Chapter 19
Alice stopped, her voice polite and distant. “Second brother, fourth brother, sixth brother.” If she didn’t call out to them, they’d probably accuse her of sulking and being rude. She didn’t have the energy to argue with them, it was just a waste of time.
Luke raised an eyebrow and looked over. So, how’d the exam go today? You’re so focused on ‘studying hard that you didn’t join the team. I’m curious to see how well you can do!*
Facing the jabs from her sixth brother, Alice didn’t take it to heart; no matter what she did, her brothers always looked down on her. She pressed her lips together I’ll do my best.”
She was determined to improve her grades and get into Harvard University far away from them.
Caleb let out a scoff. “Alice’s never been a bookworm. She didn’t do great in tenth or eleventh grade, either. Cramming now, at the end? It only looks like she’s trying hard. In the end, she’s still behind Chloe!”
Chloe chimed in with a smile:“Caleb, don’t say that. Alice’s been studying really hard lately, even the teachers praised her. Grades aren’t everything, you know.”
Alice denched her backpack tightly, anger surging in her chest. There was a reason for her poor grades in her past life. Every time she outperformed Chloe, Chloe would come after her, making her brothers dislike her. To avoid their disdain, Alice deliberately slacked off in her
exams.
So, her grades were always worse than Chloe’s, not because she wasn’t capable! In her past life, she’d wanted to surpass Chloe on the college entrance exam, to prove she was better. But what happened? Her oldest brother forced her to apply to the same, inferior college as Chloe, even though her scores qualified her for much better schools!
Thinking of this, Alice fought control her emotions.“I’m going to my room.”
Her gaze was icy, but this time, she wouldn’t be a fool.
The next day, on the weekend, Alice woke up naturally. When she went downstairs for breakfast, the hall was empty. They were probably at the training camp. Alice didn’t think much of it; after finishing her meal, she returned to her room.
She checked her phone for updates on the gaming tournament. Sure enough, the official announcement for the revival round was up. Just like in her past life, Luke was pumped up for the revival match, all fired up to win. That was the only way to advance and get revenge on the young master of the Wilson family in the finals!
But in her past life, the Landing Team’s championship win was more of a fluke. The Wilson family’s young master had dropped out at the last crucial moment, giving them a shot at victory. But why he withdrew remained a mystery until the day she died. Some said it was a sudden illness, others said he was called back home to inherit the family business, but there was never any official statement.
Looking at the game details, Alice felt a sudden itch to play. But then, Jack’s voice echoed in her head. They had agreed to decide whether to play games based on the monthly exam results. Fine, she’d hold off; at least she’d wait until the results came out.
She took out her phone, hesitated, and finally sent Jack a message: [Teacher, I didn’t go to the infirmary after school last week because my Second Brother found out I wasn’t home on time. I was worried he’d discover my secret base, so I didn’t go.]
After sending the message, Alice stared at the chat window for a long time, but there was no reply. She couldn’t help but check Jack’s Moments, only to find a blank post. Does this guy never post anything?
