Chapter 32
Shannon felt a bit helpless. “Guys, I really am not a fan of jewelry Casual clothes are my thing. Besides, I’m a student. Such expensive jewelry isn’t for me.”
Audrey snorted, “We’ll buy the jewelry now, and you can decide whether you want to wear them or not later. Besides, it’s just jewelry. If you don’t have any, others might think we aren’t nice to you.”
Audrey frequented banquets and private parties, and practically everyone in Lorston knew her. Also, she went everywhere together with her three daughters–in–law.
Since Shannon was new to the group, the onlookers‘ eyes fell on her as they pondered, ‘Word on the street is that Randall married without telling the world. So, this is his wife?‘
Shannon ignored their gazes and didn’t insist since Audrey was very persistent.
A rich woman close to Audrey approached and smiled while looking at Shannon, “So, this is your new daughter–in–law, Audrey?”
Audrey nodded. “Isn’t she pretty? I thought Randall would stay single for the rest of his life, but he surprised me. Now I’m just waiting for Shannon to get me a granddaughter next year.”
Shannon blushed at Audrey’s words and couldn’t help but feel guilty when she thought how uncooperative Randall was.
Neither the woman nor Audrey lowered their voice, so some women who were interested in Randall heard them loud and clear. They looked at Shannon, feeling a bit envious.
Miriam wasn’t far away, and she heard their conversation, too. She pursed her lips sullenly and looked at Camilla. “Mom, does Mrs. Rowe really like Shannon?”
Camilla snorted, “No way. Shannon was in the village for years. She isn’t elegant or noble at all, whereas Audrey values appearances. It’s more like she despises Shannon.” Her tone was dripping with disdain as if Shannon weren’t her daughter at
all.
Her words pleased Miriam, who raised her hand and waved her wrist with a sparkling bracelet on in front of Camilla. “Mom, how do I look?”
The bracelet caught Camilla’s attention, and she nodded. “So pretty. You’re always pretty, Miriam.”
Miriam smiled complacently while saying humbly, “Aww, Mom. Stop it. What if I take it seriously? The others will make fun of me.”
“Why would they? You’re pretty and outstanding indeed.” Camilla was very proud. After all, she raised Miriam, who made her proud the most.
Yet in the next second, Miriam lowered her head, looking sad. “If only I were your real daughter.” With that, she stroked her face and then looked at Shannon not far away with envy in her eyes.
Shannon inherited all the good features of Lincoln and Camilla’s looks; her breathtaking beauty would be engraved in
who saw her. anyone
Unlike her, Miriam looked plain. She was more of the gentle type, and she needed to spend a lot of time on her looks so as
to attract attention.
Miriam couldn’t help but clench her hands, looking at Shannon with jealousy while thinking, ‘If only I had Shannon’s looks. If so, I would have been Randall’s wife:
Camilla followed her gaze and saw Shannon, too. She gritted her teeth, furious at how disobedient Shannon was. “Shannon

is so rude. She saw me but didn’t greet me. Let’s go. She slapped you that day, and I’ve got to make her apologize to you.”
Miriam feigned fluster and grabbed the hem of Camilla’s clothes “No, Mom. Don’t…” She deliberately looked scared and wrapped her arms around her body. “She beat Dudley and the others up last time and took them to the police. Mom, I’m afraid she’ll…”
“She’ll what? Beat me up?” Seeing Shannon linking arms with Audrey, and the two were as close as mother and daughter, Camilla was bugged. She grabbed Miriam’s arm and walked over.
Just as they walked over to Shannon, they saw Audrey pointing at a diamond necklace on the counter very domineeringly. “I’ll take that one. Shannon can wear it when she feels like it.”
Shannon shook her head. “Audrey, I don’t need it.”
Audrey immediately cut her off. “It’s just a million–dollar toy, not even presentable on formal occasions. Wear it when you attend classes.”
Putting on a wry smile, Shannon said, “It’s really not necessary, Audrey. I don’t like it anyway. I mean it.”
“What do you like then?” Audrey looked through the counter with disdain. “Everything’s so cheap. Where are the valuable ones?”
Hearing this, the shop assistant immediately took out several necklaces from a safe. Under the light, the necklaces shone, attracting everyone’s attention.
Standing aside, Miriam almost couldn’t breathe; she gawked at the necklaces.
Meanwhile, Audrey glanced at the necklaces and nodded reluctantly. “Shannon, which one do you like?”
The cheapest of these necklaces was worth 10 million dollars, and the gems on them were especially rare; each necklace had its own story.
Noticing the gazes of Camilla and Miriam, Shannon deliberately pointed to the most expensive sapphire necklace. “This one. But… is it a bit too expensive, Audrey?” She sounded troubled, but the look on her face showed how much she liked the necklace.
Camilla, who had been ignored by her, snorted, “This necklace matches Miriam perfectly. Some people should have some self–knowledge and stop coveting those things that don’t belong to them.”
“Indeed. Self–knowledge is very important. Don’t get any ideas about things that aren’t theirs,” Audrey sneered while looking at Camilla.
Then Audrey turned to Shannon, waving her hand. “Shannon, ignore irrelevant people. Pick anything you like, and I’ll buy it for you. Only pick those expensive ones. If you like them all, then I’ll buy them all.
“If none of them catches your eye, no worries; we’ll still buy them. You can toss them in a corner after we get home, We’re rich and can afford to do so. Yet, someone is petty enough to take a million–dollar necklace seriously. How pathetic.”
