BEVERLY’S POV

He stands by the door that he literally just barged through. He doesn’t look pleased to see me standing there, by his grandfather and he is glaring daggers at me from where he stands. I fight the urge to roll my eyes at him because I am equally as mad at him for what he just called me.
“She is my guest, grandfather.” He repeats, now closing the door behind him and slowly walking towards us. I can’t help it this time, I scoff.
“Kian, son, where the hell did you go to, leaving me waiting in your office like that?” His grandfather speaks.
“I am sorry I kept you waiting.” Kian, who is now standing between me and his grandfather, apologizes. His
grandfather waves a hand, “So? Where is Leslie? You disappeared all of a sudden and I couldn’t stand the wait so I came here expecting to find her but she isn’t here either and your maids won’t say a w about her whereabouts.”

I sense the tense waves rising and crashing in Kian as he seems lost and with no answer for his grandfather. I watch, amused and curious to know what his next move will be.
He turns to me, eyes void of emotions.
“Thanks for taking care of my grandfather, Beverly but do know I have maids for that. You are a guest here and should also be treated as such.”
My mouth hangs open. This pretentious lying bastard. He has perfected the act of pretense so well that he actually looks at me like he didn’t put a baby inside of me.
“You can leave now, I’ll take it from here.” He is still looking straight at me, eyes imploring me to go with whatever this is. I want to yell in his face but I hold myself back from doing that and ruining his grandfather’s impression of me.
So I smile, stiffly. And say between my teeth, “Of course.”
I turn around and leave for my room. In there, I yell out to my heart’s content since the entire house is soundproof anyway. Guest? I scoff.
Minutes later, my door opens and Kian walks in, face calm and poised but I’ve known him long enough to know there is a brewing storm behind that cool composure. He must be done feeding his grandfather shit.
“What the hell was that?” He says the moment he closes the door behind him, his calm exterior slipping away right that second.
“No, you tell me, what the hell was that? Guest? Really?”
told you to stay away from him but then I come in and you’re serving him tea? What the hell is wrong with you, Beverly?” He bellows.
I scoff. The nerve of this man.
“What is wrong with me? How dare you ask me that when you literally just called me a guest in front of your grandfather?” I retort.

“Well, I wouldn’t have had to do that if you had just listened to me and stayed put!”
“That is no excuse, Klan. What I can see is you trying to hide me away like your dirty little secret and I will not let you reduce me to that.”
He sighs and runs his hand through his hair, a sign of his frustration that I give no damn about.
“You didn’t tell him about the divorce, did you?” I press.
“Beverly, please, let’s talk this out.” He says, looking more resigned than angry at me now.
“Answer my question.”
“I can’t!” He snaps, “I can’t, okay? I can’t tell him. Not about the divorce and definitely not about you.”
“Afraid grandfather dearest will be disappointed in you? I taunt, knowing just how possible it is because of the respect he has for that old man..
“He is ill. That’s why he has been away for over a year now. I can’t tell him anything right now, Beverly. You have to understand.”
“Of course, I have to understand that I and my child are not important enough to be introduced to the
-father figure in your life.” I say, feigning a hurt.
Kian closes the small distance between us and grabs my hands in his.
“No, no, Beverly. I am not trying to make you or my baby feel unwanted but for my grandfather’s sake you have to understand me.” He tries to let me go but I hold on to him, not missing the way he seems to recoil slightly at the prolonged contact. It’s so hard to believe this man once worshiped the ground I walked on. 2
“What did you tell him?”
He avoids my eyes as he answers, “uhhh…just a little bit of truth? I told him Leslie got a job and is away on a business trip for two weeks and won’t be in contact. As for you…well, you’re a business partner staying with me cause of uh…your baby.”
“He believed that?” I say, surprised.
Kian shrugs, “He adores her and has always encouraged her love for creating designs. I can even say he is proud of her.” Kian is talking about his grandfather but with the longing look I catch in his eyes, it seems like he is expressing his own emotions about his ex–wife.
He catches himself quickly and clears his throat while I try to stay calm, “Just two weeks, Beverly. Please, he will be here for just two weeks and then he’s gone. When he gets better, I will break the news to him.”
I relax. Leslie is out of the picture anyway, why do I have to worry? I put my hand around him and lay my head on his chest. He tenses but wraps his arms around me anyway.
“Okay, I can wait.” I say then lift my head to look at him. I stand on my tip toes, going for a kiss. His breathing hitches when he realizes what I am about to do.
“Beverly…” He calls, his entire body tensing, a telltale sign that he doesn’t want me but I don’t care. He doesn’t have a choice if he wants me to hide away like this and he knows it, that’s why he is putting up less of a fight.

I kiss him anyway, pushing him into the bed.
And it might seem twisted that I am practically blackmailing him into sleeping with me this way but that is only a step into fully owning Kian–body, soul and mind.
