Chapter 17
“Um… Pearl, when will you transfer the money into my account?”
John was about to get taken to court. At the same time, Tanner’s school fees weren’t covered yet. Not to mention, I didn’t pay him much attention nowadays. That was why he was starting to panic.
“Sorry, I forgot to tell you that something came up with my family’s capital flow. I can’t withdraw that much money for the time being.”
“It’s not that much! It’s just a few hundred thousand dollars, isn’t it? Didn’t you receive a lot of money as your allowance?”
I shot Tanner an embarrassed look. “I spent all of the money that I saved up on your gifts. That’s why I was hoping that I could get them back from you some time
ago…
“My dad has already urged me a few times. He said I’ve given away tens of millions of dollars, so he wants me to get all of the money back. My company will be able to operate for quite some time if I can get the money back.
“Do… Do you think you can return the money to me for now?”
The gifts that I had given to Tanner had already been exchanged into the casino chips meant for gambling thanks to John’s habit. They were either lost to other gamblers or sold for money.
Tanner was so furious that his face turned a shade of red. He was here to ask for money from me, and yet he was expected to return more money to me.
I did that on purpose. I wanted John to get imprisoned so that Tanner could never scrub that stain off his reputation no matter what.
He still wanted to continue studying in this school, eh? Well, he could do that… in his dreams!
Leanne ran over at that moment. “Tanner, you’re bullying Pearl again! She already told you that her family doesn’t have any money anymore!
“Her dad even sold the Rolls-Royce just to keep the company running, and yet you’re still forcing her! All you do is leech from her despite being a healthy young man who could’ve easily earned his own money!”
Oh, yeah. Both Tanner and Maisie had ridden the Rolls-Royce before. I felt that the vehicle was completely tainted with bad luck at this point, so I told my dad to get me a new vehicle instead.
“Pearl, I’ll bring over the pen that you gifted to me last time. Since your family’s financial situation is in trouble…”
“Huh? There’s no need for that!” I protested.
“Stop being stubborn, Pearl!”
“That’s right! Those pens belong to you in the first place!”
Now that the other classmates had said their piece, Tanner’s expression darkened even more. He couldn’t muster the courage to ask me for money anymore.
Elated, I waited eagerly for the news of Tanner’s impending dismissal from school.
But the next day, I found him sitting at his desk in the classroom. He seemed pretty happy for some reason.
Where did he get the money from?
I was uneasy about my latest discovery, so I made a phone call immediately. After making sure that John had yet to pay my family the compensation, I let out a sigh of relief.
It seemed that Tanner had gotten his hands on a sum of money through unknown methods and cleared his school fees.
That noon, Tanner told our classmates in the cafeteria that he’d treat them to lunch.
At first, no one believed him. After all, he was still borrowing money from everyone two days ago.

But Tanner soon said that he had a relative who sponsored him some money. So, he decided to treat everyone to lunch as a means to make up to them for his lies.
I had known Tanner for ten years. He didn’t have any relatives at all. No one wanted to have anything to do with him and John because of the latter’s gambling habit.
Finley refused to believe Tanner as well. He ordered some steak from the cafeteria, only to see Tanner footing the bill generously. When the other classmates saw this, they began ordering their favorite food as well. In fact, they practically ordered all of the available meat dishes from the cafeteria.
However, Tanner wasn’t angry at all. He just kept paying for our classmates’ lunches with a smirk on his face.
“Am I seeing things correctly? Is the amazing Mr. Rosenbloom back among our ranks?”
“Hahaha! My thoughts exactly!”
Tanner’s relationship with the rest of the classmates improved significantly over lunch. After lunch, everyone was a lot friendlier to him than before.
Still, a few classmates dared not accept his benevolent offer. We sat at another table while watching the majority of our classmates having fun with Tanner. Honestly, we looked down on that bunch of gold-digging people.
It was hard to believe that Tanner got rich overnight. He even insisted on giving me a bracelet. I was really frightened when I heard about it.
After all, I had no idea where he got his money from. If I were to accept the bracelet, would that spell disaster for me if the truth behind the money came to light?
