Chapter 7
Edwin was completely helpless in daily life.
So for years, I was the one taking care of everything for him.
The glamorous Dr. Leach? Behind the scenes, it was all my hard work.
The clothes he wore on secret dates with Tiara? I picked them out.
The lunch he brought her? I made it for him at dawn.
He really could not live without a “nanny” as good as me.
I looked at him and sneered.
“Edwin, that night you asked me what I wanted to say. I will tell you now.
“I want to say that I don’t love you anymore. I want to break up.
“You said you would agree to anything I asked. I hope you meant it.”
With that, I turned and walked away without hesitation.
For the next month, Edwin did not bother me.
I threw myself into my new job.
I stayed busy every day.
My senior colleague and I worked together seamlessly.
Maybe it was the pleasant climate in Aelford, but even my mood had improved.
Until I ran into Tiara…
I had just finished my night shift when I saw Tiara standing in front of me, looking smug.
“Jaliyah, I want to talk to you.”
She wore sunglasses, but anyone observant enough would notice the dark circles under her eyes.
She did not say anything about it, and I had no reason to care.
We sat down at a café near the hospital.
Tiara leaned back in her chair, a smirk on her lips.
“Jaliyah, has Edwin come looking for you?
“He just doesn’t want to lose someone who takes care of him. Don’t worry, I will make suve k Chapter 7
well taken care of. I hope you two never see each other again.”
Since the breakup had been clean, I no longer felt the need to put up with Tiara.
“Tiara, keep your man in check. I have no interest in seeing either of you again.”
Seeing how indifferent I was, she relaxed her brows and smiled.
“Good. You’d better keep your word.”
Iyawned. “Ms. Rangel, can I go rest now?”
Just as I was about to stand up, a strong hand pushed me back into my seat.
A hoarse voice spoke, “Jaliyah, why are you ignoring me? Do you know what this past month has been like for me?”
Edwin’s eyes were full of exhaustion.
I had changed my phone number the moment Edwin left.
Since I have decided to cut ties with the past, I should not hold on to any lingering thoughts.
I struggled to break free, glaring at him.
“Edwin, why should I care? You and Tiara really are a perfect match. I have already stepped aside, so why do you keep haunting me?”
Tiara immediately clung to his arm, whining, “Edwin, did you come to pick me up? I cannot stand another second staying here.”
I looked at her with pure disdain.
“I do not have a habit of stealing other people’s boyfriends. You two enjoy your glamorous world of fame and fortune. No need to suffer here.”
I could not be bothered to waste another word on them. I turned to leave, but Edwin yanked me into his arms.
His hand gently touched my face, his eyes filled with love.
“Jaliyah, I have spent this whole month thinking about our seven years together. We were so in love, so happy. Can you really be this heartless?
“You always said I was too clumsy to take care of myself, and that you would stay by my side forever.
“You envied couples who worked together, and you said you wanted us to do that too.”
Watching him, his eyes red as he spoke, I turned my face away.
Chapter 7
“Edwin, it has been seven years. That was just you convincing yourself. I am tired. I don’t want to
stay by your side anymore. I am exhausted, and I don’t want to wait for you anymore.
“Did you ever realize that your happiness was built on my suffering?”
The light in his eyes dimmed.
But his grip on me tightened. Then, out of nowhere, he burst into a twisted laugh.
“Jaliyah, do not even think about it.
“I don’t care if you are suffering. I will not let
you leave.”
Before I could react, he suddenly grabbed me and kissed me right in front of Tiara.
I struggled, and Tiara rushed forward to pull him away.
Suddenly, Edwin slapped her.
Her sunglasses fell to the ground, and for the first time, I saw her bruised face.
Tiara ignored her pain and quickly pushed me away from him.
Edwin pointed at her.
He shouted, “You bitch! This is all because of you! If it weren’t for you, Jaliyah and I would have been married by now!
“Tiara, I don’t want you anymore. Do you understand? Get lost! Do not interfere in my marriage!
“Tiara, if I can’t have Jaliyah, then you will not have it easy either.”
Edwin looked like a completely different person.
He was furious and unstable, looking nowhere near the gentleman he used to be.
Then he tilted his head, looking at my terrified expression, and stepped forward, trying hard to force a smile.
“Jaliyah, look, I bought you this ring. Here is my house deed, my bank card, my household registration, and…”
He laid out everything he thought was valuable in front of me.
His smile grew more and more deranged. “Jaliyah, take these, and let’s get married, okay?”
I forced myself to stay calm and looked him straight in the eye.
“Edwin, no.”
