Hearing the stern voice, everyone looked up and saw a man in a black suit walking over slowly.
The man–as elegant and handsome as ever–was Randall.
He approached Shannon and stroked her head affectionately.
Then, he said to Miriam, his tong icy, “Shannon and I are in love whatever we do is consensual. I don’t mind her getting me drunk. Yet, Miriam, you keep saying you and I are together. Have some shame, will you?
Those who are bound to shine will shine even without a glorious growth environment. Shannon is one of those people, and you, as well as the other Lanes, are too stupid to see this.
The onlookers were slack–jawed.
One of them exclaimed. “Damn. Mr. Rowe truly loves Shannon
“Mr. Rowe dotes on Shannon so much. I wish my future husband is just like him.” A woman was envious.
An onlooker looked at Miriam with disdain. “Exactly how cheap is Miriam? She threw herself at him and was shameless enough to say she could let Shannon have him. Gee. I feel embarrassed for her.”
Another echoed, “So true. She’s just an adopted daughter. The Lanes made her part of the upper class, and she was so greedy that she tried to smear and push out the real daughter. How vicious. And don’t make me start talking about the Lanes.
Miriam’s expression changed a few times as she heard their discussion. Her origin was always her sore spot, yet every time, it was Randall, the love of her life, who hurt her so badly.
Tears streamed down her face instantly as she said sadly, “Randall, I love you so much. Why do you keep hurting me again and again!
Randall sneered, “I didn’t do anything. This is on you for not having any self–knowledge. You’re always obsessed with something you don’t deserve, which is just delusional.”
The sight of Miriam sickened him, and he turned to Shannon, saying gently, “You must be hungry. I’ll take you to eat.” With that, he pulled Shannon outside.
Shannon responded right away, “Wait. Randall, what about Celeste?”
He turned around and glanced at Celeste. “Miss Porter, I’m sure you don’t want to be a third wheel
“You bet Shannon, enjoy,” Celeste smiled. At first, she was against this marriage; yet seeing how Randall doted on Shannon, she figured he was quite reliable.
Looking at Miriam, who was crying miserably, she felt great and decided to enjoy a seafood feast by herself.
After getting into Randall’s car, Shannon requested bluntly, “I want a fancy meal.”
“OK, he agreed readily. It immediately occurred to him that his close friend, Wade Norman, was the owner of a chain of fancy restaurants.
After arriving at the restaurant, they went to a private room. He turned on his laptop and started to work while she started to order; quite starving, she ordered a lot, ranging from meat to seafood.
While ordering, she inadvertently looked up at his handsome face, which reminded her of Audrey’s request, so she ordered two bottles of wine

Soon, the food was served. She put a piece of abalone on his place fawningly. “Give it a go.”
“Thanks” he replied. In fact, he didn’t want to eat it, but upon merring her expectant look, he took a small bite and was surprised to find it was quite nice.

Then she poured him a glass of wine, but he pushed the glass away, saying, “I don’t drink during the day” Drinking spoiled things, and he had to keep his head clear all the time.
“Fine. I’ll drink alone,” she responded, picked up the glass, and gaped down the wine, thinking that he wouldn’t turn her down once she got drunk and fogged him to do something with her.
He took the bottle out of her hand when she was about to have a second glass, saying while looking at her, “This isn’t good for your stomach. At least eat something before you continue,”
Nodding obediently, she replied, “OK.”
