Chapter 7
Ethan’s parents rushed over from behind and stopped him, saying, “Ethan, what are you trying to do? Even if you’re going crazy, you should find a proper occasion. Today is the engagement of the Cooper family and the Harris family, what are you doing?”
Ava explained, “No, Mr. and Mrs. Carter, Ethan had always been preparing to get engaged to Evelyn, but something came up and it was temporarily canceled. Unexpectedly, Evelyn got engaged to another man without saying a word. Evelyn, have you ever thought about Ethan’s feelings? You’ve been together for so many years. How could you do such a thing?”
I burst into laughter and stared at her, “Ava, don’t you know the reason behind Ethan canceling the engagement three times? And now you’re pretending to be clueless and questioning me? What right do you have?”
“The first time we got engaged, you said you fell ill abroad and missed him. He left behind a room full of guests and me, and went abroad to be with you.”
“The second time, on the day of your engagement, you said you wanted to go on a solo trip to relax, implying that you were not in a good mood about Ethan’s proposal, and he followed you again.”
“The third time, you scheduled your solo concert on the day I got engaged to him. Your intentions were known to the whole world. Now you ask me why? Why don’t you ask yourself, if you don’t love him and don’t want to marry him, why do you enjoy keeping a man as a backup?”
Ava’s face turned pale, she took a step back, tears filling her eyes as she covered her mouth, “I didn’t mean to, I really didn’t, I didn’t intend to ruin your relationship with Ethan.”
Ethan’s eyes were ablaze, as he looked at me in disbelief, “You said that I was the one you loved, why would you suddenly get engaged to Caleb?”
I laughed and said, “I loved you, and only loved you, but I got tired and stopped loving you. Isn’t it normal? I’m in love with someone else now, and anyway, you’ve always loved someone else. Isn’t it better if we split up and go our separate ways?”
Ethan got angry and said, “I did not agree to break up.”
Caleb stood in front of me and said, “Evelyn just informed you, she didn’t ask for your agreement. Do you really want to reveal everything you have done in front of everyone?”
Then he looked at me and said, “Evelyn, let’s go ahead and toast.”
Ethan grabbed me from behind, “Evelyn, I didn’t allow you to be with other men.”
Caleb landed a heavy punch on his face. “Did I give you face? I tolerated you earlier because of your parents, but now I’m hitting you because you don’t know any better.”
Oliver Carter, Ethan’s father, looked apologetic and said, “I’m sorry, I will take Ethan away

immediately.”
Then he grabbed Ethan by the collar and said, “Have you had enough of your mischief? You have been acting recklessly, and now you want to embarrass me completely, is that what makes you happy?”
Ava stepped forward and supported Ethan, saying, “Mr. Carter, it really wasn’t Ethan’s fault. It was Evelyn, she was too much.”
I turned back and took a step forward, saying, “I can’t compare to you. As a single woman, knowing that Ethan is about to get engaged, you still went home with him and slept in the master bedroom of the new house wearing the bride’s nightgown, which is even more disgusting.”
“What? Is this how the Anderson family’s upbringing was? You are known as a proper lady and renowned violinist? Do your audience know that you were a mistress in private?”
My words hit her face like a loud slap, and she took a step back. The guests nearby started to discuss, “We just can’t stand her pretending to be pitiful every time.”
“Shameless! Constantly pestering Ethan, yet not expressing any liking for him, just stringing him along.”
“Yeah, how shameless she is, going to someone else’s new house to flirt and seduce. Oh my, the Anderson family really raised a good daughter.”
