Alice gripped the edge of the table.“Let go of me!”
Jack stepped in front of Noah.“If you want to cancel the deal, you can leave at any time. Alice isn’t your pet. She has the right to choose.”
Noah had no other choice but to agree.
They went to the restaurant.
Noah looked at Jack. “Doctor Wilson, I didn’t expect you to have so many hobbies beyond your profession.”
Jack replied in a cool tone, “My family would never stop me from developing hobbies for their sake.”
Alice smirked. She heard Jack’s subtle irony on Noah.
Noah asked as if nothing happened, “What do your family do for a living, Doctor Wilson?”
Alice became alert.“Why are you asking? His parent’s work has nothing to do with this.”
“I’m just curious.”
Noah remained wary of Jack.
On the way here, Noah realized Jack was behind everything.
If Alice hadn’t solved the firewall issue, the contract deal would have been canceled.
Jack leaned back, putting one hand on the table. His rolled–up sleeve revealed part of his wrist.
He answered slowly, “My family owns a small scale of business.”
Andrew choked on his drink.
What did he say?
If Jack’s family business was small, then everyone else’s was microscopic.
Alice realized she knew nothing about Jack.
Jack said he had been traveling for work, but she knew nothing about it.
Their connection was fragile.
Noah pressed on.“Even a small scale of business would require a company. What’s your company’s name?”
Andrew tried to smooth things over.“Mr. Welch, you’re interrogating him. You’re so thorough.”
“Doctor Wilson took my sister away. As her brother, I have a right to know. Don’t you think so, Doctor Wilson?”
Alice felt uncomfortable. “He’s just a friend. Your questions are making things awkward. Have you considered my feelings?”
Noah calmed down.“Fine. If you’re unhappy, I won’t ask.”
Alice lost her appetite.
She glanced at Jack. She knew he disliked being interrogated.
Seeing how frustrated Alice was, Jack texted her, “Just eat.”
Surprised, Alice looked up.

She lowered her head and replied, “I didn’t expect Noah to ask. I’m sorry.”
“I’m not angry.”
Alice relaxed a bit. She was glad Jack wasn’t angry.
The atmosphere also got more relaxing.
Alice went to the restroom, feeling conflicted.
She knew nothing about Jack.
Jack leaned against the wall outside the restroom, scrolling through his phone.
His profile was partially hidden in shadow.
Alice approached.“I didn’t expect you to be back.”
“I finished my work.”
Jack put down his phone and gazed at her. “Why were you at Noah’s company? You didn’t mention it.”
“I was part of the project before. The firewall was my responsibility. His secretary Mike called me for help. Mike had been kind to me, so I didn’t want to see him bothered.*
She helped for Mike’s sake.
Walking beside Jack and seeing his shadow, Alice felt her mood lift.
They came back to the private room together.
Noah was agitated seeing Alice’s smile.
She used to smile at him like that. But now, she didn’t bother to argue with him.
Noah raised a glass and walked towards Jack.“Let’s make a toast.”
Jack’s expression was cold.“I wish Alice’s new game become a huge hit.”
“Exactly. Alice has shares in the Welch Group. She’ll get dividends.”
Alice found it ironic.
She indeed had some shares.
But in her previous life, those shares were used to appease Chloe.
In this life, she didn’t care about the shares at all. They had nothing to do with her.
Andrew interrupted.“Jack’s also a successful businessman. He has invested in several companies. He’ll get
dividends too.”
How did the Welch family dare to look down on Jack?
Noah drank the wine and changed the subject. “Mr. Wilson, are you seeing anyone?”
Jack’s fingers tightened around his wine glass. He seemed hesitant.
Andrew answered quickly. “Of course, he is.”
Alice failed to hold her fork. It dropped to the ground.
Alice quickly bent to pick up the fork with a red face. Her heart raced.

Jack, seemingly resolved, said, “We’re getting to know each other.”
Alice felt a buzzing in her ears. It silenced other sounds.

Noah continued, “I know many eligible young ladies. They are beautiful and around your age. Would you like to meet some, Doctor Wilson?”
Alice’s lashes fluttered. “It’s not necessary.”
Noah was surprised. He thought it was necessary.
He didn’t want Alice to have a relationship with Jack.
If Jack was after money, Noah knew how to deal with him.
Noah said pointedly, “Fine. I will obey your wish. But as for your future husband, you need a reliable man from a good family. I will make sure of that.”
Alice remembered Chloe’s accusations about her seducing Garrett.
What had Noah said then? He said she was shameless and ambitious.
Alice replied coldly, “Mr. Welch, have you forgotten I’ve cut ties with you?”
Noah’s face fell. “Alice, you can’t embarrass me in front of outsiders. Family secrets should be kept private. Don’t you understand?”
