Life like this… wasn’t bad at all.
Eliza smiled, her expression tinged with genuine sweetness.

As expected, the driver was already waiting outside–but this time, instead of the usual luxury car, a more modest, low–key vehicle had been sent.
Nolan had probably given specific instructions.
That thought made Eliza feel even warmer inside.
Maybe dating really is pretty great.
Halbert arrived early and took his seat in the classroom. Most of the girls only dared to admire him from a distance.
Word had it Halbert was being personally groomed by Tristan, the head of the Sue family, and it showed- in the way he walked, spoke, and carried himself.
As Eliza stepped into the classroom, the students naturally parted to make way for her.
No one said anything directly, but it was obvious to everyone: Halbert’s presence at the university was no coincidence. It had to be connected to the real Miss Cassandra of the Sue family.
And since he always sat next to Eliza, she had to be that Miss Cassandra.
“Eliza, are you really not the Sue family’s Miss Cassandra?”
“Yeah, if you weren’t, why would Halbert transfer schools just to be here?”
Claire University was the dream school for many, but the
school Halbert transferred from was even more
prestigious. As a junior already studying overseas, there had been no logical reason for him to return to Westbrook–unless it was for Eliza.
Eliza didn’t respond. She quietly returned to her seat.
Seeing her stay silent, the girls who had asked began to bristle.
“Ugh, what’s with the attitude? She’s probably not even the real Miss Cassandra.”
“Yeah, that’s why she won’t answer. She knows she’s a fake.”
They returned to their seats, muttering.
“What’s going on with Naomi anyway?”
“You mean the one who faked being the Sue family heiress? Last I heard, the Rivers family’s gone bankrupt. She’s probably in the middle of her withdrawal paperwork now.”
“Withdrawn? That bad?”
“Of course. With her grades? I heard she couldn’t even get into a tier–one school.”
The gossip at the back of the room grew louder.

They’d long disliked Naomi. If it hadn’t been for her pretending to be the Sue family’s daughter, none of them would have bothered to be friendly.
“You seem awfully proud of what you’ve done.”
Halbert’s voice cut in coldly.
Eliza frowned. “Do you hate me that much?”
“I wouldn’t say hate,” Halbert replied calmly.
But in truth, if Eliza weren’t the Sue family’s daughter, she wouldn’t even be worth talking to.
“I don’t want to waste my time on you,” he added, tone clipped. “If you’re not going to accept your place as the Sue family’s Miss Cassandra, then go talk to Tristan yourself. If he agrees, you can stop wasting everyone’s time with your act.”
Eliza had known Halbert didn’t like her, but she hadn’t realized the extent of his hostility.
“Fine. I’ll go back,” she said, without hesitation.
That, Halbert had expected.
Of course, he thought. Who would give up the chance to be the Sue family’s heiress?
Eliza was just putting on a show.
“I’ll have the ticket arranged. You’ll leave tomorrow morning.”
Eliza laughed. “You misunderstood me.”
“I said I agreed to go back, but when I go is up to me. You don’t get to decide that.”
Halbert’s brow furrowed. “What did you just say?”
“I think I was perfectly clear. You’re not deaf, are you?”
Eliza looked him straight in the eye. “I don’t like anyone trying to control me. And as for the Sue family- screw them.”
That last line struck a nerve.
Halbert’s expression didn’t change, but his eyes darkened.
No one had ever dared speak about the Sue family that way in front of him.
“Eliza, I’ve tolerated you because you share our blood. That doesn’t mean I won’t act. Don’t assume I have a good temper.”
He wasn’t like his brothers. He was Tristan’s chosen successor–trained from childhood to be ruthless.
If Eliza didn’t listen, he had a hundred ways to make her obedient.
“I don’t have a good temper either,” Eliza replied evenly. “If you lay a finger on me, I’ll fight back.”
She wasn’t remotely intimidated.

To him, her business was a small–time operation. One flick of the Sue family’s hand, and it would collapse in an instant.
