Chapter 191
Who else but Jack could pull off something so freaking unbelievable?
But Jack probably wouldn’t ask for something like that.
After all, John was Jack’s smart, adorable, and sensible little brother.
John stared at his computer screen. He believed that Alice’s question held a deeper meaning.
But he couldn’t figure it out.
What if he answered wrong and left a bad impression?
He was Jack’s hardworking, brave, and brilliant younger brother. He couldn’t screw this up!
Jack, are you online dating? You’re so happy. Who are you chatting with?”
“Get outta here! What online dating? I’m talking to Lemon, but she asked me a weird question.”
“What question?”
John recounted Alice’s question.
His teammate’s jaw dropped.“She’s trying to set you up!”
“Don’t talk nonsense! She’d never try to set me up!”
“John, think about it. Didn’t Lemon openly declare war on us at the competition, saying we’d be rivals next year?”
“She’s fishing for info on what could make you quit the competition.”
“The intentions are pretty clear, right?”
John pondered.“You make a good point.”
He almost fell for Alice’s trick!
What if Alice talked to John and made John quit the competition?
Jack was totally capable of that!
No way, he couldn’t dig his own grave!
He couldn’t lose the competition no matter what!
John stared at Alice’s message, hesitating.
“Who is it?”
“Are you still online?”
Alice waited for a while, but John didn’t reply. She became anxious.
Was there really someone like that?
She needed to know!
Then John went offline.
He patted his chest, a wave of fear washing over him. He’d almost spoken the truth!
No way, he couldn’t reveal his weaknesses!
Not even to Alice!
A second later, his phone buzzed.

It was Alice’s message. “Why did you go offline?”
A headache pounded in John’s temples. He had to figure out an answer, a way to deflect.
He absolutely couldn’t let Alice connect it to Jack!
Alice waited for a long time with her phone in her hand. No reply from John. Maybe he was busy.
But after seeing his last message, she felt nervous.
That person existed. Who was that?
The thought both terrified and disappointed Alice.
Alice wrote out a detailed training program for the rookies and gave it to her senior schoolmate to train everyone.
Leaving the training base, Alice headed straight to the gym.
Her mind was a whirlwind. She needed to train to distract herself, or she’d lose it and see John.
She needed an answer.
But her reason held her back.
What if John wasn’t the person?
What if it was just a name coincidence?
At the gym, the boss was surprised to see her.“You didn’t book a session in advance, did you?”
“No, I decided last minute. Is the trainer not here?”
“No, he’s not. I’ll call him.”
That trainer was Alice’s personal trainer. He would show up only when she booked in advance.
Even the equipment was top–of–the–line, more expensive than the
In fact, the boss had become an employee now.
Alice changed her clothes and went to the boxing area.
She put on her boxing gloves and started punching the heavy bag.
itself.
Memories of her past life flooded back. She was kicked out of her family. The Welch family blocked everything.
She lost every job she tried to get.
She tried to get a job in a black market, but her name was infamous. Nobody would hire her.
She fainted from hunger on the streets.
Then someone gave her some cash and a bank card. He told her to leave and start a new life.
But back then, she hated Chloe.
Alice blamed Chloe for taking everything away from her. Alice used that money to kidnap and kill Chloe.
However, she failed and was locked up in a psych ward.
Eventually, Alice was tortured to death by a caretaker Chloe hired.
How stupid she’d been.
She should have left.
“You’re going to hurt yourself.”
Alice turned and threw a punch, but it was blocked by Jack.

She was breathless and drenched in sweat.
She stopped. “What are you doing here?”
Jack handed her a water bottle. “Can’t I work out at this gym?*
“Why this particular gym?”
Alice took a sip and wiped the sweat from her forehead before it flew into her eyes.
Jack noticed her blinking and used the towel to wipe her sweat.“Don’t move.”
Alice stood still and noticed their shadows overlapping.
Jack stopped and put the towel on her head. “You look like an old lady!”
Alice snatched it off.“You look like an old lady!”
“Why the bad mood?”
Jack saw her distress because she was punching the boxing bag.
His gaze locked on her face. “Is it because of that creep harassing you yesterday?”
Alice was still upset. It seemed that the lesson from yesterday wasn’t enough.
Alice shook her head.“No, I won’t take that pathetic loser’s words to heart.”
She didn’t care about strangers‘ attacks.
“Tell me what’s wrong.”
Alice couldn’t bring herself to explain her past life. No one would believe her.
Especially, it involved John.
Alice shook her head.“Just a lot on my plate lately. I’m stressed out.”
She didn’t want to speak, so Jack didn’t press.
He stood up.“I’ll spar with you today.”
“But you’re injured.”
Alice looked at his arm, but he was wearing a long–sleeved shirt. She couldn’t see the wound.
Jack said indifferently, “Want to see?”
He started unbuttoning his shirt, revealing his collarbone.
Alice stopped him. “What are you doing? Who wants you to take your shirt off?”
“Or how are you going to see?”
Alice’s face flushed. She snatched his hand away.“You can just change into a short sleeve! Then I can see.”
It was late summer, still quite hot.
He would have to wear a short sleeve to work out anyway.
Jack stood up.“Just kidding. You have to pay to see me naked.”
“How much?”
His gaze darkened. “If it’s you, it’s free. Want to see?”
Alice blushed and looked away. “Who wants to see?”
She had to admit that she was not good at kidding.

Seeing her able to joke again Jack relaxed.
He turned to change.
In the locker room, his phone rang. It was John, rambling on and on.
Jack frowned.“Spit it out, or I’m hanging up.”
“Jack, don’t hang up! Did Alice mention anything to you?”
Jack considered it.“She did.”
“Jack! I’m your little brother! Don’t promise Alice anything! Don’t make me look bad!”
He couldn’t quit the competition.
Jack narrowed his eyes. What did she say to you?”
John immediately realized he’d been tricked. Jack, you were tricking me!”
Jack’s tone turned serious. “Speak.”
It definitely had something to do with Alice’s bad mood!
