“That’s not gonna happen” Miriam shot hack.
With no one else around, Miriam dropped the act. “Look at you you’ve got nothing going for you, and you’re rude and completely uncouth. Forget about marrying Randall; the best you could do is hook up with a hillbilly”
Shannon didn’t respond but flashed a watery smile.
But inside, she made up her mind. If Randall was dumb enough to propose to Miriam, she’d make sure everyone knew what had happened last night. Her reputation didn’t matter–what bothered her was the smug look on the Lane family’s faces.
Soon enough, Lincoln walked in, practically glowing, with Randall in tow.
“Randall Miriam jumped up, her face lighting up, and rushed over to him, her cheeks flushed.
But to her surprise, Randall walked right past her and plopped down beside Shannon, ignoring her completely.
The Lanes were left awkwardly staring, and Miriam froze, her heart dropping
Lincoln quickly motioned for a servant to bring in coffee, trying to ease the tension. “Randall, what brings you here today?”
Randall didn’t answer right away, lighting a cigarette instead.
His assistant Colin Morrison, spoke up. “Mr. Rowe is here to propose.”
Lincoln’s eyes brightened, and he wiped away a tear. “That’s wonderful! Randall, I’ve been waiting for this day.”
The Lane family’s business was in serious trouble, struggling with cash flow and facing major challenges.
Lincoln had pinned all his hopes on marrying Miriam into the Rowe family, thinking their support could save everything. And now, it seemed like his dream was finally coming true.
Camilla was emotional too, her eyes red. “Randall, Miriam’s been in love with you since she was a little girl. She always said you were the one for her. I’m so happy to see things working out between you two.
I’ve watched her grow into such a kind and wonderful woman. Treat her with respect, patience, and love, Randall. I hope you both bring out the best in each other, and I’m sure you’ll make a wonderful team.”
“Aww, Mom…” Miriam blushed, grabbing Camilla’s hand affectionately, clearly pleased with the attention. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me.”
Colin, confused, spoke up. “Wait, is Miss Miriam getting married? But why does it have to do with Mr. Rowe? Mrs. Lane, Mr. Rowe is not here for Miss Miriam actually
Camilla blinked, completely thrown off. “What are you talking about? Isn’t Randall here to propose to Miram? Then who else is he here for?”
Randall cut Colin off, saying, “Mrs. Lane, you’ve got it all wrong. I’m here to propose to Shannon, not Miriam. I’ve never had any feelings for Miriam, not once.
He knew exactly what Miriam was about and couldn’t stand her hidden agenda. He’d seen all the games she’d played since she was a kid.
