Chapter 4
Ava bit her lip and said, “Evelyn, even though Ethan said the necklace was for me, I know it’s your engagement gift. Don’t worry, I’ll give it back to you after I finish the concert, okay?”
Ethan’s friend chimed in, “Shut up, Evelyn. It’s just a necklace, why do you wear the long face? Look at how awkward you’ve made the atmosphere. Are you only happy when everyone else is unhappy?”
“Yeah, is the Harris family going bankrupt? It’s embarrassing how you shamelessly demanded the Carter family’s heirloom.”
This is Ethan’s good buddy. Every time I was with Ethan, they would sarcastically mock me, saying that I was not good enough for Ethan.
Ava said in a sweet voice, “Don’t treat Evelyn like this, even though she doesn’t know Ethan, I think if we often play together in the future, she won’t misunderstand anymore.”
Ethan looked at me coldly and said, “If you’re not happy, then don’t come. Why bother ruining everyone’s appetite?”
I stood up and said, “Well, I’m leaving now.” Before leaving the private room, I added, “By the way, your guest room is ready, but I was wondering if Ava might find it too small. How about giving her the master bedroom instead? She would be more comfortable there.”
Ethan frowned, “What do you mean ‘my family’s guest room‘? Isn’t that our home? As my fiancee, you need to change this habit of sulking whenever you’re unhappy. Will you continue to behave like this when you marry into our family? Who would like you?”
I laughed and said, “Marry into your family? The engagement ceremony has been canceled, let’s talk about getting married later.”
Ethan noticed that my face didn’t look right and grabbed me by the arm, saying, “What’s going on with you? Why is the engagement ceremony canceled? Just because of this necklace? Didn’t I say it was just postponed?”
I was in a deadlock when my phone rang. I answered the call and it was Caleb. “Evelyn, the designer wants to know if you prefer a pearl or a diamond tiara on your wedding dress.”
I thought about the buttons on his wedding suit, and I said, “Pearls.”
Ethan, “What bridal tiara? Oh, Evelyn, how shameless you are! You even had a wedding dress custom–made to pressure me into marriage?”
Ava covered her mouth, looking gloomy. “Ethan, are you getting married?”
Ethan looked at me with disgust and said, “Evelyn, I want you to understand one thing, I only
agreed to get engaged to you, I didn’t agree to get married. Don’t think that using those tricks will make me comply.”
Chapter 4
“Do you want to wear a wedding dress to pressure someone into marriage at the engagement banquet? Are you unable to get married? Is being desperate to get married making you like this?”
I struggled to break free from him, saying, “Let go of me, Ethan. That was my wedding dress, what does it have to do with you?”
Ethan sneered, “Your wedding dress? Who else can you marry besides me? These past few years, you’ve been constantly pressuring me to get married. Let me tell you, I agreed to the engagement to
save face for our parents. Don’t push your luck.”
The door of the compartment was pushed open, “Let her go.”
Everyone looked toward the door, it was Caleb.
He came over quickly, holding the phone in his hand. He grabbed Ethan’s hand and rescued my arm from his grip. He gently asked me, “Are you okay?”
I shook my head, he was tall in stature, and when he protected me, I felt safe, just like nestling in
his arms.
He lightly embraced my shoulder and said, “Why are you making baseless accusations about my fiancee? As for our wedding, what kind of wedding dress she will wear, what kind of crown she will
put on her head, as long as she is happy, it’s all that matters. You, an ex–boyfriend, why do you meddle so much? Aren’t you afraid of making your current lover jealous?”
