With a shoulder throw, Alice sent Ethan sprawling onto the floor. She was so fast. Most people didn’t react until he landed. Ethan’s face was pale with pain.
Chloe reacted first, rushing to his side.“Ethan, are you alright?”
Ethan coughed and waved his hand, but he clearly wasn’t okay. Chloe looked up.“Alice, how could you hit Ethan?!”
Alice clapped her hands.“Didn’t he start it?”
Alice had been diligently practicing boxing for this day!
Chloe stammered, “But he’s your brother! You could seriously injure him by doing that!”
The Maple Company’s representative couldn’t help but speak up,“Should Alice have just stood there and taken a beating?”
The gossipy colleague also chimed in, “Your bias is showing! He started it! Even if this goes to the police, Alice acted in self–defense! Now I understand why she’s working instead of living off her inheritance. You treat her like a maid!”
Chloe was speechless, focusing on winning Ethan’s favor. He was her only support.
Alice looked at Ethan on the floor.“I’m no longer the child who would take a beating without fighting back.”
She wasn’t the girl who’d been economically controlled and held hostage by family ties!
Ethan, feeling humiliated, gritted his teeth.“Alice, you’ll regret this!”
“I already regret not waking up sooner!”
As Alice was about to leave, Luke blocked her.“I tried to stop Chloe. She tricked me!”
“She tricked you? You probably wanted her to!”
They just wanted to make her obedient and clip her wings! What kind of brother was he?
Luke didn’t dare to meet Alice’s gaze. He explained anxiously, “I didn’t!”
“But you did this in the end. Get out of my way!”
Alice walked away without looking back. Luke stumbled, feeling unsteady.
He turned to Chloe, his gaze menacing.
Chloe noticed Luke’s expression, shrinking back. She crouched beside Ethan. “Ethan, let’s take you to the hospital.”
Ethan’s face was grim. He’d been utterly defeated by Alice! It was a humiliating defeat!
He told his secretary, “Find a way to blacklist the Maple Company. It’s just a small company from New York. I’ll make sure they can’t survive in Washington!”
“Ethan, that’s too much!”

Before he could finish speaking, Ethan started coughing, his chest heaving, likely with broken ribs. He hadn’t expected Alice to be so skilled!
Chloe looked down and avoided Luke’s gaze, leaving with Ethan.
Luke stood alone. He wanted to cry, but he couldn’t. He’d wanted to reconcile with Alice! But he’d messed it up.
He remembered Noah’s words to ask him not to trust Chloe. But he’d fallen for Chloe’s lies! It was his fault!

The representative comforted her, “Good riddance to such a family. You can do well on your own.”

“Absolutely. And congratulations on becoming our youngest partner!”
Andrew handed Alice a document.“Take a look. Any requests?”
Alice glanced at the contract.“Partner?”
“Yes. Seeing your impressive performance, big companies will be trying to poach you. I need to secure you first!”
Alice was surprised.
After reviewing the contract, she signed it. It was a good deal.
Andrew handed it to Jack.“Let’s have a meeting.”
Alice saw Jack holding her contract, standing up to join them. Was he coming too?
Jack sat beside Andrew, clearly a high–ranking member.
Alice sat with the tech team, opposite Jack. She hadn’t expected him to be at the meeting.
The representative whispered, “Alice, why are you staring at Mr. Wilson?”
Alice quickly looked away, and her face was flushed.“I was thinking. I spaced out.”
Alice looked at the representative.“You know Mr. Wilson?”

Alice looked at Jack, lounging in his chair, with her signed contract in his hands. His long fingers tapped rhythmically on the document.
After the meeting, everyone left except the three of them.
Alice hesitated.“You’re on assignment here for a long time. Can you take time off from school?”
“I resigned.”
Jack held her contract, his fingers tracing her name.
Why had he suddenly decided to move to Washington? Jack hadn’t been a school doctor for long in her previous life. He’d probably resigned to start the Maple Company.

As she reached the street, a car stopped. A man in a suit appeared.“Ms. Alice, I’m Mr. Ethan’s secretary. He wants to discuss what happened just now with you. I’m here to take you home.”
Alice thought, “Discuss and take me home? I have no family.”
Alice smirked, “No, I won’t go.“.
Two more men got out of the car, blocking her path.
“Sorry, Ms. Alice, you must come with us.”
