Chapter 3
Ethan glanced at me and casually said, “Don’t talk nonsense, Ava is the one who wants to be a violinist.” He didn’t clarify whether they were a good match or not. We are the engaged couple, but he only said that Ava is the one who wants to be a violinist.
How was I so blind before? I was always wearing a blindfold in my heart, loving Ava all along.
Ava bit her lip and looked at me, saying, “Evelyn, don’t listen to them talking nonsense. They’re just used to joking around, don’t take it seriously. By the way, this is the gift I got for you. Take a look and see if you like it.”
She handed me a jewelry box, and when I opened it, I saw a pair of earrings that looked somewhat familiar. I looked up at Ava, who was wearing a sapphire necklace around her neck.
I was stunned for a moment. This sapphire necklace was custom–made by Ethan according to my preferences. It had been in production for six months and was going to be given to me at the engagement ceremony, as a sincere gesture of his intention to marry me.
When it was being customized, the designer said there would be some broken gemstones, so why not make an earring out of it, as a gift.
Now, the engagement necklace was around Ava’s neck, but the gift was in my hands, and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Ethan’s friend took a disdainful look at me and whispered mockingly, “Only you would treasure a free gift.”
One of the girls in the room exclaimed, “Ava, your necklace was really beautiful.‘
Ava caressed the necklace and looked at Ethan, saying, “This was a welcome gift from Ethan. He said he would give me an even more beautiful one when we celebrate after the concert.”
I exclaimed, “Wow, Ethan really went all out! This necklace was custom–cut using the heirloom of the Carter family, and it took six months to make. It was meant to be passed down to the daughter–in–law of the Carter family. Ethan really cares about you.”
Ethan’s face turned a bit embarrassed, and the perceptive people present also knew that something was not right. The scene suddenly quieted down.
The family heirloom was supposed to be given to my future wife, but Ethan, in front of me, his fiancée, gave it to Ava. The significance behind this act was self–evident.
Ava stood awkwardly, her hand still touching the necklace. Her eyes immediately turned red, and she lowered her head to take off the necklace. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know it was meant for Evelyn. I wasn’t supposed to wear it. How could I be so careless…”
After speaking, tears had already fallen, hands were trembling, and the necklace couldn’t be taken

off, entangled with a strand of hair. She forcefully snapped the hair, her voice starting to choke, “Ethan, please help me take it off.”
Ethan was heartbroken, holding her hand tightly. “When I said it’s for you, it’s yours. Don’t worry about what others say.‘
Then he turned his head and glared at me fiercely, saying, “Just a sapphire, and I never knew you were so shallow, making such an ugly face over a piece of stone.”
“This sapphire was originally meant for me. I can give it to whoever I want. You haven’t even proposed to me, so don’t think you are the owner of this necklace. I said it suits Ava better, so it belongs to Ava.”
“I had already agreed to get engaged to you, so it doesn’t matter if I have this necklace or not. Anyway, I have already agreed to marry you, so what else are you unsatisfied with?”
Ava smiled with tears in her eyes and said, “Really? On the day of the concert, I happened to wear a blue evening gown that matches this perfectly. Thank you, Ethan. Over the years, only you have understood what I like.”
I stood up and said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything else. I was just admiring your feelings for Ava. Don’t be too sensitive.” After finishing speaking, I pushed the jewelry box over and said, “These earrings are made from scraps, but they are still a family heirloom of the Carter family. It’s a set, so I’ll give them to you.”
