Zachary was rendered speechless, absolutely certain that she was getting on his nerves on purpose.
Zachary took a deep breath, calmly stating. “Since you’ve already interrupted me, just get on with it!”
Lenora replied, “Zachary, I called to apologize. I’m sorry, I spoke too harshly yesterday. I shouldn’t have treated you that way… An unexpected incident occurred yesterday, and I was just too angry. I’m sorry…

Just as success was within grasp, she was thrown back to square one. At that moment, Lenora truly wanted to strangle Susanna, and her irritation toward Zachary grew.

Lenora paused for a moment, then let out a cold huff. “Zachary, you really are clever!”

In reality, her performance was quite convincing, so much so that he almost believed it.
He pondered for a moment, considering that if Lenora knew she wasn’t Fernando’s daughter, her reaction wouldn’t have been so calm, and she certainly wouldn’t have been in the mood to seek him out to apologize.
Listening to his laughter, the budding affection Lenora had just started to feel for him dwindled once again. “Where did I give myself away? Or, is it because you let Susanna go not for my sake, and I just assumed too much?”
Zachary smiled slightly. “You don’t have to try and bait me. I’m not going to tell you.”
