Alice watched the manager fawn over Chloe, his flattery blatant.

Ignoring the HR manager’s coldness, she went to the tech department.
The team leader, seeing her young face, sneered.“Such a young engineer? Did HR make a mistake?”

Could this young girl, who looked barely out of high school, possibly solve the firewall issue?
Alice’s tone was calm. “Since you can’t do it, let’s see if I can.”
She sat down at an empty desk and started testing the software on the computer.
She recognized the team leader.
In her previous life, he’d testified for Chloe, claiming she’d solved the firewall issue.
Soon, Chloe and the manager emerged.
The manager announced loudly, “Everyone, stop. Our honorable young miss is here for a visit. We’re colleagues
now.”
Chloe smiled politely. “Hello, everyone. I’m new here. Please forgive me if I make any mistakes.”
The employees were overly enthusiastic.
The team leader stood up, fawning.“Of course. We’re thrilled to have such a beautiful lady on our team.”
Alice remained impassive, focused on her computer as if it had nothing to do with her.

“We’re working on it. We hired a new engineer, and we hope to resolve it soon.”
The team leader looked at Alice with disdain.“Hey, newbie, greet her and explain your plan.”
Alice looked up impassively. “I don’t have a plan.”
“Hey, what’s your attitude? Stand up! You hear me?”
Alice stood abruptly, her chair scraping back.
The team leader was startled. “You’re new here. Are you trying to get fired? She’s someone you can’t afford to offend!”
Alice sneered.“What makes her deserve the respect?”
“If not her, you think you deserve it?”
Chloe intervened hurriedly. “Let’s be nice colleagues. No fights for me.”
The team leader immediately flattered her.“You’re right.”
Alice went to the restroom, wanting to avoid Chloe.
Chloe stood at the door when Alice was washing her hands, smug.“I didn’t expect to see you here.”
Alice ignored her.
Chloe persisted.“Alice, don’t be angry. Luke asked me to supervise the firewall project. Noah knows about it too.”
Alice’s sudden appearance could mean she regretted leaving and was trying to return.
It made Chloe worried.
Alice shook her hands, splashing water onto Chloe’s dress.
Chloe was furious. “What was that? Do you know how expensive this dress is?”
Alice laughed. “Good to know you remember the price. Hopefully, you won’t expose yourself. You’ll go back to your original life. This dress is probably more than you’ll ever earn in your life in that case.”
Chloe felt humiliated, glaring at Alice’s back.
One day, she would crush Alice.
When she sat back at her desk, the team leader threw a stack of documents at Alice.

Alice placed the documents aside and continued testing the software without comment.
The team leader wanted to yell again, but Chloe appeared and diverted his attention.
Alice’s colleague whispered, “The team leader is so attentive. Does he like her?”
“She would never go for that loser. He abuses his power.”
“Be careful, little girl. If there’s a company dinner, don’t drink.”
Alice smiled. “I understand. Thanks for the warning.”
She wouldn’t be attending any company dinners.
At the end of the day, Chloe came and announced, “It’s my first day. I’d like to treat everyone to dinner.”
Everyone agreed.
Alice, having almost finished her tests, packed up to leave.
Chloe looked at her and said, “I’ll give you a ride.”
“No thanks. Have fun.”
Alice left without a second glance.
Chloe’s pride was hurt, but she pretended to be generous. “I know her. Her personality hasn’t changed.”

Chloe smiled without replying.
She and the team went out to the restaurant, where Noah and Luke were waiting.
“Noah, Luke, what are you doing here?”
Noah looked around anxiously. He said to Chloe, “Where’s Alice? Why isn’t she here?”
