“What’s the problem? You don’t trust me?” Yasmine arched an eyebrow, challenging him.
Yonas shook his head. “Of course, I trust you. I’ve never doubted your professionalism. It’s just that…” He wanted to stop what might happen next. For instance, Yasmine might choose to leave him after learning the truth. But Yonas would never share these thoughts with her.
Yasmine knew Yonas too well to see him worry like this without good reason. She thought, ‘Is he worrying about those odd photos? Or maybe the drawing by Yoselin?
Even knowing Yonas might not give her an answer, Yasmine felt the need to ask, “Why won’t you tell me?”
Yonas paused, a bit surprised. “I’m sorry, I can’t,” he replied. He couldn’t answer without coming up with a reason.
Yasmine scoffed, “Is it because of Teresa’s situation? Or maybe when Yoselin had that incident in front of the school and you hesitated? I’m sure you don’t trust the online rumors, but I just can’t think of any reason you’d stop Yoselin’s treatment, especially given how serious her condition is now.”
Yonas wasn’t sure how to respond, but he knew he had to stay serious. “Yasmine, it’s not the right time yet, I just…”
“Timing, timing,” Yasmine repeated, “It’s your go–to excuse, from the beginning till now. So much time has passed, and the right moment never arrives. How long will you keep deceiving me?” Yasmine stared at Yonas, no longer wanting to believe his promises.
Yasmine’s expression grew cold as she looked away. “Ms. White, I need to discuss something with Mr. Russell,” she said. Their eyes locked, a silent tension between them. Irene never imagined running into Yasmine in Yonas’s office.
Yonas stood there awkwardly, watching the two. With Irene’s unexpected arrival, he was torn between relief and annoyance. Moments before she stepped in, he was still figuring out how to respond to Yasmine’s questions.”
The three remained in awkward silence, exchanging glances until Yasmine finally spoke up. “Since Ms. White is here to have lunch with Mr. Russell, I shouldn’t interrupt,” Yasmine remarked.
As she turned to leave, Yonas quickly stepped in front of her. “Yasmine,” he said, stopping her.
“What else do you need, Mr. Russell?” Yasmine asked, feeling his large hand trembling as it held her wrist. She fought the urge to pull away.
In a flash, Yonas regained his cool, his icy gaze sending a chill through him. “Don’t go,” he urged.
He hadn’t seen Yasmine in ages and knew she was tired of him. If it weren’t for Yoselin, she’d never have

Irene’s eyes were ice–cold as she spoke. “Yonas, if Ms. Sanchez is in such a hurry to leave, she must have other important things to do. Let her go.”
Yasmine gave a gentle look and said, “Mr. Russell, I’ve got nothing else. I should be heading out now.” Without waiting for Yonas to reply, she walked away without looking back.

With excitement bubbling in her voice, Irene exclaimed, “Yonas, give this steak a try! I ordered it today and it’s even better than the Kobe steak we had in Japan.”
Yonas picked up his knife and fork, cut a piece of steak casually, and put it in his mouth. It was indeed tasty.
Trying to sound casual, Irene asked, “Yonas, what did Ms. Sanchez want to discuss with you today?”
Yonas frowned slightly and replied, “There’s no need to share such personal matters with you.”

Yonas put down his knife and fork, looking at her calmly. “Actually, there is something I need your help with,” he said.
“Well, just say the word, Yonas,” Irene replied.
Yonas’s cold smirk lingered. “Just keep calm, that’s all I need from you.”
Irene’s smile suddenly froze, and she shivered a little, forcing out a weak smile. “What are you saying, Yonas?” she asked.
Yonas popped another piece of steak into his mouth and said, “Nothing much.”
After the meal, Irene wiped her mouth, thinking the food was flavorless. She hadn’t mentioned the engagement in days, but Yasmine’s showing up today had thrown all her plans into chaos Now, she couldn’t hold back anymore.
“Yonas, Grandpa’s been asking yet again. When can we get engaged?” Irene asked.
Yonas’s complex feelings were plain to see now. With a stormy face, he got back into the car and didn’t say a word to Irene the whole way home. As he dropped her off, his icy expression seemed to melt a bit. “Just go inside,” Yonas said.

“Yoselin,” Yonas called out. His face was stern as he walked slowly toward her, and then something unexpected occurred.
Yoselin was quietly looking at something when her face suddenly turned pale. She stared at Yonas, as if she’d lost her senses. “Get out. Get out, you can’t harm me!” she exclaimed.
“Yoselin, it’s me,” Yonas said.
“Get out. Get out,” shouted Yoselin, hurling the sketchbook in her hand at Yonas with all her strength, throwing whatever she could find at him in panic. She curled up in fear, watching Yonas warily as he came closer.
Yonas suddenly recalled what Yasmine had mentioned earlier: Yoselin couldn’t needed proper care.
