Chloe’s hope died. Her face hurt badly, and the burning shame of her earlier words set in.
Alice glared at Chloe.“Pick up my documents!”

“Does it mean you don’t have to pick them up?”
Chloe was speechless. She turned to Ethan.“Ethan, I was trying to help her.”
“Alice, look at what you’ve done to Chloe! This is court! Do you think you can get away with it?”
Ethan was looking for a way to get back at Alice, and she had just handed him one.
Billy said calmly, “Mr. Welch, you need evidence. My client acted in self–defense. Ms. Chloe was the aggressor.”
Ethan was surprised that Billy was involved in this petty squabble. Ethan shut his mouth.
Chloe felt frustrated and played the victim to Garrett.“It hurts so much.”
Seeing Chloe’s bruised face, Garrett felt a flicker of disinterest, but he didn’t want Alice to win.
He spoke to Billy, “Mr. Nash, this is a separate issue. You’re busy. Don’t get involved.”
“This is also within my duties.”
“How much did my cousin pay you to defend Alice? Are they having an affair?”
Garrett could only think of his cousin.
