Alice held her nose in disgust, turning to Jack.“You should go.”
“Alice, you’re so eager to get rid of him. Are you guilty? Afraid your poor boyfriend will find out you’re being kept?”
Alice turned to the drunken Chloe. “You keep mentioning being kept. You seem to know a lot about it.”
“Alice, stop changing the subject. You’re guilty.”
Chloe looked at Jack, who was in the car. “Don’t look so upset. Alice cheated on you. She’s being kept by Mr. Yates, and he gave her shares of the Maple Company.”
Jack’s eyes narrowed when he heard the words.
It was he who had given Alice the shares.
Chloe boasted, “A poor nurse like you will never earn that much money in your life. You’re a gigolo. But you’re good–looking. If you were with me, I’d give you more money,”
She couldn’t stand Alice being a two–timer and still having a man devoted to her.
Garrett Yates, that mama’s boy, was called back by his mother and wouldn’t even answer her calls.
Chloe hiccupped. If she was miserable, Alice couldn’t be happy either.
She’d take everything from Alice, including her man.
She looked at Jack, asking, “So, which is better, me?”
Alice wouldn’t give Jack much money. She was the Welch family’s favorite daughter.
“Chloe, are you crazy?”
Alice pulled Chloe away and slapped her.“Didn’t you get enough earlier?”
Chloe sat on the ground, dazed.
Alice took out her phone and recorded.“If you’re drunk and horny, go to a hotel. Don’t make a scene here.”
Chloe tried to yell, but seeing Alice recording, she hurried to scramble up.“Delete that video!”
“Get lost, or I’ll post this on the school forum. Let your simps see your drunken antics. Let’s see if you can keep your ‘pure‘ image.”
Chloe, sobering up, scurried away.
Alice put away her phone, turning to Jack. “She’s drunk and crazy. I’ll get back to the dorm before curfew.”
Jack nodded, watching her enter the school.
At the thought of Chloe’s words, he called Andrew, his tone cold.“What did Ethan say?”
“I was about to tell you. They seem to misunderstand me and Alice. They say I’m keeping her, and Ethan tried to blackmail me. What a joke.”
Jack’s face was grim.“Expose their theft of trade secrets. Make it as damaging as possible.”
“Got it. Alice needs justice.”
Andrew paused.“As your friend, let me remind you. People will eventually discover your identity. Have you thought about explaining this to Alice?”
As long as Alice was in Washington, she’d run into people who knew Jack.
It was only a matter of time. Alice would finally know it.

Jack’s throat tightened. “I know.”
But he didn’t know how to tell Alice.
He was afraid she’d end their friendship if Alice knew who he was.
Everything he had with her felt stolen.
“Think it over. The truth always comes out.”
Andrew said it before hanging up.

Jack rolled down his window, lighting a cigarette. He looked at the night sky, his thoughts tangled like a ball of twines, unable to untangle,
He held the cigarette between his fingers till the sparks burned itself out.
His phone buzzed and he came to himself. It was a message from Alice.“Are you home yet?”
He crushed out the cigarette and replied, “Almost.”
His lips curved up involuntarily. Even he himself didn’t notice that.
Alice was in bed in the dorm, sending him a picture of herself applying ointment. “You got my arm hurt. I had to put on
a lot of ointment.”
Otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to move tomorrow.
Jack’s car stopped in front of the traffic light. He subconsciously took his phone and saw the message she sent, his eyes
darkened.
He
put his hand on the car window and replied, “I didn’t do that.”
Alice sent a string of ellipses.
Jack took a glance of it, threw his phone aside, and drove home, in high spirits.
Alice reread his message and couldn’t help but send a sticker of a person beating someone up.
Her message had been clear.
The next day, Alice was woken by a phone call.
She had planned to sleep in since she had no classes that morning.
After being woken, she was annoyed.“Who is it?”
“Alice, I didn’t expect you to be so ruthless that you wanted to destroy me. I confessed to everything, but why did you expose this to the media? Won’t you be satisfied if you don’t destroy me completely?”
Luke’s voice was full of grief.
Alice sat up, yawning.“Are you sick? When did I expose anything to the media?”
“Check the gaming news. Who else would do this?”
Luke saw the article and knew his career was over.
Sponsors were calling to cancel contracts.
The manager of the team told him that most members wanted to quit.
Luke raged, Alice, I admit I was wrong. Even if I have to go to jail, I’ll face it. Why do you have to go this far?”
Alice checked her phone and saw the article.

She cast a glimpse of the news.
It said Luke stole trade secrets for Ethan’s company, without mentioning the details or Alice’s name.
But the scandal caused Ethan’s company’s stock to plummet.
After she read it, Alice replied coldly, “Believe it or not, I didn’t do it.”
“Who else would?”
“If you believe so, then so be it. The report isn’t false. It’s true.”
She wouldn’t explain and just let it be.
After all, misunderstandings from the Welch family were nothing new to her.
*Alice, I owe you nothing these years. We’re even now!”
Luke hung up after saying that.
Alice glanced at the phone and sneered.
But she wondered who did it.
She forwarded the article to Andrew.“Did you do this?”
Alice could only think of Andrew.
“Ahem. How did you know that?”
Andrew was sort of embarrassed. Had she discovered something?
“Besides you, I can’t think of anyone else who is capable. But if you did that, Garrett might cause trouble for you.”
Chloe would definitely tell Garrett.
“Don’t worry about Garrett.”
Andrew paused.“You know who I am?”
“Yes, Jack told me.”
Andrew was lost for words.
What the hell? Jack used his friend as a shield! Fine!
“Alice, it doesn’t matter who I am. We’re friends after all. If Garrett does something bad to you, let me know.”
Alice smiled. Garrett couldn’t do something bad to her.
She blurted out, “How did you and Jack meet? What did he do before?”
