“Let’s go.” Thomas said coldly, not even glancing at Lucia. He turned and walked straight into the restaurant.
Lucia stood silently, thinking. He had invited me to dinner yet acted like he was doing me a huge favor
Seraphina quickly hooked her arm through Lucia’s, trying to case the tension. “Thomas has always been like that. His EQ is seriously lacking. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have chosen soccer, right? A job that’s all brawn and doesn’t require much brainpower.
Lucia remained silent. With Seraphina making fus of Thomas like that, she couldn’t really hold a grudge.
The buffet was on the third floor, and the three entered the elevator.
Just then, Thomas received a phone call. “It’s ready… Bring it over… Im at Etoile Royale, third floor. Call when you arrive…
“Who’s coming?” Seraphina asked
“No one. Thomas replied curtly.
Seraphina sighed, thinking. He is so tight-lipped that he will have a hard time even if he wants to find
find a wife among his fans. When they arrived at the buffet, it wasn’t too crowded yet. The trio found a cozy corner to sit
down.
“What would you like? I’ll get it for you, Thomas offered.
“Not the best people skills, but still a gentleman, Seraphina chuckled. “You already know what I like.”
“Mm.” Thomas nodded, then turned to Lucia. And you?” His tone was stiff.
Lucia had no interest in being humored like this. She smiled politely. “Don’t trouble yourself. I’ll get it on my own.”
Without another word, Thomas headed off to grab food
Lucia also got up to leave.
Watching the two walk away, Seraphina suddenly realized how difficult it might be to get these two strong-willed people to bury the hatchet
Each of them picked out their food, but their tongs collided when they reached for the last sea urchin.
In terms of speed. Thomas tongs hit the sea urchin first. He pulled back and said indifferently, “It’s yours.”
“No need Lucia equally proud, retracted her tongs.
A nearby diner, seeing the opportunity, hesitated for a second before swooping in and snatching the sea urchin away. The two locked eyes, refusing to back down. Neither spoke as they waited for a fresh batch of sea urchins,
After a long silence, it was Thomas who broke the tension. “Putting aside our past issues, I do owe you a thank you f happened last night”
you for what
Lucia’s response was cool and laced with pride. “There’s no need for those two words. Consider it a good deed. I suggest you do more good in the future. Luck doesn’t always come this easily, and not everyone will be willing to help you.”
Thomas smirked slightly as his eyes briefly lowered. He had no interest in continuing the conversation.
They stood there quietly for a few minutes until the fresh sea urchins arrived. Each took a few in silence and made their way

back to the table, one after the other.
“Looks like we’ve got enough. Let’s dig in,” Seraphina said.
“Sure.” Lucia sat beside Seraphina while Thomas sat a little further away.
Seraphina noticed both of their faces were a bit strained. Did they clash again while getting food?’ she thought. ‘It’s like old. wounds haven’t healed; now they’ve added fresh ones
“Let’s eat.” Seraphina said awkwardly, trying to diffuse the tension between these two strong personalities.
The three of them ate in silence.
Seraphina subtly shot a look at Thomas, her eyes darting to the bottle of red wine on the table. She went and got it on purpose earlier. If you’re going to thank her, at least offer a toast she thought.
Thomas didn’t move, but after Séraphina kicked his foot under the table, he finally picked up the bottle. Pouring a small amount into Lucia’s glass, he raised his own glass toward her. “Ms. Gissing, here’s to you. Thanks for helping out last night.” His tone was as stiff as ever, with no hint of real gratitude.
This guy. Seraphina thought, he’s impossible.”
Lucia had never encountered such a cold-hearted man like him before, aside from Clarence. She picked up her wine glass. but didn’t immediately clink it with Thomas, Instead, she gave a small, amused smile. “We’re peers. I don’t deserve a toast from you. Unless, of course, you’re my junior. Then, I’ll gladly accept it.”
Thomas was speechless.
Seraphina was equally lost for words. She thought, ‘Maybe it’s time to give up on playing peacemaker between these two! Both were too proud, and neither intended to let bygones be bygones.
The atmosphere grew awkward until Seraphina raised her glass and inserted it between theirs with a forced smile. ‘Happy
weekend.
Thomas and Lucia remained silent and drank their wine out of respect for Seraphina.
The meal continued in a strained silence.
Thomas barely spoke, leaving most of the conversation to Seraphina and Lucia, who occasionally commented on the food. The tension was palpable.
Partway through, Seraphina excused herself to the restroom. As she stood, she shot Thomas a warning look, silently telling him not to start any fights while she was gone.
Thomas remained indifferent.
With Seraphina gore, only the two adversaries were left sitting in silence..
Thomas put down his fork and reached into his pocket for a pack of cigarettes. The moment Lucia saw it, her brow furrowed. There’s a lady present. You can’t smoke. Don’t you know? It’s the most basic courtesy for a gentleman.”
Thomas glanced at Lucia and smirked as he toyed with the cigarette pack. His demeanor took on a playful, rebellious edge. You should know by now. I’m no gentleman. I’m a rogue.”
Lucia’s expression froze, then she scoffed, “Even rogues are still men, aren’t they? And if you’re a man, you should know how to respect women. Unless, of course, you’re not a man.”
Thomas’ eyes narrowed. He flipped the pack open with a single finger, smoothly pulling out a cigarette and placing it between his lips, his smile growing more mischievous. He looked like a bad boy straight off a movie poster.

“Whether I’m not isn’t something you can tell with words, he said, voice low and provocative. “It’s something you

prove with actions.”
Lucia glared at Thomas, her cheeks flushed with anger. “You really are a rogue.” She bit out, her teeth clenched in frustration.
Thomas kept his smirk without responding. Just then, his phone rang. He took the cigarette out of his mouth and answered. “Yeah… I’ll meet you at the entrance. Then, he hung up and left the table without saying anything to Lucia.
Lucia stared at Thomas’ retreating figure, speechless. She thought. “He isn’t just a clueless guy. This is pure rudeness. No one had ever treated her with such blatant disregard. She stabbeil her fork into several slices of salmon and stuffed them into her mouth, fuming. Why did I even come to this dinner? I’m not eating food. I’m eating frustration.”
A few minutes later, Thomas returned, holding a bag. Without a word, he dropped it into Lucia’s lap. His tone was as indifferent as ever. “Here. This is yours.”
Lucia blinked in confusion.
Your dress and sunglasses, Thomas added, clarifying. “Brand new. I’m returning them to you.”
Lucia stared at Thomas, speechless once again. The memory of his comment last night about “second-hand’ flashed through her mind, and the way he tossed the bag into her lap now made it feel more like a dismissal than a gesture of goodwill. It was as if he was rewarding her.
