Chapter 11 (Terrance’s Perspective)
Since that day, when Terrance came back from work, he never spoke again.
The blinds were closed for three days, and the light couldn’t squeeze into the dim room.
Missed calls on the phone occupied the screen.
He didn’t click on it.
Time seemed to have pressed the pause button on him.
Terrance sat there, with his head hanging down, lifeless.
He still remembered the man’s cold tone when he took Elliana away.
He said, “All of us were hoping that she would survive. Mr. Wilkerson is truly an iron–fisted leader, effortlessly rendering all of our efforts in vain.”
Alma was stopped by the security guard outside, shouting at him, “Terrance, do you know that she will have a seizure if she doesn’t take her medication? Locking her up is no different from murder!”
Depression.
Mental hospital.
These nouns, like countless sharp thorns, ruthlessly stirred up into a cluster in his mind, fiercely tugging at his nerves.
Luke knocked on the door and finally pushed it open a crack, standing at the doorway. “Hey, bro, are you feeling better?”
“Why?”
Terrance’s voice was hoarse, and the dull pain in his chest made him feel unbearable.
Luke fell silent for a moment and said, “I’m sorry, at that time I thought it wasn’t necessary to
check, so…”
“Is the information fake?” Terrance’s voice was soft. “Luke, when you told me that she had changed several boyfriends abroad, Elliana, she was actually locked up in Vertdeer Psychiatric Hospital.”
“Sorry, bro, I didn’t know.”
This explanation was feeble and powerless.

He knew he couldn’t blame Luke entirely, even if he had asked a few more questions, maybe it wouldn’t have turned out like this.
Terrance no longer had the energy to listen to Luke’s rebuttal
Alma pushed open the door, disregarding the secretary’s obstruction.
The glaring light made Terrance squint his eyes, but it did not stop him.
The secret apologized repeatedly.
“Sorry, Mr. Wilkerson, I wasn’t paying attention.”
“Go out,” Terrance said.
The secretary carefully closed the door for them, and the room returned to darkness.
Alma just stood there, seemingly unwilling to have any connection with him.
“Mr. Wilkerson, there are some things that can be said now.”
The window was slightly opened, and the cold wind chilled to the bone.
Terrance sat there, unmoving, just listening quietly.
If you did something wrong, you would always face consequences.
Sooner or later.
“Last year, when Elliana celebrated her birthday, I jokingly asked her who she liked the most in the
world.”
“She said, the first one was mom, and the second one was Terrance.”
Terrance closed his eyes and felt a chill run through his bones as he heard those words.
“… At that time, her illness had just improved. She only needed to take a small piece of medicine every day to be like a normal person.”
So this year,
in order to help Aunt tidy up her belongings, I brought her back.
Alma’s eyes welled up with tears. “She always said that our breakup back then was so undignified. This time, she wants to meet you again properly, even if it’s just from a distance, to catch a glimpse of her successful businessman. Because she knows she’s not worthy of you anymore…”
“Terrance, was she not worthy of you?”
