Chapter 4
Clarence’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smile, a glint of amusement flickering in his eyes. This girl,” he mused, ‘really understands the power of money. One dip in the lake, and she’s asking for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Much easier than those desperate frauds who throw themselves in front of cars
Tapping his chin, Clarence’s tone was laced with derision as he asked, “Do you really think you’re worth that much?”
The cutting words hit Seraphina like a slap. She trembled, her eyes instantly welling with tears. She had overestimated her ability to endure his cruelty, never expecting his words to cut so deeply. For a moment, she wanted to back down. She hated the thought of being seen as nothing more than a greedy girl, chasing after wealth.
But she had no choice. There was no turning back now. She had already burned the bridge that Heather had offered- destroyed the savings card that could have saved her father. ‘Can I really afford to give up on this hope too?‘ she thought. ‘My father is lying in that hospital bed, suffering, waiting for money for his surgery. I can’t walk away!
Biting her lip, Seraphina blinked back her tears and raised her head. Her once bright eyes, now glistening, shone like diamonds in the fading light. With all her pride suppressed, her expression became strangely calm, almost resigned.
In a low voice, she said, “I can be your mistress.”
Clarence froze. The playful sneer that had danced at the corners of his mouth disappeared in an instant. Higaze, once amused, darkened as he stared at her with newfound depth. He hadn’t expected this–for such a young, innocent–looking girl to say something so bold.
No woman had ever made such a straightforward offer to him, even though he knew many had entertained the idea. She, was the first to speak so plainly to him.
“Do you even know what you’re saying?” His voice was low, rumbling like distant thunder,
But now that Seraphina had taken the plunge, her courage seemed to gather. Her words came out smoother, though her checks flushed with embarrassment.
“Of course, I know what I’m saying I have nothing but myself. And… I’m not exactly unattractive, am I?” Her voice faltered, her confidence waning as she looked away. “You wouldn’t mind, right? The two hundred thousand dollars… I’ll repay you with myself, however long it takes. The decision is yours.”
Clarence remained silent, his piercing gaze locked on her. As Seraphina spoke, her face grew redder, her voice softer, shrinking with each word
He hadn’t paid attention to her appearance the night before, when he had pulled her out of the lake–she had been soaked, her features obscured by water and darkness. But now, even with her clear nervousness, there was no denying the delicate beauty of her face.
Her perfect cheekbones, full lips, and expressive eyes made her a rare beauty. In a nicer dress, she could easily outshine any woman in the room. She wasn’t just not unattractive–she was stunning
Without warning, Clarence stood up and slowly made his way toward her. The icy aura that surrounded him was thick with power, making Seraphina instinctively step back. But before she could retreat further, his hands shot out and gripped her wrist, pulling her closer to him.
Seraphina’s hands flew up to brace herself against his chest, her palms pressing into the warmth of his skin. The moment she felt the heat of his body, she recoiled in shock, yanking her hands back as though she had been burned. Her wide eyes darted up to meet his, filled with panic–like a small, defenseless rabbit cornered by a predator,
She lowered her gaze quickly, flustered. Clarence’s lips twisted into a cold, amused smirk, his eyes gleaming with the kind of interest a hunter takes in cornering its prey. He reached out and tilted her chin upward, forcing her to meet his gaze once again

He leaned in slowly, his breath warm against her skin. Panicked, Seraphina could feel his closeness, her body trembling uncontrollably. His chiseled face grew larger in her vision, his breath mingling with hers, teasing her already frazzled nerves. Every inch of her wanted to flee, but she was frozen in place.
Seraphina’s heart raced, pounding wildly in her chest, her breath coming out in shallow gasps. Clarence’s warm breath, however, brushed against her face with perfect precision before he paused, his intense gaze laced with an almost wicked amusement as he studied her angelic features.
His voice dropped to a low, seductive murmur, each word designed to stir her resolve. “There are plenty of women eager to be my mistress. You certainly know how to pick your moment,
Seraphina, flustered and unsure, found herself speechless.
“Two hundred thousand dollars,” Clarence scoffed softly, his tone cutting through her nerves like ice. “Why set your price so low for something as valuable as your dignity?”
The words struck Seraphina like a blow. The sum, one she had barely managed to say aloud, a sum that felt astronomically high to her, was nothing but pocket change in his eyes.
