She tossed a dress at me with a sneer.
“Later, there’s my engagement party with Ethan. Your mom and James will be there. The Smith family has raised you and your mom for so many years, at least don’t embarrass them with that deathly expression of yours.”
I ran my fingers over the fabric of the dress.
No wonder Ethan had locked me in the basement–he was afraid I’d ruin his engagement
party.
I didn’t say a word. I simply took the dress, went to my room, changed, and followed her downstairs.
After taking my phone, I saw that my mom had sent me several messages.
When I was busy with work, I rarely had time to reply to her, so even though I didn’t respond right away, she never seemed to mind.
After a few moments of typing, she finally sent a lighthearted message.
“Mom just woke up, waiting for you.”
At the banquet hall, all the influential people in the city had gathered.
This engagement party had clearly been planned for a long time.
I entered the hall in my dress, and everyone’s eyes flashed with admiration, except for
Ethan.
He strode toward me, grabbed my hand, and pulled me aside.
“Who gave you permission to come out?”
“I let her out,” Winnie said, hooking her arm through mine with a smile. “It’s our engagement party, after all. How could my sister not join us?”

Ethan seemed about to say something, but Winnie dragged me onto the stage.
“Welcome, everyone, to Ethan and my engagement party! James and my parents are at the airport picking up my parents and will be arriving a little late.”
“Now, let me introduce Ethan’s little sister. If any of you young gentlemen are interested, feel free to send in a proposal.”
It felt like an auction, and the crowd murmured.
“Look at this!”
A gasp went up from the crowd.
Everyone stared at the screen behind me. I turned around and saw my love letters to Ethan displayed on the big screen, the words explicit.
Below that were my private photos in my pajamas.
“No wonder she hasn’t been in a relationship–she’s been staying at home, seducing her own
brother.”
“No wonder Ethan is rushing to marry Winnie -this is what he has at home.”
“Look at her figure, it’s not bad. Maybe I should propose to her instead.”
My face turned pale as I looked up at my mother, James, and Winnie ‘s parents standing at
the door.
I met Ethan’s gaze, and his eyes showed a flash of shock.
Shame overwhelmed me, and I panicked, trying to leave the stage.
Winnie grabbed my dress tightly.
With a loud rip, the fabric of my chest tore open. My chest was exposed for a brief moment.
I screamed and covered myself, the laughter and insults of the crowd echoing in my ears.
The cloth covering me was yanked away, and everything was laid bare in front of everyone.

I felt dizzy, my vision blurring. I noticed a fruit knife on a nearby tray held by a server.
I rushed toward it.
“Grace!”
My mom rushed over and wrapped her arms around my waist, draping her coat over me.
Winnie threw herself into her parents‘ arms, crying, saying she didn’t want to marry.
Her parents looked furious and demanded an explanation from the Smith family.
I couldn’t hear anything around me, the ringing in my ears drowning out the noise. My
mom led me back to the room.
That evening, my door was opened
My mom, her eyes red from crying, whispered hoarsely, Tm so sorry, Grace. I couldn’t protect you.”
“This place can no longer hold you. Let’s go abroad, Grace.”
“James promised me he won’t let anyone find you for at least a year.”
I knew this was the best solution for now.
The next morning, I left everything behind and my mom sent me to the airport.
I opened my phone, and the news headline was about the marriage alliance between the Smith and White families.
The wedding was set for the fifteenth of next month, coinciding with Winnie’s birthday.
I deleted all the contact information for Ethan.
At that moment, our six year secret relationship was truly over.
