Chapter 56
Seraphina was anxious. Her eyes reddened. “Tommy….
Just go.” Lucia stepped in front of Seraphina, giving her a subtle look. “There’s nothing you can do here.”
Seraphina understood Lucia’s unspoken message. Reflecting on the events just moments before, Lucia tried everything to stop Thomas and did her best to hold Jeremy back.
Seraphina thought. Lucia could keep Jeremy in check, and Lucia was right. Her staying here would accomplish nothing. She couldn’t fight, nor could she prevent anything from happening Most importantly, Barbara was by her side. She couldn’t let Barbara get caught in the danger.
A realization dawned on Seraphina, and she gave Lucia a slight nod. “Okay, I’ll leave Tommy in your hands,”
Lucia offered a faint smile in response.
“Let’s go.” Seraphina said, pulling Barbara along.
Jeremy had his sights set on Thomas, so he didn’t stop the two girls from leaving.
Once outside the bar, Seraphina let go of Barbara’s hand. “Barb, you should go home.”
Barbara was stunned. “Sera, aren’t you coming?
As if I could just walk away: Seraphina replied, covering her nose and taking a deep breath to keep from crying. “Barb, go home. I can’t drag you into this mess
Barbara said, “Sera, what are you saying? What mess? Since when do we stand on ceremony like this? If you’re not leaving. then neither am 1
Seraphina replied, “Barb…”
“Sera.” Barbara grabbed Seraphina’s hand firmly, her tone resolute. “No more arguing. I’m staying with you. But what do we do now?”
“The only option is to call the police,” Seraphina said. That was the reason she agreed to leave in the first place. She could not call for help from inside, surrounded by Jeremy’s people.
“Yes, yes, call the police,” Barbara quickly agreed.
Seraphina pulled out her phone and made the call.
In less than ten minutes, a police car pulled up, and two plainclothes officers stepped out.
Seraphina and Barbara approached them.
One of the officers asked, “Did you call the police?”
Seraphina nodded. “Yes.”
The two officers headed into the bar, with Seraphina and Barbara following.
Inside, Gerald’s men were wreaking havoc. The once–luxurious bar was now a complete wreck,
“Stop! One of the officers barked, flashing his badge. “Police! What do you think you’re doing?” Gerald signaled his men to halt, knowing better than to cross the police.
Chapter 56
Jeremy tilted his head and scoffed, “Oh, lady, you called the cops, huh? You know who I am, yet you still went ahead and called the police? How naive can you be?”
Seraphina stayed silent, not fully grasping what Jeremy meant.
Jeremy remained unfazed. He swaggered over to the officers and handed them his ID. “I’m Jeremy Dickens, son of Mason Dickens, the wealthiest man in Sorelia. Here’s my ID.”
One of the officers took it.
Pointing to the injury on his forehead and then at Thomas, Jeremy continued, “This guy here? He’s the one who did this. He’s Thomas Johnson, a striker for the Isle Champions football team. He encouraged his fans to assault me and my friends. Look at us. We’re all badly injured. He organized this brawl. I trust you’ll uphold the law, officers.”
The officers turned their attention to Thomas. Being the star player of the local team. Thomas was a familiar face. However, Jeremy’s status and powerful connections clearly overshadowed Thomas. The officers knew precisely what Jeremy’s words implied.
“Don’t worry, Mr., Dickens. We’ll handle this fairly, one of the officers said. Then, stepping up to Thomas, he addressed him firmly “Mr. Johnson, please come with us to the station. And kindly notify your coach to assist with investigating this brawl.”
Seraphina stood frozen. She had called the police to help Thomas, but things had taken a terrible turn. If Thomas was taken to the station and they brought in his coach, his future could be ruined. As a public figure, getting involved in a brawl would be a disaster.
The officers moved to take Thomas away, and Seraphina rushed to block their path. “Officer, he’s the one who started it, she said, pointing at Jeremy.
“Miss, we’ll get to the bottom of this. But right now, we need to take him in for questioning. Please don’t interfere,” one officer replied sternly.
Seraphina bit her lip in frustration.
“Sera, go home. Thomas said calmly. “I’ll be fine.
Seraphina thought, ‘Fine? How could you possibly be fine? If the coach learned Thomas had been involved in a fight, it would destroy his career. He could be dropped from his current team, let alone dream of joining the national squad.
But Seraphina couldn’t stop the police from doing their job. She could only watch helplessly as they took Thomas away. What was supposed to be a rescue had only made things worse.
“You were the one who started it. The three of you against Thomas. And he didn’t tell his fans to do anything. Why are you lying about him?” Seraphina spun around, glaring at Jeremy. Thinking of how this could ruin Thomas future, she was almost in tears, looking utterly pitiful.
Jeremy clicked his tongue twice, gripping his chin as he sized Seraphina up. “Miss, this is what power is. It can cover up anything. What can you do about it?”
Seraphina stayed silent. She thought, ‘Power. The son of the wealthiest man. Who could possibly stand against him?” Jeremy continued with a sneer, “You’re so pretty. Why don’t you find yourself a rich sugar daddy? Maybe he’ll be willing to throw a few million dollars to smooth things over for you, huh? His laughter was loud and mocking
Seraphina clenched her fists, unable to respond.
Pathetic, Lucia interrupted coldly
Jeremy’s laugh died instantly as he tried to win her favor. “Lucia I’m just stating the facts.”

Chapter 56
Lucia turned away, ignoring Jeremy. She said softly to Seraphins. “You’d better think of a plan”
Seraphina flashed a grateful smile at Lucia for defending her, then left with Barbara.
As they stepped outside into the dark night, Seraphina’s legs gave way, and she collapsed to the ground. Tears she had been holding back finally spilled down her cheeks. If she had known something like this would happen, she would never have suggested going to the bar. But how could anyone foresce such things
Now, Thomas was being taken to the police station, and his entire career was likely ruined. The thought of it broke Seraphina’s heart, and she couldn’t stop crying.
Barbara wrapped her arms around Seraphina, both worried and frustrated. “Sera, what are we going to do? How can we help Tommy? Does your family have any connections at the police station?”
Seraphina’s family was just an ordinary one. How could they have any influence over the police? And even if they did, it wouldn’t be enough to outweigh Jeremy’s power. To save Thomas, they would need someone with more influence than Jeremy.
Though Jeremy was the wealthiest man’s son in Sorelia, his connections ran deep, and he wielded his influence recklessly, even in Angoria. Whoever could overpower him would have to be incredibly powerful. But who could possibly stand up to Jeremy?
