Chapter 40
The necklace made Seraphina’s smooth, delicate neck look even more beautiful. Then, Clarence suddenly asked, “Are you full
Seraphina didn’t respond immediately after hearing him, and then he continued. “I’m in the mood for some dessert.”
She took a deep breath and thought. A man who’s had a taste of something good is truly terrifying!
After being thoroughly “devoured“, Clarence drove Seraphina back to the villa. Sharon had gathered some training materials for her and said, “Ms. Johnson, take a look. Let me know what you’d like to learn, and I’ll arrange it for you.”
Seraphina was scrolling through the news on her phone when she came across an article about the equipment company to which she had previously applied. It had gone bankrupt, and that James guy had been caught for corruption and bribery. He was now behind bars.
Thinking back to what happened that day, she couldn’t help but feel a lingering sense of fear. If Randy hadn’t shown up to save her, she couldn’t imagine what would ve happened. A woman like her would have had no way to fend off a group of men trying to force her.
Now, one was bankrupt, and the other was in prison. They had gotten exactly what they deserved. Seraphina also knew that all of this was Clarence’s doing-
Randy showing up that day hadn’t been a coincidence. It had all been arranged by Clarence. He had cast a net around Seraphina, knowing everything she did. Clarence, a seasoned businessman, could easily see through the hidden dangers of her going to that dinner meeting, so he sent Randy to follow her.
The classic hero rescue at just the right moment–it made Seraphina feel grateful. Specifically, Clarence had indeed gone through some effort to get her back into his life.
Sharon handed the tablet to Seraphina. She browsed through it and suddenly spotted a section for combat training. “This
one” she said.
Sharon paused, thinking, ‘Mr. Vanderbilt wanted her to work on her refinement, but she’s choosing physical training. This is definitely not what he had in mind‘
She tried to object. “Ms. Johnson-
But Seraphina already knew what Sharon wanted to say and cut her off, “Sharon, didn’t he say I could pick whatever I wanted to learn?”
Sharon couldn’t argue. Clarence had indeed said that moments go, leaving the decision entirely up to Seraphina. But Sharon was sure he hadn’t expected Seraphina to choose combat training.
“Alright then. I’ll arrange it, Sharon said with a smile. “Actually, earning some self–defense isn’t a bad idea.”
That was exactly what Seraphina had in mind. That day, if Randy hadn’t been there, her helpless self would’ve been completely at James‘ mercy.
Besides, in the future, she might face danger again, and Clarence wouldn’t always be able to protect her right away. So, learning some self–defense to protect herself made sense. After all, the safety he provided wouldn’t last a lifetime.
Seraphina had just finished signing up online when she received a call from Clarence. “Hey,” she answered.
Without wasting any time, he asked, “Do you know the belt colors for each level in Taekwondo?
“Huh?” Seraphina was caught off guard by the question.

“Level 10, the belt is white. Level 9, it’s white and yellow. Level 8 is yellow. Level 7 is yellow–green… The highest belt is black.”” Clarence’s tone was calm and composed as he gave her a quick rundown of Taekwondo rankings.
While Seraphina was still trying to make sense of it, he added in a serious voice, “I’m a black belt.”
She was somewhat taken aback by that and tried asking. “Are you…trying to get me to buy you a black belt?”
There was a brief silence on the other end before Clarence, sounding almost offended, replied solemnly, “What I’m telling you is that no matter how much you train in boxing, those weak little punches of yours won’t stand a chance against someone like me, a top–tier black belt.”
Seraphina was puzzled at first, but then it hit her. ‘Did he really think I’m learning boxing just to beat him up? she thought, slightly incredulous.
She couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “Pifft! Mr. Vanderbilt, you’re hilarious. Clarence narrowed his eyes, wondering why she was laughing. After all, he had been dead serious.
Though he wasn’t initially on board with Seraphina learning self–defense, when she explained it was for protection, he eventually agreed and even signed her up at the largest fitness club in Angoria, The trainer he chose for her? Top–tier, of
course.
The following day, Seraphina eagerly went for her lesson. Clarence drove her to the club’s parking lot. As she unfastened her seatbelt, she said, “Bye”
But Clarence just stared at her. Right when she reached for the car door, his hand shot out, hooking around her it Just a “bye‘?”
Seraphina looked at him in confusion. “What else am I supposed to do?”
eck. That’s
Clarence was clearly exasperated. He leaned in slightly and captured her lips, giving them a soft kiss before pulling away. “Remember, you have to kiss me.”
Seraphina pressed her lips together, thoughtful. Looking at the man who had such a cold expression yet was acting like a kid begging for candy, she couldn’t help but laugh, “Got it, Mr. Vanderbilt. She figured that no matter how mature a man seemed, there was always a playful side to him.
She got out of the car, and Clarence watched her walk all the way to the elevator before finally driving away. In the meantime, a red sports car pulled into the garage entrance. Behind the wheel was a pretty girl wearing sunglasses, her long. slightly curled hair cascading gently over her shoulders, giving her a soft yet alluring appearance.
As she drove in, Clarence’s car was pulling out from the other sice. The license plate caught the girl’s attention in her rearview mirror, and although she wasn’t paying much mind at first, she suddenly tapped the brakes lightly and glanced back. But by then, Clarence’s car had already merged into the traffic.
Seraphina was still waiting at the elevator, not sure why, but it had been stuck on one floor for a while before it finally
arrived
She stepped inside and was about to close the door when she heard a gentle voice say, “Wait for me Quickly, she the open button.
pressed.
Moments later, a figure came running over. It was the girl from the red sports car. This time, she wasn’t wearing sunglasses, and her beautiful face came fully into Seraphina’s view. Her skin was so smooth and delicate, like porcelain.
Seraphina paused for a moment, thinking that this girl was stunning, like an angel–so breathtaking that it was hard to look away. Not many girls could leave her feeling that impressed.
The girl, carrying a small bag over her shoulder, gave Seraphina slight nod as she entered the elevator, smiling warmly, Thank you Her smile was like a refreshing breeze on a spring day.

She was dressed modestly in a tank top and casual pants, stylishyet relaxed, with a presence that spoke of elegance and wealth. That kind of grace seemed to come from deep within her.
However, she didn’t come off as distant or arrogant. Instead, she had a natural warmth to her, the kind that made people feel good just seeing her cheerful smile. A strange sense of warmth bubbled up inside Seraphina, and she immediately took a liking to the girl.
“You’re welcome, Seraphina smiled back and reached out to press the floor button. “Which floor?”
The fifth the girl replied.
Seraphina pressed the button and said cheerfully, “What a coincidence. I’m going to the fifth floor as well. Are you heading to the gym?” The fifth floor was where the gym was located.
