help.
Seraphina was distracted, and during work, she checked her phone repeatedly. Today marked the end of the SAT and was supposed to be the day she and Clarence fulfilled some promises they had made to each other. However, it was already afternoon, and there was still no word from him.
Of course, Seraphina couldn’t bring herself to contact him first. After the cold things he had said to her that day, snuffing out her naive hopes, what right did she have to disturb him? She remembered their promise only to repay a debt. Their relationship was just that–cold and distant.
“Oh my, is that Catherine?” Suddenly, an excited shout rang through the shop.
Catherine? Hearing the name, Seraphina slipped her phone into her pocket and peeked into the lobby.
And there she was, Catherine, dressed in a pale white long dress that cinched at the waist, her chestnut curls cascading down her shoulders, embodying grace and allure. She wore sunglasses but made no attempt to disguise herself. Standing tall in her heels, she was surrounded by a few girls, her vibe effortlessly attractive.
Heavenly Cakes was the largest cake chain in Angoria, so encountering celebrities there for cakes or afternoon tea wasn’t unusual.
“Cathy, can we take a photo with you?” the girls around her asked excitedly. “You’re even prettier than on TV”
Thank you, Catherine responded gently.
She bent her knees slightly and posed for photos with the girls, who were shorter than her. Her considerate behavior only boosted her likability.
“No wonder the Vanderbilts like her so much; she’s so cultivated, the manager whispered to Seraphina tray. “This is Catherine’s takeout coffee. Sera, could you deliver it to her?”

Barbara was out on a delivery. Otherwise, this task would have fallen to her.
Seraphina took the tray, hesitated for a moment, and then walked over to Catherine.
After the girls had dispersed, Catherine looked around, and her gaze settled on Seraphina. Seraphina wore a soft, beautiful smile. Her eyes were hidden behind the sunglasses, but surely they sparkled with warmth.
“Ms. Howard, your takeout coffee is here, Seraphina said gently as she approached.
Thank you.” Catherine reached for the coffee, her tone full of warmth. “Oh, and could you please take my cake to the car outside?” she added, pointing outside.
Seraphina looked over and saw a car half hidden by a tree on the sidewalk–a black one, not the white Mercedes.
“Of course,” Seraphina replied.
Catherine’s smile widened, and she reminded with a tender voice, “Be careful. It’s an engagement cake. I wouldn’t want my brother to be upset if anything happened to it”
Seraphina wondered, ‘An engagement cake that could upset her brother? Is the brother her fiancé, or is it Clarence?
A twinge of discomfort jabbed at Seraphina’s heart. Lately, the media had been taking pictures of them together and speculating that Catherine might become Clarence’s future wife Indeed, such an accomplished girl undoubtedly had the qualifications to be Mrs. Vanderbilt.
Seraphina steadied her lips into a smile and responded, “Okay.”
“Thank you,” Catherine said politely, her smile lingering as she cradled her coffee and walked out of the shop.
Seraphina watched Catherine’s figure until she opened the car door and sat in the passenger seat. The car was shiny. certainly luxurious.
The cake was ready, and a coworker was packaging it. Soon, it was handed to Seraphina. The ribbon was shaped into a heart, and the packaging was exquisite.
Seraphina didn’t really want to deliver it, but with Barbara out and the other colleagues busy, she had no choice but to carry the cake outside.
The car was parked by the curb, initially obscured by a large tree. At first, Seraphina hadn’t seen the license plate clearly, but
that she was standing right in front of the car, it was unmistakable.
Her steps halted abruptly as she saw Clarence sitting in the driver’s seat. He seemed to be in a good mood as he was speaking with Catherine with a smile.
Catherine was even more joyful, and her hearty laughter even spread out of the car. She held some snacks, attempting to feed them to Clarence.
Clarence reached out to block her hand, but at that moment, he spotted Seraphina standing in front of the car. His smile faded instantly, his eyes turning deep and icy.
He looked at Seraphina indifferently, with no expression other than a brief initial startle. His gaze was as cold as if he were looking at a stranger.
Seeing that. Catherine shifted her gaze toward Seraphina too. With her sunglasses removed, her face was even more strikingly beautiful with joy.
Seraphina saw Catherine’s lips move, probably telling Clarence. It’s the girl delivering the cake. After speaking, Catherine waved at Seraphina, motioning her to come forward. But Seraphina didn’t move.
