Chapter 70
“Clarry, just heard they have Kobe beef today. It’s been ages since I’ve had any.” Catherine said, snuggling up to Clarence as she realized he was staying. Her eyes darted towards Seraphina, gleaming with a victor’s pride.
Between the two of them, Clarence always chose Catherine. Seraphina’s presence now seemed reduced to that of a prop, existing only to highlight Catherine’s triumph.
“Mr. Gissing. I should get going. Goodbye. Seraphina interjected.
“Alright.” Kemp waved, “Sera, don’t forget to think over my proposal
Seraphina nodded and tumed to leave.
Bye-bye. Sera. Catherine called out, feigning familiarity
Seraphina hesitated for a moment before continuing on her way. Catherine’s farewell was nothing more than a declaration
of victory.
She could walk arm-in-arm with Clarence in public, while Seraphina had to pretend they were strangers.
Seraphina left, and Clarence didn’t say a word. Fighting back tears, she hurried out of the restaurant.
Kemp pointed to a table by the window. “Clarence, why don’t you and Catherine take a seat? I’ll join you after I wrap things up here Frank should be ready soon too.”
Clarence gently shook off Catherine’s grip and took a seat. After a moment’s hesitation, Catherine slid into the chair beside
Clarence’s eyes were fixed on the scene outside. Seraphina stood at the curb, arm outstretched for a cab. As one pulled up. she got in without a backward glance. Though he couldn’t make out her face, her slumped shoulders spoke volumes.
Clarence’s eyelids lowered slightly. His subtle reaction didn’t escape Catherine’s notice. She picked up a menu, glancing at Clarence. ‘Clarry, what would you like to eat?
Clarence slowly turned his head, his gaze cool as it settled on Catherine. “Catherine. I came here to ask you something.”
“What is it?” Catherine smiled at him.
Clarence’s expression remained frosty. “That night at Graceful Manor, was it you who answered my phone!
Catherine froze, caught off guard. She parted her lips slightly, instinctively wanting to deny it. But Clarence’s calm, penetrating stare made her feel as if he could see right through any lie she might tell
Catherine’s heart sank. Lowering her eyes briefly, she put on an apologetic look. “Clarence, that night was actually a misunderstanding. I saw your door was open, so I came in. I just wanted to say goodnight to you.
“Just then, your phone rang. I… I didn’t mean to answer it. I was only trying to silence it, but somehow I accidentally hit the
answer button.”
“Doesn’t that sound a bit far-fetched? Clarence cut Catherine off “Why would you even try to silence my phone in the first -place
Catherine fumbled for words, caught off guard. His sharp response cut deep. He’d never spoken to her with such coldness. before. It felt like a s***er punch to the gut.
“… I’m so sorry,” Catherine stammered, fighting back tears. “Tegar i didn’t mean

Take care of yourself, Elarence interrupted, his voice sharp. “Mind your own business.”
Catherine fell silent, stunned. My own business? Right. She understood now. She was nothing more than a friend to him.. Just an outsider who needed to back off.
Clarence had always been sharp, and now he’d caught a glimpse of her true feelings. Just as she’d dreaded, the moment he sensed her emotions, he’d gone cold. This was exactly why she’d never confessed. She was terrified of losing even the crumbs of his friendly affection. Now, at the first hint of her deeper feelings, he’d shut her down without mercy.
The truth hit her like a ton of bricks. He really did see her as nothing more than a good friend. All his care, protection, and rushing to her side were just a friendly obligation, nothing more
She knew all too well that the girl he pretended not to know in public was the one who really had his heart.
“Focus on your acting. Clarence said as he stood up and left..
Catherine sat there, stunned into silence. At last, the tears came, dropping onto her dressing table.
Catherine realized that it didn’t matter if she outshone Seraphina a million times over. She didn’t even have the right to ask Clarence to stay.
The closest she’d ever get to him was a friendly arm-in-arm walk. Seraphina was the one who got to kiss him, hold him, and be with him in every way that mattered.
Catherine’s decade-long devotion had crumbled to dust. Her hands, resting on the table, clenched into tight fists. The tears in her eyes gave way to a steely glint.
The taxi’s brakes screeched, piercing the air.
Seraphina lurched forward, then slammed back into her seat, caught by the seatbelt.
A sleek Maybach had cut them off, arrogantly blocking their path. Seraphina recognized it instantly. It was Clarence’s ride.
“Son of a-The taxi driver was about to curse, but he fell silent when he saw the imposing and prestigious license plate. “Damn lucky we didn’t hit it, he muttered under his breath.
Even though Clarence had cut them off, if they’d collided, it would’ve been considered the taxi’s fault for rear-ending. Just a scratch on that car would cost a fortune to fix.
And it wasn’t just any car – it was Clarence’s. Everyone in Angoria knew what that special license plate meant.
Some fights weren’t worth picking. The driver was about to turn the wheel and steer clear of the luxury vehicle when Seraphina reached for her phone to pay. I’m getting out here,” she said.
She settled the fare, stepped out of the taxi, and walked straight to Clarence’s car. Without hesitation, she opened the passenger door and got in.
The taxi driver, who hadn’t even pulled away yet, was left completely speechless. So that’s why the car came racing up-to intercept the girl, he pondered. ‘Is she Mr. Vanderbilt’s girlfriend? She’s gorgeous, so it must be her. Looks like they’re in the middle of a fight, though. But even if young lovers are quarreling, it shouldn’t almost turn into such a mess…
Seraphina knew Clarence had come to cut her off. She had no choice but to get in the car. His bold move was a gamble, but it sent a flutter through Seraphina’s heart. He had come after her, after all.
Just as Seraphina fastened her seatbelt, Clarence reached over and took her hand. The warmth of his palm seeped into her skin

Seraphina looked at Clarence. He gazed back at her, the corner of his mouth lifting slightly in a tender smile.
They rode in silence, but the atmosphere in the car was charged with a sweet tenderness. His actions spoke louder than words-Clarence had come after her. This time, he had chosen her.
Back at the villa, passion inevitably consumed them. Clarence kissed Seraphina’s back, his hand resting on her waist. He gave her a gentle squeeze. “Have you been skipping your workouts lately?”
Jennifer was away and Seraphina was alone. Seraphina had indeed been a bit lazy. She pouted, “It’s only been a few days since I’ve been to the gym. I couldn’t have gained weight that quickly. What, are you complaining?”
Clarence nuzzled her neck, his voice low and teasing. “A little extra softness is nice, actually.”
Seraphina was at a loss for words.
