She made herself look even more distraught to gain his sympathy after hanging up.
Alice slowly descended the stairs.
She saw Luke running towards her with a worried face.
Chloe’s backup arrived quickly. She raised her eyebrows.
Luke stopped when he saw her, her cold expression unnerving him.
She ignored him, walking past as if they were strangers.
His heart sank. He called out, “Alice!”
She didn’t respond as if she hadn’t heard it.
He pursued her.“Alice, Chloe called me. You met her on the rooftop and tried to push her off!”
Alice raised an eyebrow. “Are you accusing me?”
Luke’s tone had been harsh, partly due to her earlier indifference. He realized it.
He softened his voice.“I just want to know why. Chloe is your sister.”
“Chloe doesn’t deserve to be my family. She belongs in jail!”
Luke was taken aback.“But attempted murder is also a crime.”
“Do you have proof?”
“What proof is needed?”
“Oh, no proof? Then why were you asking for evidence earlier?”
Alice’s eyes were dark.“Chloe harmed me, and I needed evidence. But when Chloe says I harmed her, no evidence is needed, right?”
“Alice, that’s not what I meant.”
“What did you mean then?”
She saw his demeanor shift from confident to guilty, then to silence.
Alice said coldly, “Don’t act remorseful and try to reconcile. It’s disgusting.”
Luke was speechless, not knowing how to react.
He realized his bias.
