Chapter 214 The Price of a Kiss
“So ma’am doesn’t plan on taking responsibility?”
Ma’am?
She did call Nolan “kid” last night.
But the problem was, in this lifetime, Nolan was actually older than her.
That sudden “ma’am” made Eliza’s heart skip a beat.
“Nolan! Quit joking around!”
“I’m not joking.”
Nolan leaned close to her ear. “And I’m not someone who likes to joke.”
Suddenly, Eliza felt a light bite on her earlobe.
It wasn’t too rough or too gentle–just enough to send a tingling sensation all through her body.
In an instant, she lost all strength to resist, collapsing straight into Nolan’s arms.
“Last night you could use the excuse of being drunk, but today… you can’t run anymore.”
Nolan pinned her beneath him.
Eliza’s face turned bright red, a warm blush rising beneath her pale skin.
She bit her lip. Just seeing that look on her was enough to make a fire ignite in Nolan’s gut.
She was just like this last night.
The memory made the air between them feel even heavier.
“So… do you remember now?”
Staring at Nolan, Eliza whispered, “I remember…”
“Good.”
Nolan let her go.
The room fell silent.
Eliza cleared her throat. “Last night I drank too much. That was my fault… Don’t be mad, I…”
Her thoughts were a mess. She didn’t even know what she was trying to say.
I mean… they’d already kissed.

She couldn’t just walk away from that, right?
Then again, they were both adults.
It was just a kiss…. It’s not like they did anything else.
So maybe it wasn’t a big deal?
That thought kept spinning around in her head.
“You what?”
Nolan’s eyes never left her.
Eliza stared at the floor. “Can you… pretend nothing happened?”
“What do you
think?”

The moment she heard that clearly impossible response, she ducked her head back down. “Then what do you want? I’ll cooperate with whatever I can do.”
Her eyes were full of resolve, like she’d made up her mind to make it up to him.
After all, it was her fault.
She couldn’t just let Nolan take the fall for this.
“Anything?”
“As long as I can do it, I’ll say yes. I won’t go back on my word.”
“Alright.”
Nolan locked eyes with her. “I want you.”
Just one sentence–and Eliza’s heart skipped a beat.
“Eliza, listen to me. I want you.”
“You…”
She never thought he’d actually say that.
Just then, Eliza’s phone rang.
Her assistant was calling.
Eliza was about to take the opportunity to get out of the room, but Nolan grabbed her wrist. “I want you. Yes or no?”
“I… I need to take this call first.”
Her eyes begged him to let her go.

Seeing her hesitate, a brief flicker of disappointment crossed Nolan’s face.
A moment later, he let go.

Eliza rushed out and picked up.
“Ma’am, Soren’s people have already arrived. Are you really not coming? The VP went to greet them, but I don’t think Soren looked too happy.”
Eliza’s mind was still stuck on Nolan.
She had no bandwidth to deal with Soren.
Everything in her head was a mess.
She mumbled, “I’ll be there soon. See if Søren can wait a little longer–I’ll meet him myself.”
“Okay.”
The call ended.
Eliza looked toward the bedroom, unsure of what to do next.
Damn it.
Drinking really messes everything up.
She was never drinking again.
She took a deep breath, collected herself, and walked back in.
“Nolan, I’ve made up my mind.”
But before she could say anything more, Nolan cut her off. “I don’t want to hear it right now.”
She froze.
You don’t want to hear it?
He was the one pressing her for an answer earlier–now he didn’t want to hear it?
What did that mean?
“Tell me when you’ve figured things out.”
With that, Nolan walked out of the room.
He paused and added, “Don’t forget to drink the soup.”
As Eliza watched his back disappear from view, her heart sank.
Nolan… probably really wanted an answer.

They’d both been abandoned by the ones they loved most.
But Nolan… looked like he’d suffered even more than she had.