She stood there, her cheeks burning under the weight of his mocking gaze, feeling exposed. Every ounce of courage it had taken for her to say those humiliating words seemed to wither away. She had loathed the way Heather had thrown money at her like she was nothing, and now here she was, voluntarily degrading herself for the same thing.
She almost laughed bitterly at the absurdity, thinking she had fallen too far. Her pride had been crushed so many times, and now it could no longer sustain her.
Im sorry. I’ve wasted your time Tears welled up in her eyes, turning them into gleaming pools of vulnerability. Her large eyes, always a striking feature, now looked even more doe–like, making her appear heartbreakingly fragile.
She reached up to pull Clarence’s hand from her chin, but he swiftly seized her wrist instead, his grip firm but not painful. “If you can’t handle this much, how do you expect to be a mistress? Especially mine Clarence’s voice was as cold as ever, yet there was an undercurrent she didn’t quite understand.
Seraphina blinked, her confusion evident in her tear–filled gaze. “D–does that mean….you agree?”
He didn’t answer her directly, but a faint smirk tugged at the corners of his mouth, carrying a mix of amusement and something far more dangerous. Without another word, he stepped back, grabbed his phone from the coffee table, and dialed a number.
“Sharon…” he spoke into the phone as he walked a few steps away, his voice too low for Seraphina to make out the rest of the conversation
When he finished, Clarence returned to her side, arms folded as his eyes roamed over her, scrutinizing her from head to toe with a glint of something dark in his gaze. “Show me what you’ve got.”
Seraphina froze, unsure of what he meant by that. She didn’t dare ask And it was clear that Clarence wasn’t going to explain.
Without warning.
he untied the towel wrapped around him, revealing his perfectly sculpted body. Broad should tapered into a trim waist, his muscles rippling under the low light as he stood there, unabashed.
The suddenness of his action sent a shock through Seraphina. Her cheeks flamed as she quickly averted her eyes, her heart hammering in her chest. She couldn’t bring herself to look at him directly, her mind spinning with confusion and embarrassment.
Her reaction didn’t go unnoticed by Clarence. He chuckled softly, the sound almost mocking, as if her innocence and shyness amused him. With a splash, he dove into the pool, the water swallowing him whole.
Seraphina’s heart skipped a beat as she watched the ripples in the water as he swam. He’s not just handhome–he’s dangerously gorgeous Too good–looking for his own good and mine,‘ she thought.

Clarence swam effortlessly cutting through the water like a predator that owned the space. His sleek, athletic body moved with the grace of a shark, powerful and indifferent. Seraphina stood frozen by the poolside, not daring to move a muscle. Ten minutes passed, maybe more, but it felt like forever as her thoughts ran wild.
Clarence, on the other hand, seemed perfectly content to ignore her, gliding through the water with ease. After several long minutes, a woman approached. It was Sharon Martin, the housekeeper of the estate, her uniform neat and professional, her hair pinned up tightly. She radiated efficiency, her eyes kind but sharp as she approached Seraphina. She greeted Seraphina with a polite nod, her demeanor warm.
“Mr. Clarence,” she called out, moving closer to the pool’s edge, where Clarence was lazily drifting near the surface.
Clarence swam over to her, and they exchanged a few words that Seraphina couldn’t hear.
Whatever it was, it made Sharon’s eyes flicker ever so briefly before she nodded in calm understanding. “Yes, sir.” Sharon then turned around and walked over to Seraphina.
When she reached Seraphina, she extended her hand with a professional smile, her voice gentle yet firm. “Ms. Seraphina, please follow me.”
Seraphina obediently followed Sharon into the grand estate.
As the door swung open, Seraphina was struck speechless by the opulence that greeted her. Every inch of the room. screamed luxury, from the gleaming marble floors to the glittering chandeliers overhead. It was like stepping into a palace. The rich, ornate decorations exuded a sense of power and wealth that felt utterly foreign to her.
Only one word came to her mind–extravagant. She had only ever seen places like this on TV. This was the world of the rich. A world where money wasn’t just an object, it was a language, one she didn’t speak.
Inside, she couldn’t help but feel the heavy weight of her own reality, a sharp contrast to the grandeur around her.
