Lucia, fuming, threw the bag back into Thomas‘ arms and said coldly, “So what if it’s new? It’s still outdated junk. Take it back. I don’t care for it anymore.”
“That’s your problem.” Thomas tossed the bag back at her.
Lucia prepared to throw it again, but Thomas caught her wrist midair. “Last night, you were the one who demanded compensation. If you want to toss it, the trash can is over there.
Lucia was exasperated. As she tried to pull her wrist free, a booming voice suddenly echoed out of nowhere, “Let go of my daughter.”
A gust of cold wind swept over, and Lucia’s other wrist was grabbed, pulling her to her feet.
Lucia looked up at the newcomer in surprise. “Dad?”
It was Kemp who had pulled Lucia up, his face tense with hostility as he glared at Thomas like he was staring down a mortal
enemy.
Kemp thought, ‘So this is the idiot that trying to steal my beautiful daughter. He sized Thomas up. Well… He isn’t that great. Nowhere near good enough for my precious daughter. His eyes were full of disdain and anger. “Are you Thomas Johnson?” Though unsure of what was happening. Thomas answered calmly, “Yes.”
Kemp scoffed. “Are you my daughter’s boyfriend?”
Thomas didn’t reply. He glanced at Lucia.
Lucia looked at Kemp, utterly shocked. She thought, “When did ever say that? She screamed, “Dad!”
“You don’t need to speak Kemp cut Lucia off, scrutinizing Thomas from head to toe. “Don’t think you’re qualified to date my daughter just because you have a flashy face.”
Thomas said flatly, “Sir, you’re mistaken.”
“Dad, let me explain. Lucia wanted to crawl into a hole. It was bad enough that Thomas had already acted superior before her, and now her father had mistaken him for her boyfriend. She couldn’t be more embarrassed..
But Kemp wouldn’t listen, looking at Lucia with heartbreak. “My dear, out of all the men with good prospects, you chose this one? He looks like nothing more than a musclehead. Have you lost your mind up there in the clouds?”
Both Lucia and Thomas were speechless.

“I wish it were just a misunderstanding Kemp cut Thomas off, slamming the table. He was furious. “If I hadn’t…hadn’t seen your chat history with Lucia, I wouldn’t have believed she’d choose a penniless, no–name, no–image guy like you as her boyfriend”
Thomas let out a faint, cold smile, glancing indifferently at Lucia Sweetheart, are you still staying for dinner?”
Lucia thought. He was doing it on purpose.
As expected, Kemp grew even more furious. “What sweetheart? Who gave you permission to call my daughter that?”
By now, people around them had started watching. The scene was becoming too embarrassing.

Lucia grabbed her bag and pulled Kemp’s arm. “Dad, let’s take this outside
“Fine, we’ll talk outside. Kemp relented, realizing they were drawing attention. After all, as a well–known director, he had a public image to maintain.
Kemp sat on the flower bed outside the restaurant, wiping tears as he lamented to Lucia, heartbroken. “Lucia, it wasn’t easy for your mom and me to raise you into the wonderful woman you are today. You’re beautiful, smart, and kind, with a career and family background everyone envies. You could have any man you wanted, but you choose a weed like him?
“You’ve broken my heart. You’re a lovely flower and want to plant yourself in a pile of cow dung. No, he’s not even cow dung. At least cow dung has nutrients. What does he have? He’s ugly and sloppy, and he even smokes.
“Lucia, my heart is in pieces. Your mother’s still overseas. She doesn’t know about this. If she did, she’d be absolutely livid.” Lucia muttered, “Mom said I could date whoever I wanted–
“When did she say that?” Kemp looked up, his eyes red from crying. “She meant whoever has some standards, not to go blind and pick anything that moves.”
Lucia said. He’s not my boyfriend.”
“Don’t lie to me,” Kemp said, pouting in pain. “I saw boyfriend?”

Kemp went on and on, lamenting for what felt like an eternity, insisting that Lucia immediately confront Thomas and break up with him.
Lucia had already embarrassed herself enough. What would it look like if she went back in there and said, “Let’s break up“? She could only imagine the laughter that would follow. How pathetic was it that her father met a guy and immediately declared him her boyfriend?
But Lucia also knew Kemp’s character. Once he set his mind on something, it was nearly impossible to change it, especially when it came to her love life.
He guarded her like a hawk, treating every boy around her like a potential thief, which was why Lucia, at the age of twenty- two, had never experienced first love. No boy could get close to her at all.
Kemp continued, “After all my precautions, I still let this little pe get close to you. It hurts me so much, Lucia. You have to break up with him. This guy looks wild and reckless. He won’t cherish you. He’s not worthy of you.”
“Alright, I’ll break up with him, I’ll break up with him.” Lucia finally couldn’t take any more of Kemp’s nagging and surrendered. “I’ll go in and break up with him right now,” She thought, What does pride matter? I’m tired of feeling so
stressed.
Kemp instantly shifted from “ears” to smiles, grabbing Lucia’s hand like a child who just got a candy, his face beaming with joy Tet’s go together. I’ll supervise you.”
Lucia was speechless. She had only wanted to pretend to break up with Thomas, go in for a moment, then come right back out. But now, Kemp wanted to follow her inside.
She thought, “Having a dad like this is truly a headache. Well, whatever. If I’m going to embarrass myself, it might as well be the last time. From now on, I won’t have any contact with that bit again!
