Chapter 15
I was surprised at Tanner’s swift apology. His arrogance seemed to have vanished, which only made me look down on him even more.
I studied his face. A bizarre plan took form in my mind.
Shocked at his apology, Maisie looked at him in disbelief. “Tanner, how could you apologize to her? She put you through all that suffering!”
I taunted him, “Are you struggling now because I no longer want to be taken advantage of? Is that why you’re trying to return to my side? What about her?”
I pointed a finger at Maisie.
After a moment of hesitation, Tanner came to a decision. “There’s nothing between me and Maisie! It was all a misunderstanding!”
Maisie’s eyes bulged out in shock. “Tanner, what did you just say?”
I interjected, “I’ll think about it.”
Joy returned to his face. “For real?”
“But there’s one condition: never let me see you hanging out with Maisie again!”
Thinking I was still in love with him and was merely acting out due to jealousy, he eagerly agreed to my condition. He needed to bail out his dad and get back to his previously glamorous lifestyle.
Maisie watched as he stepped into my Rolls-Royce. I saw the thick envy and resentment in her eyes.
But this was just the start. I clearly recalled the way the couple treated me in my past life, and I wanted to drive them crazy before getting rid of them.
Soon, everyone in the school heard about the news that I made up with Tanner. They gasped in awe when he emerged from my Rolls-Royce in the morning. “You gotta give some credit to Tanner’s skills!”
“He has a way of getting Pearl’s attention. You can only envy him.”
“Oh, how I wish a heiress would fall for me!”
Lexie Lockhart, who sat beside me in class, came over to advise me, “Tanner isn’t a good guy. Why are you back with him?”
I assured her, “It’s fine. I know what I’m doing!”
Lexie shot me a disappointed look.
At that moment, Leanne leaned over. “Hey, girls! Have you heard about the news of hooligans hanging around the school area? You have to look out!” “Eh? I thought the security in this neighborhood was great. That can’t be true!”
That reminded me of an incident from my past life, where I was the target of these “hooligans.” I suffered a tragic fate in which I was sexually assaulted by these hooligans.
The next day, rumors immediately swirled in school that I was an easy woman who would sell my body for a mere few hundred dollars.
On that fateful night, Maisie had complained about a stomachache. Tanner insisted that John send her to the hospital, but I refused since it was my birthday. Dad was waiting for me with the cake at home.
I begged them to drop me off at home before getting Maisie to the hospital. However, Tanner called me a cold-blooded woman and kicked me out of the car. Left alone in the alley, I saw a few hooligans closing in, and they sexually assaulted me.
Dad angrily started an investigation, only to find out that the school area had enhanced security. Gangs were virtually non-existent in the area. The guys in question had only shown up for one night.
Someone obviously wanted to ruin my life.
I hurriedly demanded an explanation from Tanner, but he cast me an icy look. He spat at me. “You’re filthy!”
From that moment onward, he treated me like scum on earth.
I met the man who assaulted me again at Tanner and Maisie’s wedding and learned that he was one of the bride’s relatives. It immediately became clear that Maisie was the mastermind behind my sexual assault in high school.
Since Tanner and Maisie wanted to harm me, I resolved to play the game with them. I called Tanner, informing him about the hooligans and reminding him to protect Maisie.
I sprang into action that night.
