There was a mischievous glint in the reponer’s eyes as Alice watched Nosh being interviewed.
Noah was caught off guard by the reporter’s question.

Alice had moved our months before the exam and rarely came home.
Her academic improvement had nothing to do with the Welch family.

The reporter seemed disappointed by his reply.
Ingrid, however, knew something of Alice’s family affairs. Alice was being sarcastic.

Noah could hardly force a smile. He felt ashamed.
He’d done nothing to contribute to Alice’s success.
The congratulations felt like a condemnation to him.
He dared not look at Alice even more. He thought of what he had just said.
Ingrid tried to smooth things over.“Let’s go to the restaurant.”
Alice, lagging behind, said to Noah, “You’d better leave.”
“Alice!”
Noah watched Alice’s back with a complex expression, unable to speak to her as he had done before.
Seeing Noah’s back on the roadside from the car, Alice found Drake’s congratulations ironic.
Soon they arrived at the restaurant.
Noah also drove over. He didn’t want to leave.
When he got out of the car, he received a call from Luke. “Noah, what happened? Chloe has arrived. Why haven’t you brought Alice to the hospital yet?”
Noah took a deep breath.“We’ll go after lunch.
“Lunch? Nothing could be more important now than the Yates family’s matter. Garrett got terrible scores. Mrs. Yates called several times. Garrett turned down all video calls. If Mrs. Yates sees him in the hospital, all our efforts will go in vain.*
Noah’s voice trembled. “There is a banquet to celebrate Alice’s achievement. I can’t leave.”

Luke asked, “What banquet? Is Alice the top scorer in the city? Why is there a banquet for her?

Noah was tipsy.
Alice, after bidding farewell to Ingrid and Drake, helped Noah go to the car.
The driver helped Noah into the car,

Alice found it amusing.
She sneered, “From today, we are no longer a family. Don’t interfere in my life anymore!”
