Chapter 88
Alice replied in a cold tone, “No.”
She didn’t want to compromise.
She wouldn’t return to Landing Team to experience that life again.
Luke couldn’t hold himself still. He looked pale, unable to speak.
Noah was right.
Luke had chances to make amends, but he didn’t seize them.
Alice entered the neighborhood. Instead of going upstairs, she took a walk around.
She thought of the past injustices she had suffered on the team. The revenge felt sweet.
She wouldn’t compete in the final.
In her previous life, Luke stole her chance to win and gave it to Chloe. This time, she would destroy his victory.
Looking up at the sky, Alice vowed never to repeat the past.
“Beauty, are you feeling down?”
A middle–aged man approached Alice with a leer.“Come to my place for a drink.”
“No.”
Alice refused with a wary face. She quickly walked towards a crowded area.
“Don’t go, sweetheart. I know where you live. You’re being kept by those two men, right? I’ll pay you double what they do.”
Alice quickened her pace and ran. It surprised her to see a pervert on a simple walk.
A hand suddenly grabbed her. She screamed.
“Alice!”
Jack pulled her into his arms. “What’s wrong?”
Alice opened her eyes and saw Jack.
She looked back down the path. It was dark, and the pervert was gone.
She said calmly, “That man harassed me.”
“Where?”
“Over there, but he didn’t follow us.” He’d probably been scared off by Jack.
That man probably got scared after seeing Jack.
Jack saw her pale face.“I told you not to come down alone.”
“How was I supposed to foresee my bad luck?”
Alice realized she was in his arms. She awkwardly stepped back.
Jack retracted his hand.“Should we call the police?”
“Okay.”

An elderly woman came and said, “That path has blind spots. The police received reports before, but no one was ever caught. Young lady, don’t walk alone at night in quiet areas. It’s dangerous.”
Alice nodded. She hadn’t expected this.
A cold glint flashed in Jack’s eyes, but he soon turned normal “Let’s go
back.”
Alice didn’t want to stay outside. She felt being watched.
Back in the apartment, the scenes replayed in her mind.
“Drink some warm water.”
A pair of hands with long fingers appeared in her sight. She took the glass.“Thank you.”
Seeing her pale face, Jack said gently, “I’ll investigate the thing. He must have left a trace. There’s no such thing as a blind spot.”
Since Alice would continue living here, the threat had to be eliminated.
Alice looked up.“You mean hacking into the security system?”
“Girl, don’t bring TV dramas into reality. It’s illegal.”
Jack said seriously, “All you need now is rest.”
Alice hesitated. “But he knows where I live, and he knows about you.”
She didn’t mention the man saying she was being kept.
It wasn’t true anyway.
Jack’s face darkened. He hadn’t expected that man to be so bold.
He said calmly, “Stay here tonight.”
Alice nodded. “I’ll sleep on the sofa.”
Jack frowned. “You can sleep in my room. I’ll sleep on the sofa.”
Sleep in his room?
Her heart skipped a beat.“Isn’t Andrew coming back?”
The apartment had two bedrooms. There was no extra room.
“His room is like a pigsty. Don’t even try.”
Alice gave up.“I can sleep on the sofa. It’s fine.”
“Go sleep in my room. I have things to do tonight. I might not sleep.”
His expression was slightly unnatural, but he hid it well.
Alice went to get pajamas in the next room. Jack waited at the door.
Alice came out of the room and saw him standing at the door. She felt safe.
She went into his bedroom. It was simple and clean.
He brought a new blanket. “You can use this.”

He put down the blanket and walked to the door. It was improper for him to stay longer alone with Alice.
She glanced at the door.
Jack stood there, facing her from one side. Under the living room light, his shadow looked long
His gaze was deep. “Have a good sleep. Call me if you need.”
He closed the door for Alice.
Alice stood still. It was Jack’s bedroom with just a few personal belongings.
Alice looked around. He kept personal hygiene better than other messy men she’d heard about.
After showering, she lay in bed, noticing his scent on the bedding.
She had a subtle, indescribable feeling.
It smelled like him.
It was like he was holding her. Her face flushed.
She expected insomnia but fell asleep quickly.
She felt safe.
Jack went to his study.
He opened the laptop and switched the system. He said in a cold tone, “Still no news on the pervert?
“I have found him. He lives in our building.”
Andrew continued, “The creep steals lingerie and has a telescope on his balcony!”
Jack’s face turned dark.“Which floor?”
“I sent you the location. Kick his ass for me!”
Jack turned off his computer. He sent a message and went to the bedroom.
He stood for a moment before leaving the apartment.
A line of men in black suits stood at the entrance. They all wore white gloves, baseball caps, and masks.
They stood silently.
Jack’s features were unfathomable in the shadows. They took the elevator upstairs. His outlined look carried no
expression.
One of the men used an electronic keycard to open the door.
Jack walked in and heard moans from the study.
He found the middle–aged man watching pornography.
When the video reached the climax, the man saw the people who had broken in. Startled, the man cried
out, “Who… who are you?”
Jack turned around and raised his hand.
His men entered the room and closed the door.
Jack stood on the balcony, looking at the stars. His lips pursed, revealing a cold smile.
