After an indeterminate amount of time, Lenora woke up in complete darkness. The first thing she noticed was the smell of disinfectant.
Lenora opened her eyes, looked around, and realized she was in a hospital room.
“Lenora, are you awake? How are you feeling?” Aman’s voice entered her ear.
Upon opening her eyes. Lenora was met with the handsome and dashing face of Zachary.
Subconsciously, she rested her hand on her own abdomen.
“I’m fine.” She glanced out the window, noticing that it was already dark outside.
Just then, her stomach grumbled.
“Are you hungry? Shall I have some food sent over?” suggested Zachary.
“I’m afraid it’ll be too slow. I’m really hungry now, can you go buy something for me?” Lenora looked up at him.
For the first time, Zachary saw Lenora with such a well–behaved and gentle expression. Subconsciously, he nodded. “All right, I’ll go buy it for you. Be careful in the ward by yourself. If you need anything, call the nurse. Don’t get out of bed on your own.”
Lenora nodded.
After Zachary left, Lenora rang the bell, and a nurse quickly arrived. “Do you need anything? Are you feeling any discomfort?”
“I want to know about my child…” said Lenora.
“Rest assured, your child is fine. However, your fetus is currently unstable, and you’ve sprained your ankle. I would advise you to stay in bed and avoid walking around for the next few days.”
Upon hearing the answer she desired, Lenora finally breathed a sigh of relief. “All right, thank
you.”
“You’re welcome. Due to your pregnancy, we didn’t prescribe any oral medication for you. Instead, we’ve given you an external treatment to apply to your sprained ankle. Just make sure to change it on time. You should be able to leave the hospital tomorrow.”
“All right, thank you.”

He bought the meal in the hospital cafeteria. It was a balanced combination of one meat dish, one vegetable dish, a bowl of soup, and a serving of rice, topped off with a pear and a bottle of milk.
Lenora opened her meal box and started eating “Why don’t you go home first? The nurse is here. You can come and pick me up when I’m discharged tomorrow. If you’re busy, just send the driver.”
“I’ll
stay here with you. It’s not convenient for you to be alone with your leg injured. I’ve already asked the driver to bring some fresh clothes,” answered Zachary.
A warmth spread through Lenora’s heart. “All right.”
Suddenly, Zachary’s phone started to ring.
He pulled out his phone from his pocket, glanced at the screen, and answered the call as he walked away. “Hello, Susanna?”
Upon hearing those two words, Lenora blinked, and she listened carefully.
Unfortunately, he walked too far away for her to hear anything.
After a moment, Zachary returned, apologizing, Lenora, I’m sorry. Susanna is not doing well. I must go to her now. I’ve called the driver to bring Miranda here. I’ll come to pick you up and take you home tomorrow.”
Before Lenora could respond, Zachary quickly walked out of the sickroom.
Watching his anxious figure, Lenora let out a bitter smile.
In the end, the driver still brought the housekeeper over, who spent the night in the hospital with Lenora.
Early the next morning, after Lenora had her medicine changed, the driver came to take her home.
With Miranda’s help, Lenora, leaning on her crutch, made her way to the car.
There was only the driver in the car.
Zachary didn’t come.
Lenora lowered her head, pursing her lips.

However, Zachary simply wasn’t willing to expend even that bit of effort on her.
Lenora’s leg was injured, so naturally, she couldn’t go to the office. She had Milly bring her laptop home so she could work from there, handling some of the daily tasks with ease.
To avoid the hassle of going up and down the stairs, she stayed in her second–floor bedroom without ever stepping out.
Her meals were also brought to her by the housekeeper.
At that moment, Lenora was busy with her work. Hearing the door open, she thought it was. the housekeeper bringing food, and casually said. “Just leave it on the table. I’ll eat in a bit.”
“Let’s eat first before you get back to work. You can spare a little time,” Zachary said.
Lenora looked up and saw that it was Zachary who had come to bring her food. “You’re off work.”
“Mm–hmm.” Lenora closed her laptop.
Zachary promptly placed the meal on the bedside table in front of her and then went downstairs to eat.
After she finished eating, he came up to collect the bowls and fork for Lenora.
When Zachary came back up, he had an extra bag in his hand, filled with Lenora’s medicine..
That included not only the medicine just prescribed by the hospital, but also the medication previously taken by Lenora for “digestive discomfort“.
As Lenora watched Zachary take out each medicine one by one, a jolt went through her heart as her fingers tightly clutched the corner of her clothes.
Zachary held up two unmarked white bottles, giving them a little shake. “These are the gastrointestinal medicines you prescribed from the hospital, but what’s with this packaging?”
Lenora nervously explained, “I changed it myself. The boxes were inconvenient, and I may be on a business trip next week, so I switched to bottles.”
That reason was somewhat acceptable, so Zachary didn’t press further. “Your foot may not heal by the end of the week. If it’s not absolutely necessary, let someone else go.”
“Mhm,” Lenora responded, quietly letting out a sigh of relief.

He glanced again at the other medicines in the bag, took them out, and asked, “Yesterday, the hospital only prescribed medicines that are applied externally. Didn’t they give any oral anti- inflammatory drugs or something like blood circulation–promoting medicines?”
Lenora shook her head and said, “I’ve been having some stomach issues recently. The doctor said the medication may irritate my stomach, so he didn’t prescribe any.”

. Zachary slightly furrowed his brows, feeling that something
was amiss, yet he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
“I’m here to change your dressing.” Zachary said, walking over with a roll of gauze and some medicine He sat down by the bed and lifted Lenora’s blanket.
“How about asking Miranda to change it for me?” suggested Lenora.

“Should I invite her up then?”
Lenora pursed her lips, but said nothing.
Zachary knew that whenever she acted like that, Lenora’s words didn’t match her true feelings.
He firmly held her injured foot in his large hand His hand was so warm that the heat made her want to pull away.
He carefully removed the bandage, revealing a swollen ankle joint and the ointment on it that had not been fully absorbed.
Zachary first used an alcohol wipe to remove the excess ointment, revealing the swollen joint in its original state. It was white, bulging, and elevated, resembling a puffed–up loaf of bread.
Zachary picked up a cotton swab again, applying a fresh layer of ointment on the ankle, then wrapped it up with gauze and finally tied a knot
“All right.” Zachary carefully tucked the blanket around Lenora again.
