Chapter 9
I sighed deeply, staring at his face.
“Stop pretending, Ethan. Do you really think there’s a future for us?”
“I came back only to put an end to this.”
“We’ve long since been over.”
Ethan froze for a moment, then suddenly burst into laughter.
“What are you talking about, Grace? Haven’t we been in love for six years? It’s time we get
married.”
It was then that I realized something was seriously wrong with Ethan.
I instinctively took a few steps back, my hand gripping the door handle.
“If you’re not here to have an honest conversation, then there’s no need for us to stay together.”
I turned to leave.
Ethan’s smile vanished instantly. With a furious motion, he grabbed my hand and threw me onto the bed.
“How can you say such heartless things to me?”
“Do you know how much I’ve missed you these past six months? I missed you so much I almost went mad!”
“How could you just walk away, leaving me behind? You can’t even imagine what I’ve been through!”
His voice cracked, and hot tears splashed onto my face.
It was disgusting.

I pushed him away with all my strength.
“You’re insane!”
“Don’t you understand why I left in the first place? Wasn’t this exactly what you wanted?”
“To take revenge on me, to hurt my mother, to force me into a dead end–wasn’t that your
goal all along?”
wow you got
Now you got what you wanted. I’m gone, and you’re still here playing games?”
Ethan stared at me in shock, then suddenly threw himself on top of me, pulling me into a tight embrace.
“No, that’s not it, it’s not like that at all.”
“The engagement party–those things had nothing to do with me. It was all Winnie’s doing. I’ve already dealt with the White family. Please forgive me.”
“I did think about getting back at you, but after I saw your cry, after I saw how much it hurt you, I regretted it. That’s when I realized, Grace, I really love you. I truly do.”
Tears slid down the corners of my eyes.
I spoke softly, my voice distant:
“There’s no chance for us anymore. I don’t care whether you were behind it all or not, because I don’t love you anymore.”
Ethan sh
his head desperately, his eyes full of disbelief.
“How can that be? We’ve been together for six years. How can you say you don’t love me
anymore?”
“Are you
still angry with me?”
Suddenly, Ethan seemed to remember something.
Without warning, he slapped himself across the face.
Chapter 9
“Back then, I hit you, and now I’m getting it back. Is that okay?”
When I didn’t respond, he slapped himself again, harder this time, the skin on his lip breaking and bleeding. It was truly insane.
“Is that enough, Grace? If not, I can keep going.”
He rasped, his eyes pleading.
stared at him like he was a madman.
“No matter how many slaps you land, it won’t compare to the pain I felt back then.”
“Ethan, you’re the one who wronged me. Our relationship ended a long time ago. Don’t you understand human speech?”
“If you’re still acting like this, then there’s no reason for us to keep talking!”
I tried to push him away and leave, but he yanked me back forcefully.
He slammed his fist into the bed, making me jump in surprise.
“Grace, you’ve changed. I can’t stand hearing you talk like this anymore.”
Before I knew it, he leaned down and kissed me violently, tearing at my lips.
